16 year old Vasily Celina is ruled out through injury and in comes in another 16 year old, Jean Marc Hasler. A slight change as to how I'm doing the match result for this game. As my match depends on results, I will be doing it by events in the match.

World Cup 2002 Qualifiers:
Czech Republic v Bulgaria
Malta v Northern Ireland

3 Min:
A Maltese free-kick taken by Joe Brincat fizzles wide of the post. Malta 0-0 Northern Ireland.
18 Min:
A Pavel Nedved cross finds Marek Heinz in the box but a superb save by Bulgarian keeper Ivaylo Ivanov keeps it goalless.Czech Republic 0-0 Bulgaria.
40 Min: GOAL! Wesley Boyle crossed from the right wing and found Paul McKnight in space who slotted home. Malta 0-1 Northern Ireland.
44 Min:
A Vratislav Lokvenc pass finds Marek Heinz who puts his shot wide.
Czech Republic 0-0 Bulgaria.
45 Min: GOAL! McKnight turns provider for Owen Morrison who drove into the penalty area and shot past Justin Haber. Malta 0-2 Northern Ireland.
HALF TIME
57 Min: GOAL! A fightback on the cards? Chris Camilleri put a through ball into Joe Brincat who in turn, passed to Michael Galea who put the ball in the back of the net. Malta 1-2 Northern Ireland.
66 Min: DISALLOWED GOAL.
Michael Galea thought he had got an equaliser for Malta. However, Michael Mifsud was adjudged to be offside in the build-up. Malta 1-2 Northern Ireland.
67 Min: GOAL! Patrick Berger found Pavel Nedved who played a through ball into Marek Heinz who redeems himself after his first half miss and puts the Czechs ahead.
Czech Republic 1-0 Bulgaria
72 Min:
Northern Irish midfielder Jim Magilton puts Owen Morrison through on goal but a terrible miss keeps Malta in the game. Malta 1-2 Northern Ireland.
83 Min:
A Paul McKnight cross found Neil Lennon free in the area who hit the ball on the volley but was denied by a fine save from Justin Haber in the Malta goal. Malta 1-2 Northern Ireland.
87 Min: GOAL! A Milan Petkov run in to the box results in a penalty for Bulgaria as he tries going round Pavel Srnicek who brings him down. Krassimir Balakov doesn't miss from the spot.
Czech Republic 1-1 Bulgaria.

Haber - Okwonko, Bencini, Guc, Buhagiar - Brincat, Veselj, C. Camilleri - Mallia (Nwoko, 63), Mifsud (Sorrentino, 82), Galea

Unused Subs: Darmanin, Cremona, Bonnici, Holland, Mattocks

A game I really thought we would win turns out to be a loss instead. A late Bulgaria goal would have been lovely if we were winning. We finish the campaign in 4th place, so my aim has been completed, but it is massively disappointing.

Czech Republic 1-1 Bulgaria
Denmark 1-0 Iceland
Malta 1-2 Northern Ireland

A 4th place finish for Malta and as the table shows, we just conceded too many goals to have a chance.

Only change is at the back with Darren Debono replacing Djibriel Sylla with the defender being ruled out through injury.

Friendly: Malta 2-1 Armenia
Mifsud 35, Galea 58 - Shakhgeldyan 65

Haber - Forace, Okonkwo (Sixsmith, 58), Bencini, Buhagiar (Bonnici, 46) - Galea, Brincat, C. Camilleri (Hasler, 58) - Sorrentino, Mifsud, Nwoko

A relatively comfortable victory finishes off 2001 for us as Michael Galea stole the show. A cross by Richard Buhagiar found Galea in the box who in turn found Michael Mifsud who opened the scoring 10 minutes before half time. A superb individual effort by Galea who went past 3 Armenian players before slotting home to make it a 2 goal lead after 58 minutes. Armenia hit back just 7 minutes later however with a through ball by Armenian midfielder Hovane Haroutiounian put Armen Shakhgeldyan through on goal who volleyed home to make it 2-1 and that is how it finished.
