Royal Rumble PPV Preview

MATCH CARD PREVIEW

WWE Championship (3 Stages of Hell Match):
Stage 1 = Extreme Rules Falls Count Anywhere; Stage 2 = Tables; Stage 3 = Steel Cage
David Degenerate {C} vs. Mack Wheeler

The PPV will surprisingly kick off with likely the most dangerous match of the night, an insane 2-out-of-3 falls bout with stipulations set for each "stage", designed to be the most difficult title defense of David Degenerate's reign! On the first Raw of this month, Raw GM Stephanie McMahon welcomed a private investigator who was looking into the vehicular attack on DMK back at October's PPV. He revealed that WWE champ David Degenerate was the man behind the wheel, and the "Dangerous Genius" admitted it, claiming to do it to "eliminate all competitors" based on advice from Mr. McMahon. Stephanie wanted to suspend David and strip him of the title, but the investigator informed all that the victim, in this case DMK, wished for David to not receive "extraordinary" punishments. So instead, Stephanie scheduled a title rematch from the past PPV, putting the "Genius" in a 3 Stages of Hell match against a very angry Mack Wheeler! The "Human Semi" was furious over being screwed out of the WWE Title by Anarchy, and took out his revenge in a vicious cage match. Desperate to find a way to play mind games with his rival, David distracted him during a Handicap match against Parker & Coop, causing Mack to lose by countout. Less than a week ago, a contract signing was held involving the 2 match competitors as well as Stephanie and Mr. McMahon. Mack didn't have any stipulations to add, but David did: if he wins and retains the title, then Stephanie will be removed as Raw General Manager! The "Billion-Dollar Princess" said that she had faith that Mack would win and end David's reign, and the match's challenging environments seem to tilt the match in Mack's favor. But David has been known to find ways to claim victory, so you can't count the "Genius" out! Who will emerge as Raw's top champion?

Tag Team Championship:
Alpha & Omega {C} vs. American Cool

The Tag Team Title scene has been very interesting to watch this month, and the Japanese luchadors face a stiff challenge ahead. Alpha & Omega won the belts at Survivor Series and successfully defended them against the Bullet Boyz again in December. Meanwhile, the Smackdown brand has basically become "tag team city" with several teams vying for positioning. Antonio Jordan & Krizz Torture re-entered the race, the new team of Rebel Ford & Ace raised some eyebrows and the H-Squared team of ECW champ Hitman Jack & H.E.R.O. have been improving for months. Antonio & Krizz defeated Rebel & Ace in a #1 contender's match, albeit thanks to some unwanted interference by Intercontinental champ Quinn Cadbury, but the Japanese duo and their mentor Master Kimoto didn't seem too impressed. The following week, Hitman & H.E.R.O. challenged the new #1 contenders to a new #1 contender's match... but American Cool emerged victorious to defend their title shot! Meanwhile, Alpha & Omega continue to dominate local tag teams and basically lurk in the shadows. Can the popular American duo claim their 2nd title reign... or are the Japanese champs lulling them into a unbeatable challenge?

U.S. Championship:
Renegade {C} vs. Brett Diamond

The strange transformation of Renegade from rising underdog to erratic wildman has shocked the fans nearly every step of the way. From no-showing matches, to wild schemes about helping his partner earn a title shot, to losing his title, to betraying his pal... all the way to winning back the title in controversial fashion... have fans wondering what the deal is with the "Party Animal". On the other hand, Breakout Star Award winner Brett Diamond had an incredible year but saw him lose his U.S. Title at the TLC PPV. Their rivalry has been odd, but it finally turned violent in a backstage brawl a few weeks ago. Can Brett find a way to overcome the crazed champion and regain his title... or will Renegade again sacrifice his body to keep the stars-and-stripes belt?

