NR2003: 2004 Busch Season
2004 Busch season- Chase Rules- winners and then points until 12th. 23 race regular season. 7 race playoff- cut 4 after first 3, cut 4 after next 3, four drivers run for championship at Homestead. Must compete in 20 of 23 regular season races to qualify. Chase qualifiers auto Qualify for chase races. Top 30 in points automatically make race in first five races. Most recent past champion makes race not in on speed make race. Cup Regulars do not qualify for chase. Chase points are reset to 3000 and then the chase point system is F1 points style 12 to 1; so the highest finishing chase participant gets 12 down to the last chase participant who gets 1 point.

Andrews also announced that beginning at Talladega the top 35 in points will automatically make the races, but to qualify for the chase you must stay in the top 30. The deal will see Ashburn drive the #9 Ford that has won once this season with Mark Martin behind the wheel. His first race will be the Charter Pipeline 250 at Gateway in 4 weeks. Rensi Motorsports will start up a new team after the heat race announcement, driver and number is unknown but they are shooting to start by next weekend. The top 35 changes as #87-Nemecheck falls out to 36th and #64-Rusty Wallace shoots up to 29th and a an automatic starting spot for the #64 Rusty Wallace Racing machine. |

The next uploads will look alot better with pictures and more of a race report. I got an idea to post this after looking back at another dynasty I tried to do. This is was just something to get you caught up.

Race 7: Pepsi 300 at Pocono Raceway
Heat Race Winner: #33- Menard Qualified in from Heat Race: #33- Menard, #6-Blaney, #18-Yeley, #87-Nemechek, #75-Jay Sauter DNQ: #4-M. Wallace, #74-Raines, #96-Holman, #39-Gordon, #56-Mosley, #84-Weber, and #0-Feese. Pole: #8-Martin Truex Jr. Top 5: Winner- #25 M. McLaughlin 2. #9- M. Martin 3. #2- R. Hornaday Jr. 4. #43- A. Fike 5. #55- R. Gordon Race Report- The Pepsi 300 at Pocono was a 125 lap race for the Busch Grand National Tour. It is believed to be the first time the Grand National cars are going to race at the “Tricky Triangle”. #8 Martin Truex Jr. would take the pole with #43 Aaron Fike on the outside line. The first lap was led by #43 Aaron Fike and #8 Martin Truex Jr. dropped back to 5th by the end of the second lap. #36 Travis Geisler would break a gearbox and on the restart on lap 55, #25 Mike McLaughlin took the lead from #43 Aaron Fike. On lap 73, #27 Johnny Sauter lost a valve on the engine and his day was over. On lap 91, #43 Aaron Fike made the move on #25 Mike McLaughlin to go back out in front. After a round of green flag pitstops, #25 Mike McLaughlin would come out in front of #43 Aaron Fike by 3 seconds after the #43 had an air gun get jammed. The green flag stops would prove to be pivotal as the #25 would win over the #9 of Mark Martin by 13 seconds. #25 McLaughlin would led the most laps today at 60, only 2 more than the 58 that the #43 of Aaron Fike. This is #25 McLaughlin’s first win of the season and will lock him into the chase. The points leader #8 Martin Truex Jr finished 7th and 2nd place point runner Ron Hornaday Jr. came home in 3rd. Next week the Grand National Tour heads out west, to California Speedway.
