COULD FC PORTO'S DEFENCE BE THE KEY?

Thou Shall Not Pass

FC Porto made it three clean sheets in a row following their 1-0 defeat of Guimaraes in fixture three of the Liga Nos season. Aside from the physical nature of the game, what was most evident was the defensive organisation shown by Porto throughout the game. New centre back duo Dede and Rodrigo Caio seem to have developed an early understanding and have certainly complimented each other well so far this season. In addition the four full backs all have qualities which can be used depending on the requirements and needs within a particular game. So could the backline of FC Porto bring them the Liga Nos title?

Club insider Paolo Ferreira certainly believes so. 'The Porto offence is yet to catch light, but at some stage it will and that will spell danger for the Lisbon duo. I cannot see this defence weakening with the options available to Jardel and the rest will follow suit as the season progresses. If the attacking players click sooner rather than later then I honestly believe Porto can run away from the rest.'

FC Porto travel to Belenenses in week four before they begin their Champions League campaign away to FC Basel. The first real test will be in week six when they travel to SC Braga, but before that they will be focused on heading forward with possibly another three shut outs in the bag.
