Barkworth, Timlin join Mansfield Town

Ellis Barkworth comes in as a center back, while Michael Timlin comes in as center mid

23 July 2017

Aaron Curry

Barkworth comes in for $270,000. Timlin joins for $200,000 transfer fee.

Daniels has brought in his first and second transfer in his lineage. Earlier in the day, Harry Daniels bought Ellis Barkworth for $270,000 from Hull City and, roughly five hours after, Michael Timlin joined the team for a $200,000 fee from Southend United.

Barkworth, at 19 years of age, has promise, although there is much to work on with him. He has reportedly been promised $2,800 a week. In addition, Barkworth has been promised a spot on the bench and will be given a solid amount of playing time.

Timlin, on the other hand, was brought in for $200,000 at a value of $350,000. He has been promised a whopping $14,500 a week during his time at Mansfield Town and he will be getting first-team playing time as a starter.

Both players look to make an impression on Daniels and gain more playing time in the future. Daniels has said he plans on playing both during the upcoming game against Crewe Alexandra.

Hamilton leaves Mansfield Town for League Two side Exeter City

Daniels has sold his first player during this transfer window, just five days after he buys Barkworth and Timlin. Hamilton has been sold to Exeter City for $580,000 prior to League Two play opening up.

Daniels reports, "I enjoyed Christopher and I think he has a lot to offer, but I didn't feel that he was going to fit in my plan for Mansfield."

Hamilton leaves for Exeter City just three days before the season begins. The Stags face Hamilton and the Grecians at Field Mill on the 28th of October and away at Exeter on the 17th of February.

Match Report
Match report: Crewe Alexandra 1-3 Stags

5 August 2017

Aaron Curry

As the Stags pick up first win under Daniels, they take first in the League Two table.

Kane Hemmings led the Stags to the first win with Harry Daniels in charge. With the win against Crewe Alexandra, the Stags take the top of the league on goal differential.

Nothing was really going for the Yellows in the first half until Hemmings broke the ice and netted a goal for the first time this year. A through ball by Alex MacDonald past the backline of the Railwaymen gave Kane Hemmings open field. With much composure, Hemmings was able to chip the ball over the keeper and into the back of the net.

In the second half, the Stags kept firing on all cylinders, which produced another goal. A perfectly weighted through ball by Hemmings on the edge of the box gave Danny Rose a perfect line to shoot and score. The second goal for the Stags was shot towards the bottom left corner and the net shook with ferocity after the strike by Rose.

The home side attempted to come back after a wonderful team play allowed Chris Dagnall of Crewe to take a shot on goal. Poor goalkeeping by Conrad Logan gave the Railwaymen the goal to make the game two-to-one. They grabbed the ball and quickly took it back to the center circle to try to grab a point or possibly three from the game.

However, the Stags scored once more in the closing minutes of the game to slam the door shut on a possible comeback. After a through ball by Alfie Potter, Hemmings gave a sliding attempt at the ball and put it to the roof of the net. Hemmings' second goal of the game put the final nail in the coffin, as the Stags earned the first three points of the season.

Goals

44' - K. Hemmings (MAN) - 0-1
61' - D. Rose (MAN) - 0-2
82' - C. Dagnall (CRE) - 1-2
87' - K. Hemmings (MAN) - 1-3

Match Report
Match report: Portsmouth 1-6 Stags

8 August 2017

Aaron Curry

Three players each with a brace help the Stags move onto the Second Round of the Carabao Cup.

The Stags went to Fratton Park to face off against Portsmouth in the First Round of the Carabao Cup. In the first half of the match, neither team were able to accomplish much of anything. The two sides headed to the locker room knotted up at 0.

After halftime, in the 59th minute, after getting pulled down in the box, Danny Rose converted a penalty kick to give the Stags their first score in the Carabao Cup. Matthew Clarke unnecessarily slid into Rose, and Rose made Portsmouth pay for the error. Rose tapped it into the right-hand side of the goal to finally get the Stags onto the board.

There was no coming back for the Pompey, as the Stags got on fire after the Rose goal. After a through ball by Michael Timlin, that was then turned into a through ball by Alex MacDonald, Kane Hemmings slotted the ball between the keeper and the right post. A wonderful team play, spearheaded by Timlin, led to the simple goal for Hemmings in the 65th minute.

In the 73rd minute, Hemmings scored another after a splendid run on the left-hand side of the pitch by Rose set up a wonderfully weighted ball to a streaking Hemmings. Hemmings buried the ball into the back of the net to give the Stags a three-nil lead.

The Yellows scored within three minutes after a wonderful set of through balls. Hayden White passed to Alex MacDonald, who took the ball past midfield. Hemmings received the ball from MacDonald after getting past the backline. He took it all the way into the penalty box and hit the ball towards the other side of the box for Alfie Potter, who tapped the ball into the back of the net.

Portsmouth was able to score in the 86th minute. However, it was much too little, much too late for the home side and the goal by Christian Burgess was more for pride than for anything else.

Within a minute, the Stags pulled one back against the League One team, as Alex MacDonald swung a beauty into the box, right smack dab onto the head of Alfie Potter for his second goal of the game.

To end the game off, White made a huge run down the right-hand side which ended with a pass to Hemmings. Hemmings cut inside and made enough maneuvers to be able to slide a ball through the defense to Rose, who chipped the keeper for his second and the sixth goal of the game. The Stags will move onto the Second Round of the Carabao Cup after the demolition of Portsmouth.

Goals

59' [P] - D. Rose (MAN) - 0-1
65' - K. Hemmings (MAN) - 0-2
73' - K. Hemmings (MAN) - 0-3
77' - A. Potter (MAN) - 0-4
86' - C. Burgess (POR) - 1-4
88' - A. Potter (MAN) - 1-5
90+2' - D. Rose (MAN) - 1-6

Match Report
Match report: Stags 0-3 Forest Green Rovers

12 August 2017

Aaron Curry

Mansfield Town fall to Forest Green at home.

The match for the Stags wasn't what they were looking for, after a slap in the face was given by the Rovers. In the first half, there wasn't much to say.

Until, late in the opening half, the Rovers were able to accomplish some wonderful team play that led to a shot in the middle of the box. That, sprinkled in with poor defending by the Stags, gave the Rovers the lead in the closing minutes of the half. Isaiah Osbourne accounted for the goal, after a wonderful shot put the ball past the keeper.

In the second half, after a poor tackle by Krystian Pearce in the 68th minute, Reuben Reid was able to convert a penalty kick in the 69th minute to take the lead from one to two goals.

In the closing minutes of the match, Forest Green was able to score their third of the match after a poor clearance by the Mansfield defense. Christian Doidge, who had missed a chance just seconds prior, got set in the box and hit a banger from eight yards out. That was all she wrote, as the Rovers took a three-nil win at Field Mill against the Stags

Goals

42' - I. Osbourne (FGR) - 0-1
69' [P] - R. Reid (FGR) - 0-2
90+1' - C. Doidge (FGR) - 0-3

Update
I have decided that, in an attempt to get more out and play more, I will do monthly reports opposed to each individual match getting a report. I'll work on getting out the rest of August.

Re: Road to the Prem | Mansfield Town (FIFA 18)

Tough loss to Forest Green in league play, but huge win against Man City to continue in the Carabao Cup. That must've been a crazy game to play! Overall, good start to the season!
