7. January 2014
Portsmouth vs. Bury
Fratton Park

Portsmouth 2-0 Bury

38' Yassin Moutaouakil (Therry Racon) - POR
79' Romain Padovani - POR

Romain Padovani heads home his first goal in league play.

Welcome back Pompey! Portsmouth absolutely dominated against a decent Bury side that has been looking to crawl up the table into the top half. Pompey put the pressure on all game and it paid off as they were able to create chance after chance from Bury turnovers. The first goal was quite a fluke goal, but was well deserved, as Yassin Moutaouakil received a ball from Therry Racon on the right flank. His miss-hit cross caught everyone off guard as it caromed off the bottom of the crossbar and into the goal for the 1-0 lead in the 38th minute. It may have been 1-0 for a while, but the game was always in the hands of Portsmouth. This was finally established for good in the 79th minute with Romain Padovani's first league goal of the year. His header off a 50-50 ball in the box saw three points heading Pompey's way.

Thanks Matt! I was in the middle of my next recap when I realized! Good catch

I just grabbed a player on loan that I didn't think I'd be able to grab because he had just joined his team...I'm REALLY excited for this player. I'll have some info on him soon!

Portsmouth Transfer News

In

American international Julian Green joins Portsmouth from FC Bayern

In shocking news, FC Bayern have agreed to loan out American midfielder Julian Green. The wages agreed upon were for $5,000 per month for 12 months. Also added by Portsmouth was a 5% goal bonus. This is great for both clubs as Portsmouth adds depth to their midfield and FC Bayern are able to send out a player, otherwise buried, to get playing time elsewhere.

"We are excited for the addition of Julian to our squad and we can see him battling for a starting spot right away" stated a happy Richie Barker.

Fans can expect to see Julian Green finding significant playing time with the recent injury to Jed Wallace who's broken tibia has left him sidelined for quite some time.

18. January 2014
Exeter City vs. Portsmouth
St. James' Park

Exeter City 1-0 Portsmouth

65' Sam Parkin (David Wheeler) - EXE

Sam Parkin of Exeter City puts away the game's only goal in the 65th minute.

Sleep walking can be the only description as to the way Portsmouth played this evening at St. James' Park. Exeter City didn't look much better, but were able to put away one of their minimal chances to come away with the important 3 home points. The lone goal came in the 65th minute after an errant giveaway in the midfield led to a break towards the Pompey goal. David Wheeler had the presence of mind to find Sam Parkin who took a couple touches before bending one into the far corner from 19 yards out. It was a very nice strike that deserved to be labeled a game-winner, and it was just that.

Right on target for automatic promotion, and a league title, not too shabby for a first year in command. Acquiring Green was an absolute coup, at this level he may dominate.

20. January 2014
Area Final (Leg 1)
Portsmouth vs. Sheffield United
Fratton Park

Portsmouth 1-1 Sheffield United

72' Stephen McGinn - SHU
82' George Branford - POR

Fratton Park erupts with George Branford's late equalizer.

In the first leg of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy Area Final between Sheffield United and Portsmouth, the Fratton Park faithful were more than entertained. A chippy game eventually calmed down as both teams came out of the tunnel clipping at each others ankles. Eventually both sides put the ball on the ground and played the game the way it was always supposed to be played, but it took 3 yellow cards (2 for Pompey) to get the game going. The scoring didn't occur until late in the game when Stephen McGinn pounced on a rebound after a terrific save by Pompey keeper John Sullivan. The 72nd minute goal was then answered by an 82nd minute equalizer by George Branford. Branford was able to jump onto a loose ball at the top of the box after Portsmouth forward Ryan Bird had the ball poked from him. The finish was slammed to the near post and the keeper never had a chance. This sets up a sensational second leg at Bramall Lane in two weeks.

Up Next: League 2 Match vs. Torquay United (9-12-7 39 pts, 12th)

Believe it or not he fits right in. He's a 63 overall right now and has amazing pace but lacks in physical nature. I started him against Exeter City and he did nothing for me. I was afraid of the same thing when I first looked into getting him, but he actually fits in nicely. Played all my reserves in the 1-1 draw in the Area Final, so he'll get his second cap for me in the next game.

Thanks for the comment!
