Bristol Rovers announce Pre-season friendlies

The pre-season matches for the 2013-14 season have been announced. Bristol Rovers will face newly promoted Championship side Conventry City, Xerez CD and AIK Fotboll.

Upcoming Friendly Fixtures

July 2013:

JUL 28 Bristol Rovers - Coventry City

August 2013:

AUG 1 Xerez CD - Bristol Rovers
AUG 5 Bristol Rovers - AIK Fotboll

I will be using these matches to try out the new players we have signed for the upcoming season. The Youth Squad prospects are expected to make debut as well. We'll see how things pan out.

Bristol Rovers will open up the 2013-14 Season
against Bradford City

That's right! We will kick off the new season at home against Bradford City. They finished in 3rd place last season, only 5 points behind us and won automatic promotion too. They are a strong team but we will be looking to start the season off with a win and take all three points at home.

Upcoming Matches in August

Bristol Rovers - Bradford City

Shrewsbury Town - Bristol Rovers

Round 1

York City - Bristol Rovers

Bristol Rovers finish winless Pre-season

Pre-season Friendlies Results

Bristol Rovers 3 - 4 Coventry City
Xerez CD 1 -1 Bristol Rovers
Bristol Rovers 1 - 2 AIK Fotboll

I wouldn't say this was a bad pre-season for us. We had solid performances from most of the squad. We had chances to score but couldn't convert. On the other hand, the new signings actually did pretty good. Full-back Jamie Reckord and the Youth Squad prospects have proved to be valuable assets for the team. We will have to work on finishing our chances and I believe some minor formation changes will help us to tighten up our defence line.

Bristol Rovers open season with resounding
victory over Bradford City

So, we are off to a good start. It was an evenly matched football game. Bradford City are a very capable team so we had to cut out all silly mistakes. Most of our passes and shots were spot on and we had a rock solid defence that day. Their star striker Nahki Wells did not see much playing time due to an early injury. Midfielder Jamie Paterson scored our first goal of the season from outside the box just before halftime. Bradford city tried to produce a second-half comeback but they could not find the equalizer despite creating several good scoring chances. Youngster Eliot Richards delivered the final blow with a goal in the dying minutes of the match.

Great job getting promoted, not an easy task in FIFA 13, of course now the tough part begins, trying to stay up as you build a squad towards another promotion.

Thanks a lot, mate. This is going to be a tough season, I can feel it already. The board wants a high finish this time but there is really no big money to strengthen the squad. I am doing what I can so far. We are aiming to build a young squad. Most of our budget is going towards Youth Development. I really hope the investment pays off at the end of the season.

Dramatic win sees Bristol Rovers reach Round 2 of Capital One Cup

So, first English Cup match of the season. Bristol Rovers go against York City, a team that sank without a trace to the lower reaches of the league table last season. Seems like an easy challenge, right? Well, unfortunately that was not the case. Youth squad prospect Pasquale Piredda scored a beautiful chip shot goal to open the scoring for Bristol Rovers. York City responded quickly and were level a few minutes later when Jason Walker coverted a header from the edge of the six-yard box. However that changed just before halftime as Piredda again managed to score a header. York City dominated most of the second half. A second equalizer seemed imminent and arrived around the 70th minute. The match quickly turned into a frustrating battle as both teams were trying to find a late killer goal. Fortunately for us that goal came in the 90th minute from a counter attack, sending us into next round.

Re: .::: UP THE GAS :::. Bristol Rovers FC - Road to the Premiership

Shrewsbury Town give Bristol Rovers first taste of defeat

A highly controversial penalty call helped Shrewsbury Town produce a win in the last 10 minutes of the match. To be honest this was a match that probably should have ended in a draw. It is early in the season and the refs are already making bad calls. Was it a handball, was it a foul? I guess we will never know. We need to put all this behind us for now and move on to Charlton Charlton Athletic next week.

Ouch...those calls can be very frustrating! Congrats for making it through to the second round of the Capital One Cup and best of luck against Charlton Athletic.

Who do you have in the second round of the Capital One Cup?
