The next World Cup would be scheduled for 1942, but because of World War II, there is not gonna be tournaments in 1942 and 1946. So as we have to wait so long, let's take a look at some numbers of these first three tournaments:

- 27 teams have participated: 7 from South America, 15 from Europe, 3 from North and Central America, 1 from Africa and 1 from Asia.
- 156 goals have been scored by 102 different players.
- Biggest goalscorers were Guillermo Stábile (ARG) and Vilmos Kohut (HUN), with 6 goals each.

Re: Historic World Cups - The Brazilian Adventure (FIFA14)

thanks for all you guys following!

some ramblings:

i notice a considerable discrepancy between my scores and those simulated by the cpu, despite my sliders being optimized for them to be realistic.

the simmed games are averaging 2.77 goals per game so far (in 43 matches), while in my 6 games i had an obscene 6.17 goals per game average.

for the records, these world cups had an aggregate average of 4.22 goals per game in real life.

i'm sure about one thing: i don't know how the simulation works but it is flawed. 2.77 is a modern game average, no way scores would be so thin when almost every team played with 2 defenders and 5 forwards. it looks like formations have no (or very little) influence in the outcome when the cpu simulates the games.

as for my own games, i noticed the shots to feel a bit overpowered with this mod (which might help goals being scored more often). one thing is i think ratings are a bit too high for old school football. almost every team have 4+ stars while i don't believe ANY team in the 30's should ever be rated 4.5 stars or more, given how poorly fit players were, compared to today. but okay, no need to be so picky. the other thing is the ball physics feel a bit different than vanilla or more popular patches like moddingway. i believed it was because old scholl balls were indeed heavier, but i tried a friendly with 90's teams to check and the ball still feels heavier and shots come kinda stronger than what i feel to be normal. so i think this is probably something the modder could have been edited in the database to fit the gameplay to his preferences, i don't know.

anyway, i'm not gonna edit sliders just for this patch. at least i feel like i'm getting my fair share of wins and losses (brazil in the 30's was a decent team, but really not one of the strongest). so let's go on.

Re: Historic World Cups - The Brazilian Adventure (FIFA14)

Despite living in a World at War, the South American Cups were still running during WWII. Peru were champions in 1939, with Argentina gaining the trophy back in 1941. Uruguay were champions in 1942. Following that, three Argentine titles in 1945, 1946 and 1947. Brazil finally got the trophy in 1949, gaining their first continental title since 1922 just one year before the first World Cup to be played in their home soil.

At the first Olympic games after the war, London 1948, Sweden won the Gold Medal beating Yugoslavia on the final. But as professionalism spread around the world, the gap in quality between the World Cup and the Olympics widened. The countries that benefited most were the Soviet Bloc countries of Eastern Europe, where top athletes were state-sponsored while retaining their status as amateurs. All the eight gold medals in the following years until 1980 would be won by Eastern Europe.

Re: Historic World Cups - The Brazilian Adventure (FIFA14)

1950 FIFA WORLD CUP

IV Campeonato Mundial de Futebol

Host country: Brazil

Originally, 16 teams would be divided in 4 groups with the winner of each group advancing for a final round robin. The format was an idea of the Brazilian organizers to generate more ticket revenue, and also to prevent European teams to make a journey to South America and be eliminated after just one match.

Before the final draw, Scotland, Turkey and Peru withdrew. FIFA invited United States, Portugal and France to fill the gaps. Portugal refused. United States accepted. France initially accepted and was entered into the draw, which then had 15 teams, but France and India withdrew later, leaving group D with only two teams and the World Cup as a whole with only 13.