Divas Championship (Ladder Match):
Brittany Black {C} vs. Beth Phoenix

The feud between rookie Brittany Black and the "Glamazon" has been raging for months, but this month it seemed to finally take a nasty turn. After Beth lost the title to the "Evil Diva" back in October, she's been on a quest to threaten and intimidate the rookie grappler. But instead, it's been Brittany who's the most frightening with her impressive ring skills and ability to out-think her opponents. To turn the tables, Beth offered to change up the title rematch... by making it a Ladder match! So now, the lady who can survive the vicious match... and climb to the top... will snag Raw's top women's belt!

World Heavyweight Championship (No DQ Match):
Angus {C} vs. Eric Executioner (w/ Mr. Black)

At last month's PPV, Eric Executioner survived an incredible 4-way TLC match to retain the World Heavyweight Title. It seemed like his reign was now on an unstoppable path, with no challengers in sight. Enter Mr. Money in the Bank! On the first Smackdown of the month, Angus entered during a title celebration for Eric... and cashed in his coveted briefcase! After a great battle, Angus pinned the champ to become Smackdown's top man! Eric wanted an immediate rematch the following week, but GM Triple H denied the request and instead offered a rematch at the Rumble. "The Game" also offered a threat: if Eric attacked Angus outside of a normal match, he would be suspended! The "Narcissist" held himself in check throughout the month, until a tag team match days before the PPV. He smacked Angus with a chair during the match, earning a DQ loss. Triple H threatened the suspension, but Angus interrupted and told him to not suspend his rival. Instead, the "Irish Giant" offered a new idea... making their title match a No DQ match! Angus wants to be a fighting champion, and felt confident enough to open up the match to possible shenanigans. Can the huge champion find victory in his first title defense... or is Eric and Mr. Black planning a way to get the title back?

30-Man Royal Rumble Match
To end the event will be the prestigious 30-man over-the-top-rope battle royal, with the winner earning a main event match at the next WrestleMania. Throughout the month, several events seemed to hint at a possible crazy match. Gravedigger held several battle royal challenges on Raw, defeating or eliminating competitors from both Raw and Smackdown. But in his final challenge, Carson Pain returned from a brief absence... and won the match by eliminating 'Digger last! The "Graveyard Monster" seemed like a favorite heading into Sunday, but will last year's winner have something to say about that? Also, a huge brawl broke out on Smackdown over possible Royal Rumble entrants and their braggadocios ways. Several vignettes have played at Raw each week, hinting at someone making an appearance at the Rumble. Could it be in the 30-man match? Who will emerge as the next big challenger for the WWE or World Heavyweight Titles?

February Week 1 Previews

RAW PREVIEW

1) The "King" Returns
In one of the most surprising returns ever, DMK returned from a months-long absence to enter the Royal Rumble at #30 and outlast all to win the match. The "King" had been out recovering from injuries suffered at the hands of David Degenerate, who used a service truck to smash DMK's Corvette with him inside at the conclusion of the Judgment Day PPV back in October. The crowd at Sunday's PPV were stunned to see DMK return, and it was even more satisfying to see David's reaction at ringside when DMK's music hit. The Rumble victory puts DMK on a direct path to challenge for David's WWE Title, so clearly the Road to WrestleMania has kicked off with a *BONG*!

2) Steph out; Vince in?
Another major development from the Royal Rumble PPV came out of the results of the night's opening match, the 3 Stages of Hell WWE Title bout betwene David Degenerate and Mack Wheeler. The "Human Semi" won the first stage, but the "Dangerous Genius" rallied back to win the final 2 stages to retain the WWE Championship. Due to stipulations agreed to days before on Raw, David's victory also meant that Raw GM Stephanie McMahon must step down from her position! As we saw on the PPV, Vince announced that he would assume the Raw GM spot until a proper replacement can be announced. How will Vince and his clearly biased actions affect the red brand going forward?

3) Renegade retains by a thread
In a wild U.S. Title match, the "Party Animal" used his last ounce of energy to land a Kick-olution finishing kick to Brett Diamond's chin and was able to pin him to retain the belt. The erratic champ has been so hard to figure out lately, and it obviously has been an advantage for him. What's next for the U.S. champ? Is his feud with Brett finished? If so, what's next for the "Professional"?

