Smackdown opened with Sting' 99 coming out. He was frustrated about losing the US Title last week, but wouldn't go after a rematch. Instead, he wanted AJ Styles and the Undisputed Title. That brought out Samoa Joe, who also wanted a shot. They were placed against one another in the main event for a title shot at Payback.
WWE Smackdown WOmen's Championship: Peyton Royce [c] def. Summer Rae via Venus Fly Trap.
The Revival def. The Allied Powers via Shatter Machine. Post-match, the Revival said Diesel and Shawn Michaels only beat them because it was a Tables match and that they could never be pinned in a tag match. HBK and Diesel accepted their challenge.
Luke Harper def. Titus O'Neil via discus lariat. Albert jumped Harper after the match.
Roman Reigns def. Bam Bam Bigelow. New Smackdown star Scott Hall watched from the stage.
WWE European Championship: Rusev [c] def. Mojo Rawley via Accolade. It was a dominating performance.
Bret Hart '97 def. Goldust via Sharpshooter.
Seth Rollins showed up, disappointed in failing to capture both the US and European Titles. With others making challenges for Payback, he called out The Rock '01. The Rock obliged, and Seth proceeded to say that beating him is the kind of thing he needs to do to set his career back on track. Rock accepted the match, but guaran-damn-teed that Seth wasn't going to use him as a stepping stone.
Number One Contender's Match: Samoa Joe vs. Sting '99 never got started, as Joe attacked Sting during his entrance. Following the show, It was announced on WWE.com that AJ Styles agreed to defend against both men at Payback.
