Taarabt Wage Concerns?

TAARABT WANTS RAISE
Do QPR have the means?

What's been rumored for a month now has come to fruition; Adel Taarabt has delivered an ultimatum to the QPR board of directors and manager Verde. He wants a raise. Currently making 25 000 pounds per week, Taarabt has stated that if QPR can't meet his demand of 35 000 per week, he is going to request a transfer.

"It's an unfortunate situation to happen in the midst of a season, but it is a living and these players have the right to plead their case for a promotion or raise," commented a clearly annoyed manager Verde.

Having already doled out most of their wage budget to Dedé, QPR have reportedly offered Taarabt a raise to 30 100 pounds per week.

Let's hope, for the sake of QPR's midfield, that Taarabt likes what he sees on the offer.

QPR Draw With Everton
Stay tied with Toffees in league table
Oct. 21st/2012

In what was a rather flat match by both sides at Loftus Road on Saturday, mid-table sides Everton and QPR met up.

Everton dominated the first half, and it was only a man-of-the-match-garnering performance from QPR keeper Julio Cesar which kept the score tied nil-nil through 45 minutes.

QPR super sub Shaun Wright-Phillips scored in the 53rd minute, completely against the run of play, to put the hosts up 1-0.

Ryan Barkley tied the match for Everton within five minutes as he finished off a pretty passing play with Steven Pienaar.

The final half hour was largely spent in the QPR half, and Everton probably deserved three points.

"It definitely wasn't our best performance, and the last few matches definitely haven't been our best run of form, but we're still getting points, which is better than last year. I feel we can pick up three points next match against Southampton, and then we'll see what happens after that," said a very guarded QPR manager post-game.

The draw is a missed opportunity for both teams, who had a chance to move up into the upper reaches of the league table with a victory.

QPR host Southampton in a midweek clash on Wednesday, while Everton visit an upstart Reading side which sits mid-table alongside them.

QPR 2, Southampton 1

Granero Shines
While rest of team cast in shadow
Oct. 24th/'12
Coming into this match, QPR were the clear favorites. Yet again, they found a way to put themselves behind the eight ball, and yet again, managed to be outplayed for 90 minutes yet still weasel their way to a result.

The first half saw most of the possession with Southampton in QPR's half, yet no goals, mostly due to Julio Cesar's spectacular performance in the QPR goal.

Adam Lallana got the visitors deservedly on the scoreboard in the 55th minute, when he blasted a powerful header seemingly straight through the hands of Julio Cesar, and the Loftus Road crowd inhaled with the sour taste of another coming poor result in their mouths.

Esteban Granero drew the hosts level in the 60th minute, when he made a spectacular run, 360'd around Nathaniel Clyne, and curved a shot right inside the far post, around a diving Alvarez, to tie the match at 1.

Southampton pressed in the final half hour, but couldn't score.

Julio Cesar made a spectacular save in tight on Rickie Lambert in the 87th minute, denying him a sure goal with an excellent diving parry.

Super sub Shaun Wright-Phillips came on in the 91st minute for QPR, and he made an immediate impact, running onto a long pass from Stephane M'Bia, he sprinted past the speedy Nathaniel Clyne and crossed a ball into the middle, where Granero controlled the ball, spun, and beat Alvarez with an absolute cracker into the top corner of the goal.

A crazy finish, and yet again, QPR manage to snag more points than they should.

Next up for the Loftus Road boys is a difficult match away at the Emirates Stadium against an in-form Arsenal, which will be QPR's third match in six days.

"It's a little bit crazy, the schedule they've given us, but we're making the best of it, even today, sure the boys gave the supporters a couple heart attack, but hey, we got the three points, and at the end of the day, that's the goal before every match," beamed an ecstatic, almost mirthful manager Verde post-game.

Arsenal 2, QPR 1

Gunners Pull It Out
Wenger sent off, Arsenal manager-less for second half
Oct. 27th/'12

In what was an unbelievably crazy match, QPR lost 2-1 at the Emirates Stadium against Arsenal, with Santi Cazorla's 89th minute goal being the difference.

The game started off well for the visitors from across town, as Samba Diakité found the back of the net on a powerful strike from well outside the 18-yard box. 8 minutes in, and QPR had a shock 1-nil lead.

Arsenal would pull even within five minutes however, as in the 13th minute, Lukas Podolski was fed a through ball from Santi Cazorla, and Podolski curled a shot past Julio Cesar to tie the match at 1.

The teams went into halftime with the score at 1-1, when an awkward moment took place.

As he was walking down the tunnel, Arsene Wenger apparently heard someone call him a foul name in french. Wenger, in response, shoved the nearest QPR coach, which happened to be manager Verde. Verde reportedly fell down the remaining steps of the tunnel, and quickly got up to take an awkward swing at Wenger (which missed).

Post-game, Wenger apologized, saying Verde probably wasn't the one who insulted him.

The match was back-and-forth for most of the 2nd half, with Junior Hoilett and Djibril Cissé both missing glorious opportunities for QPR while Lukas Podolski struck the crossbar with a long-range effort in the 71st minute for the Gunners.

Santi Cazorla put the hosts up for good in the 89th minute on a fantastic free kick, which nicked off the post before hitting the back of the net past a helpless Julio César to put the Gunners in the lead for good.

"I felt that the incident at halftime really overshadowed the game, I mean I was assaulted....but regardless, the match was a bit of a disappointment because we had a lead early, and could've easily gotten a point from this match, maybe even three with a little luck. Still, Arsenal sit at the top of the table right now and they're obviously a world-class club, so there's no shame in bowing out to them late in a match. The boys played well, and the marathon of matches here is almost over, we've just got one more at the Britannia Stadium against Stoke in three days' time, and then we'll get five days off. The boys need some rest."