4) Divas & Tag Team champs retain also and 'Digger falls short
In other news, 2 other Raw champions kept their titles with victories at Royal Rumble. Divas champ Brittany Black pulled down the belt in a Ladder match against Beth Phoenix while the Japanese luchadors Alpha & Omega beat Smackdown's American Cool to retain the Tag Team Titles. Are there new challengers bubbling up for them? In the Royal Rumble, Gravedigger's vow to win fell short as he was eliminated by rival Carson Pain. Carson also failed to win the match (see #1 above), so it will be interesting to see where the "Graveyard Monster" and "The Original" stand.

SMACKDOWN PREVIEW

1) The "Irish Giant" keeps the title
In a hard-hitting title bout, Angus was able to overcome Eric Executioner and constant interference from Mr. Black to retain the World Heavyweight Title. Now that the shock of his Money in the Bank cash-in has worn off and he has scored his first successful title defense, where will Angus go next on the Road to WrestleMania? Will Eric & Mr. Black have another opportunity to challenge for the belt?

2) Tag team troubles?
The month of January saw numerous Smackdown-brand tag teams vying for a shot at the Tag Team Titles held by Raw's Alpha & Omega. American Cool, H2 and a new team of Rebel Ford & Ace battled all month to claim the #1 contender spot. Antonio Jordan & Krizz Torture won back-to-back #1 contender matches to earn a title shot, but at the Royal Rumble they were unable to overcome the Japanese luchadors to win the belts. Not only that, but the Royal Rumble match later revealed some possible underlying issues. For American Cool, miscommunication during the Tag Team Title match led to their defeat and they still weren't on the same page - as Antonio shockingly eliminated his own tag partner during the Rumble! Also, H.E.R.O. went on an amazing run during the 30-man match, scoring 9 eliminations - one of which was his own ally Hitman Jack! Is there trouble in tag team paradise?

3) Quinn continues to poke the bear
Intercontinental champ and "English Gentleman" Quinn Cadbury continues to rub folks the wrong way on the blue brand. Currently annoying Ace and interim GM Triple H, he escaped with the title after again taking a DQ loss just days before the Rumble PPV. It seems like the heat under him is growing hotter, making his title reign seem more and more like it is in danger.

4) Many challengers to filter through
One of the strengths of the Smackdown brand is the depth of talent; one of the drawbacks is that there's not enough title belts to go around. Rebel Ford, Guy Justice, Joseph T. Lutte, Cruiserweight champ Rusty, etc. are a few of many strong grapplers that don't currently have direction as the Road to WrestleMania begins. Will things start to get sorted out as the month begins?

February Week 1 Raw & Superstars Results

The Raw after the Royal Rumble saw interim GM Mr. McMahon throw his weight around! The WWE Chairman announced a huge match for the next PPV already, and it put DMK into a very unfair circumstance. Also, the "King" had to face a big-time rival in the main event... would he emerge victorious? Also, a backstage assault left one superstar needing medical attention and many other events helped the red brand continue on the path to WrestleMania!

RAW PREVIEW

1) DMK faces Chamber doom
DMK made his triumphant return to Monday Night Raw just a night after winning the Royal Rumble, but faced a very different landscape than the one he lived in back in October. Now, with Mr. McMahon assuming interim GM duties, his Rumble victory wasn't as sweet as you would usually think. The WWE Chairman announced that DMK would be forced to defend his WrestleMania WWE Title shot against 5 other challengers... in the Elimination Chamber! Not only that, but each week he would face the most-recently announced challenger (or challengers) in a match type of Mr. McMahon's choosing. Last week saw DMK face off against rival Gravedigger, but despite help from Carson Pain, the "King" was beaten cleanly by the determined "Graveyard Monster". Is this a sign of things to come, or was DMK just battling ring rust against a difficult opponent? Also... who is next to join the Chamber match???

