30. November 2013
Burton Albion vs. Portsmouth
Pirelli Stadium

Burton Albion 0-1 Portsmouth

45+1' Ricky Holmes - POR

A nice bounce-back win against a decent Burton Albion side this afternoon for Richie Barker's squad. It started out well with Simon Ferry's perfect ball into the box for David Connolly in the 28th minute that crashed against the crossbar. Eventually, in the first minute of stoppage time of the first half Ricky Holmes was able to steal the ball from a defender, cut inside the box and drill a low shot passed the diving Burton Albion keeper. It was 1-0 going into the half, and with a few chances to put the game away in the second half that were squandered, that was the way it would stay. Back on track for league leaders Portsmouth.

3. December 2013
Portsmouth vs. Bristol Rovers
Fratton Park
Portsmouth 0-2 Bristol Rovers

16' Pat Keary - BRI
59' Seanan Clucas (Ellis Harrison) - BRI

Pat Keary celebrates his opening goal in front of the traveling supporters.

Bristol Rovers came into Fratton Park this evening and put on a solid defensive showing. Allowing only one shot on goal, they were able to stifle league leading Portsmouth. The first chance for The Pirates found the back of the net in the 16th minute as Pat Keary pounced on a loose ball in the box after a corner kick and was first to react as he slotted home passed Trevor Carson. As the game wore on, the Pompey midfield looked sluggish and couldn't find a way to break down The Pirates back line. With the growing frustration came poor decisions, which led to a silly foul from 30 yards out on the right side of the field in the 59th minute. The ensuing free kick was headed on by Ellis Harrison, who's shot was parried by Carson. Once again, Bristol Rovers were first to react and Seanan Clucas was there to one-time the rebound into the back of the net to add the insurance goal that would surely see off the league leaders.

10. December 2013
Portsmouth vs. Cheltenham Town
Fratton Park

Portsmouth 3-1 Cheltenham Town
(ET)
17' David Connolly (Johannes Ertl) - POR
71' Terry Gornell (Kemar Roofe) - CHL
93' Johannes Ertl - POR
115' Ricky Holmes - POR

David Connolly opens the scoring with a classy chip passed the keeper.

In the Johnstone's Paint Trophy Area Semi Final, we saw two League Two sides square off in a classic. The game started fast with David Connolly grabbing a pass from Johannes Ertl and chipping it passed the Cheltenham Town keeper in the 17th minute. From here it looked like easy pickings until, against the run of play in the 71st minute, Kemar Roofe found Terry Gornell open in the box. Gornell got a little help from a deflection that put the ball through the legs of Pompey keeper Trevor Carson. With the two teams finding themselves in extra time, Portsmouth were desperate to end the game before penalties. Ertl was able to grab a loose ball in the box just three minutes into the first period of extra time and slam home a ball to the right of the keeper for the 2-1 lead. With just 5 minutes remaining, Pompey star Ricky Holmes scored a much deserved goal as he picked the pushing Cheltenham defense and ran in on goal. He was able to push the ball under the helpless keeper for the undeniable 3-1 lead and eventual win. The Pompey now move on to the Johnstone's Paint Trophy Area Final in a two leg tie with Sheffield United, first at home, then away.

Ertl's game winner in the 93rd minute. He provided a spark offensively today from his holding midfield position.

Haha! That would be crazy! I can tell you that after taking so much time off from this manager mode, I have my work cut out for me to get back in form lol.

I had been fiddling around with World Cup and a Sunderland manager mode which has thrown me off a bit.

As always, thanks for following Orion!
