Journey Across Five Continents! (New Star Soccer - iPhone)

As some of you may know, the game New Star Soccer is ridiculously addicting. In a solid 2-D format, it basically allows you to play out your career as a footballer on and off the pitch. Buy property, go to the casino, etc!

You start as a broke, down-on-your-luck 16 year-old. Invariably in the lowest league in your country of your choice. Then, you improbably work your way to the top!

WARNING - Downloading this onto your iPhone will ruin your social life.

Since this isn't on my notoriously corrupted PS3, this story should go for a LONG TIME.

Without further ado...

CARLOS' FIVE CONTINENT CHALLENGE

My character for the duration of this story will be Carlos Mendoza. Mendoza is a sixteen year-old Canadian kid who moves with his family to Argentina. Despite his name, Carlos speaks zero Spanish and will have to try and survive in what South Americans call, "The Jungle."

My goal will be to play on all five continents available in the game (South America, North America, Europe, Asia, Africa) in a somewhat-realistic manner.

Regulations on 'Winning a Continent' (before I can move to the next):
- Win top division in domestic league
- Win continental competition (only applicable in-game in Europe and Asia)

Also, I will try to crack the Canadian national team and lead them to World Cup glory, which will be very difficult controlling just one player.

So please, follow along as I pour hours of time into NEW STAR SOCCER and the career of Carlos Mendoza!

ARRRIIIIIBBBBAAAA

Just arrived here in sunny Argentina, and boy is it hot!

The flight down was packed, with all sorts of weird languages and such. Very different from the friendly streets of suburban Toronto, to say the least!

We've settled into our apartment in an upscale part of Buenos Aires, which mum says is the Argentine capital. Even though we essentially live in a gated community, mum still said we're not allowed out after 7 at night. Bummer.

Very excited for tomorrow, as Dad's set up some kind of trial with a few of the local football coaches. Footy was always a passion of mine back home, but I doubt I'll be able to crack any of the pro teams' academies down here!

That's all for now, I'll talk to you tomorrow after the trial!

Re: Journey Across Five Continents! (New Star Soccer - iPhone)

How exciting have the last seventy-two hours been!?!

We arrived in Buenos Aires, checked out our new apartment, AND I signed my first ever professional contract!

Unbelievable!

The trial went quite well, though I did get a lot of dirty looks from some of the other Argentine trialists who were gunning for the same contract as me. They also shouted, "Gringo" at me quite a bit, not sure what that means...

Regardless, there were quite a few scouts and even some club managers at the trial in a seedy part of Buenos Aires, and I did well!

My shooting, always my strong suit, showed well in the drills we did, and I picked up a goal in the intersquad match!

After the day's drills ended, a few scouts approached me, though none really had any offers and were merely interested as to why a Canadian was playing on a dusty pitch in Buenos Aires.

Only two managers actually approached me- Ivan Delfino, the manager from Crucero_del_Norte and Fernando Quiroz, the manager from Club Atletico Douglas Haig.

While Crucero del Norte offered me a slightly larger contract than C.A.D.H., my dad insisted that if I was going to join a club immediately it had to be in Buenos Aires, where my family's still just putting down our roots and getting settled in.

Thus, my first season in the South American concrete jungle will be spent in the Argentine Second Division, with C.A. Douglas Haig!

Looking forward to this. A dynasty involving a mobile game is long overdue.