2) David D. returns from "rest"
The reigning WWE Champion was absent from Raw last week because of needing "rest" according to corporate ally Mr. McMahon. The "Dangerous" Genius is expected to appear this week, so what's next for the champ as he awaits the results of the Elimination Chamber match? Does another challenger step in to face David or does the "Genius" coast to WrestleMania?

3) Renegade is not finished
In one of the more shocking moments of last week's show, U.S. champ Renegade brutally attacked rival Brett Diamond backstage. The assault left Brett in a broken, bloodied mess that required urgent medical attention. This event was just another of many erratic moments from the "Party Animal" but it does ask where that leaves his rivalry with Brett... and the status of the U.S. Championship. Would the "Professional" be able to recover and retaliate? Is Renegade sending a message to anybody else who dares to face him?

4) Thunder dominates his debut, Tank scores a big win and something "cooking" for the women's division?
The "Strongest Stud" Thunder made his official Raw debut last week, squashing Corey Youngblood one night after an impressive debut in the Royal Rumble match. What's next for Raw's newest rookie? Also, Tank Blazer teamed up with Shawn Midnight and scored a win over his Hardcore rival Big Mutha Trucker, pinning Lee Money in a Tornado Tag match. Is the "Captain" planning to use the win as a springboard to a Hardcore Title rematch? And finally, Mr. McMahon crossed paths with Divas champ Brittany Black during the show and mentioned he was "cooking up an idea" for the women's division. What does that mean for the "Evil Diva" and the rest of Raw's female superstars?

SMACKDOWN PREVIEW

1) World Heavyweight Title Chamber announced
The biggest announcement out of the blue brand last week was a World Heavyweight Championship Elimination Chamber match! Angus will defend his title against 5 qualifying challengers, who will earn their spots throughout the month in a series of qualifying matches. Eric Executioner, with his manager Mr. Black only watching the match from the front row instead of at ringside, defeated Rebel Ford despite interference from Angus to claim the first spot in the Chamber. It's clear that the animosity between the "Irish Giant" and the "Narcissist" is still alive, but there will soon be 4 other grapplers ready to battle them!

2) The tale of two tag teams
One of the interesting developments coming out of the Royal Rumble was the status of two prominent tag teams: American Cool with Antonio Jordan & Krizz Torture and H2 of Hitman Jack & H.E.R.O. In the 30-man Rumble match, Antonio eliminated Krizz after another argument and H.E.R.O. eliminated the ECW champ, causing a rift between both alliances. During last week's Smackdown episode, the differences between how each partnership handled it was stark. Antonio & Krizz seem to be on the verge of a breakup, while the "Lethal Canadian" and the "Cali Dragon" want to re-focus on their tag team prowess, although some may argue that Hitman may be losing his trust. Will the respective partnerships be able to reconcile and move forward... or is there more lurking under the surface?

3) Quinn faces the consequences
Intercontinental champ Quinn Cadbury had to deal with interim GM Triple H's wrath last week, as "The Game" expressed his disappointment in Quinn's behavior regarding his most recent title defenses. Triple H told Quinn that he would have to defend his title again... against Ace again... but this time, if Quinn takes a DQ or countout loss (which would normally allow him to retain the title), then he would lose the title outright! So now the "English Gentleman" has to face the "Ultimate Superstar" and somehow must win cleanly to keep his precious belt!

4) The Jersey Family makes challenges
Jersey Jenny and brother Paulie Dominos each have a title on their sights, but no direct way to get a title shot. So, they are taking their inquiries right to the source... by challenging the current champs to non-title matches! J.J. picked up a win last week but was interrupted by Women's champ Eve Torres and her creepy manager Mr. Black. The "Shore's Princess" wanted a title rematch but Eve agreed to let her prove it... by trying to beat Eve herself! Then backstage, the siblings crossed paths with Cruiserweight champ Rusty, who Paulie failed to defeat in a November title shot. "Mr. Amazing" expressed his desire for another shot, and Rusty agreed to face Dominos in a one-on-one bout this week. Will both siblings earn their title matches... or will it be a long wait for one (or both) of them?
