1954 FIFA WORLD CUP

FIFA Fußball-Weltmeisterschaft 1954 Schweiz

Host country: Switzerland

16 teams divided in 4 groups. The top two of each group advance to the quarter-finals. Looks simple, right?

But 1954 had actually the most stupid format ever in its group stage. Each group contained two seeded teams and two unseeded teams. Only four matches were scheduled for each group, each pitting a seeded team against an unseeded team.

Why? No idea.

This is probably quite hard (if possible) to replicate on FIFA 14, so the Classic Patch has the 1954 group stage as a normal round robin with six games on each group and this is what we'll play.

Re: Historic World Cups - The Brazilian Adventure (FIFA14)

The home loss in the 1950 World Cup coupled with a loss against Paraguay in the 1952 South American Cup Final led Brazilians to consider the white jerseys they always wore unlucky, besides being unpatriotic for not having the colors of the national flag.

A contest was made in 1953 to choose the design of a new kit Brazil would wear in the 1954 World Cup. It should have all the colors of the Brazilian flag: green, yellow, blue and white. The winner was 19-year old journalist and writer Aldyr Schlee, who designed this model:

...I don't really know if I'll get used to it =P

Re: Historic World Cups - The Brazilian Adventure (FIFA14)

and the goal fest in my games continue, which annoys me a bit, especially since the cpu-simulated games goal average is incorrectly low.

in the thread so far i played 15 games, scored 47 goals and conceded 35, for groundbreaking 5.47 goals per game.

in real life, brazil played 17 world cup games from 1930 to 1954, scored 50 goals and conceded 27. a 4.53 goals per game average, which actually is much closer to my results than what i believed.

anyway, overly offensive formations aside, the players at the mod are definitely overrated in their shooting and crossing ratings overall, which also explains this a bit. let's see how this works out after the 70's, as default formations evolve.

so we end the era before the first brazilian title without doing any better (kinda worse, actually). let's see what happens when pelé comes to the equation in 1958.