(Wins-Draws-Losses-Points)
Arsenal (7-1-1-22), 1st place
QPR (4-3-3-15), 8th place

I think it was Verde who called Wenger something nasty and Wenger probably deserved it.

Nice reads. I'm enjoying your dynasty.

End of October/Stoke Embarrassment

QPR Humiliated
Bottom-table Stoke put the boots to QPR

Playing their fourth match in ten days, QPR were utterly run over at the Britannia Stadium by Stoke on Wednesday in a mid-week EPL clash.

The visitors actually pushed the tempo early, and Djibril Cissé nearly put the Londoners up in the 8th minute when his headed effort skimmed the top of the crossbar.

On Stoke's first foray into the QPR half, defender Ryan Shawcross headed home a freekick in the 15th minute, and Stoke had an unexpected early lead.

Jonathan Walters doubled The Potters' lead in the 40th minute when he scored his third goal of the campaign with an absolute rocket from 25 yards out.

QPR pressed in the 2nd half, and Asmir Begovic was forced to make three impressive saves in the span of about 7 minutes early in half #2.

With tons of possession and chances yet still down two goals late, QPR started to show their frustration, and Stephane M'Bia got yellow-carded for a challenge in the area on Peter Crouch. Charlie Adam stepped up to the spot, and Julio Cesar guessed the wrong way. 83rd minute, 3-nil Stoke.

M'Bia was at fault again in the 93rd minute, when he chopped Adam's legs from under him with clear malicious intent.

M'Bia was sent off, threw a water bottle at his manager, and threw a tantrum in the tunnel.

Adam made no mistake, and it was 4-nil.

"Yeah, the match was an embarrassment. I'm going to have a chat with the lads, because four points from twelve simply isn't going to get us where we want to be this campaign. This coming month we've got Reading, United, and Sunderland. I think we can take 6 points, maybe more. We're sitting mid-table, which isn't horrible, but I think this club can really make the jump to elite status this season, we just have to prove it to others," said a downcast manager Verde postgame.

QPR 5, Reading 2

Historic start propels QPR to victory
Four goals in seven minutes leads Loftus Road boys to three points

Things got going in a hurry at Loftus Road on Sunday, as Adel Taarabt opened up the scoring less than 100 seconds into the match.

Taarabt received a through ball from Junior Hoilett, faked out Reading defender Adrian Mariappa, and calmly finished into the bottom-right corner of the Reading goal to put QPR up 1-0 inside two minutes.

Shaun Wright-Phillips would double the lead two minutes later when he finished off a brilliant lob pass from Djibril Cissé into a gaping Reading goal.

Cissé would score himself the very next minute, pacing his way through the Reading back four before chipping the ball over top of Federici to make it 3-nil to the hosts inside 5 minutes.

Cissé then added his 2nd of the afternoon two minutes later, in the 7th minute. He received a great through ball from Junior Hoilett, cut wide to the left of the Reading centrebacks, and fired a low shot which Federici probably should have stopped. However the Reading keeper caught a divot in the grass, and fell, allowing Cissé's long-range effort to trickle over the line and make it 4-nil to the hosts inside 8 minutes.

After ten minutes, however, the game more or less belonged to Reading.

Pavel Pogrebnyak struck the goalpost on a penalty shot in the 27th minute, which would have cut the lead to 4-1.

He made up for it, somewhat, five minutes later, when he unleashed a cannon of a shot from 25 yards out which found the twine of the net, and Reading were on the board.

The score was 4-1 at halftime, though Loftus Road was quiet and uneasy after the last half hour of the first half had been played almost entirely in the QPR end.

Pogrebnyak scored his second of the match in the 76th minute off of a corner, when he jumped seemingly over top of QPR fill-in centreback Ryan Nelsen and headed home a powerful strike to make it 4-2.

Ten minutes later, QPR substitute Bobby Zamora put the match out of reach when he made a great run, slipped the ball past a sliding Mariappa, and then rocketed a shot past Federici to bring the scoreline to its ending point; 5-2 QPR.

"The lads had an unbelievable start, we were all raring to go, and we obviously wanted to prove to ourselves and our fans that we are a better side than the one that lost 4-0 at the Britannia last week. This is exciting, and we're very excited with the direction we're headed in," beamed an ecstatic Shaun Wright-Phillips post-game.

The four goals in seven minutes set an EPL record for the following:
- Quickest team to score three goals
- Quickest team to score four goals
- Quickest goal in a match

I'm fairly satisfied with where the club is right now. 7th is respectable, and it's not as though we had any illusions coming into the season about being a top three team or anything. My goal is that 5th place spot, to the Europa League. Where Newcastle currently sit. I could potentially sit four points behind them if they win their game in hand. Four points is not a lot, and I think our form should steadily improve, as we've had some injuries and tough match scheduling recently. Here is what the rest of the month of November has in store for Q.P.R.:
November 24th - @ Manchester United (19 pts, 4th)
November 27th - @ Sunderland (8 pts, 18th)

The Man Utd game will obviously be extremely difficult to draw any points from, especially seeing their recent form (3-0 win away to Arsenal, 2-1 win away to Newcastle).

The Sunderland game is one that, in all honesty, if we want to seriously be a top 5-7 team in this league, we need to take all 3 points from. If we continue to drop points (and in some cases, lose embarrassingly) against lesser teams, we simply won't be able to stay close enough to the top of the table!
