Mertens 94th minute goal gotta be the most unfair moment in the World Cup so far. England dominated the game entirely, outshot 20 to 8 and only didn't get a comfortable win because Courtois was in god mode.

Group stage facts

124 goals were scored in the group stage, for an average of 2.58 goals per game. It seems like 12 or 13 minute halves would both be alright, but I'll increase it to 13 for the rest of the tournament, because I like goals.

Best team: Portugal - 3 wins, 9 GF, 1 GA. It's the only team with an 100% record.

Best offense: Belgium - 10 goals scored

Best defense: Portugal, France, Croatia, Nigeria and Colombia - 1 goal conceded

Top Scorers: Ronaldo (Portugal) and Rashford (England) - 4 goals

Assist Leaders: David Silva (Spain), Toivonen (Sweden), Hernández (Mexico) and Hazard (Belgium) - 3 assists

Best XI:

GK Courtois (Belgium)
RB Walker (England)
CB Alderweireld (Belgium)
CB Otamendi (Argentina)
LB Danny Rose (England)
CDM/CM João Moutinho (Portugal)
CDM/CM Khedira (Germany)
CAM Eriksen (Denmark)
RM/RW David Silva (Spain)
LM/LW Chadli (Belgium)
ST/CF Griezmann (France)

Best Player: Antoine Griezmann (France) - 3 appearances, 2 goal, 2 assists, 8.9 average

Re: 2018 FIFA WORLD CUP - CPU VS CPU

10 penalties were awarded. 8 scored and 2 saved.

3 red cards were brandished (two of them straight without a yellow, and one of those for a goalkeeper, which was cool).

The less disciplined team was Iran, with one red card and three yellows. The most disciplined were Argentina, Brazil, Croatia, Denmark, Egypt, Panama, Peru and Poland, with no card, because EA.

The honour of worst team of the World Cup goes to Panama, with 3 losses, 2 GF, 10 GA.

Re: 2018 FIFA WORLD CUP - CPU VS CPU

Lots of goals in the first day of the knockout stage!

A tense first game until the deadlock was broken, then France imposed themselves for a comfortable win.

40 thousand voices driving Russia against the odds in Sochi for a spectacular win against the much more powerful Spain.

ROUND OF 16

30/06/2018

17:00 - Kazan Arena
France 3-1 Nigeria
Giroud 47' 71', Lacazette 63' (FRA), Balogun 90'+ (NGA)

21:00 - Fisht Stadium
Russia 4-2 Spain
Miranchuk 21' 67' 73', Smolov 50' (RUS), Diego Costa 26', Thiago 64' (ESP)

The attacking midfielder Alexey Miranchuk haven't scored a single goal in all the group stage. But when he started, it was for the first hat-trick in the World Cup and for a historic win. It's the first time Russia hit the quarter-finals since 1970, when they still played as part of the Soviet Union.

Re: 2018 FIFA WORLD CUP - CPU VS CPU

In a game of beautiful goals, Cristiano Ronaldo makes the difference and scores thrice for Portugal to go through. Ronaldo gains ground in the race for the Golden Boot with 7 goals scored, a large advantage of three over his best rivals.

And in a game where the goalkeepers stand out, Croatia get the upper hand and go to the quarter-finals for the second time on their history.

01/07/2018

17:00 - Luzhniki Stadium
Portugal 3-2 Uruguay
Cavani 16', Nández 41' (URU), Ronaldo 18'(P.) 30' 34' (POR)

21:00 - Nizhny Novgorod Stadium
Croatia 1-0 Denmark
Perisic 21'
