West Bridgford, Nottinghamshire (AP) - Nottingham Forest turned the page to 2022 and maybe their fortunes are changing also. On Saturday afternoon the Tricky Trees defeated Barnsley 1-nil at City Ground to snap a four match winless streak.

With the departure of Lewis Grabban, the club needed someone to pick up the scoring slack and youngster Liam Delap did just that, scoring in the 11th minute. The 18-year-old was acquired this summer from Manchester City and scored his first goal for the club. The play developed as Philip Zinckernagel sent a cross into the box and Liam Delap headed it into the far corner to make it 1-nil.

Barnsley was playing a man down because Claudio Gomes was sent off in the fifth minute for a harsh tackle on Cafu.

Despite playing a man down, Barnsley was a pretty lively side. They had a few chances and their constant pressure gave Nottingham Forest fits for the majority of the match. But they could not find an equalizer and Nottingham Forest left with a much needed three points.

Barnsley (4-7-15, 19 pts) were outshot 13-8, but did manage six on target attempts to just five for Forest. Nottingham Forest's keeper, Milan Borjan, was named the Man of the Match with a rating of 7.6. He made six saves, on the eight Barnsley shots.

Philip Zinckernagel had to leave the match in the second half with a knee injury. The injury is just believed to be a sprain and he should only miss about a month of action.

Nottingham Forest (9-7-10, 34 pts) will next host Aston Villa from the Premier League on Saturday in the FA Cup third round tie.

West Bridgford, Nottinghamshire (AP) - Nottingham Forest got a late equalizer from youngster Liam Delap to force a draw with Aston Willa in their third round Emirates FA Cup tie. Delap, with a big weight on his shoulders, has scored in both of his appearances after the departure of Lewis Grabban on New Year's Day.

Aston Villa dominated the opening half, outshooting Nottingham Forest 11-3, but had nothing to show for it on the scoreboard. But in the opening moments of the second half, Danny Ings raced in and scored as he headed home his own rebound to put Villa in front 1-nil. The goal took the wind out of the sails of the home crowd, and Villa seemed destined to double their advantage as they peppered Milan Borjan with shots over the next ten minutes of so. But they could not find a second.

Liam Delap came on as a substitute in the 74th minute and just seven minutes later he found the back of the net. He took a long pass from Robert Navarro, split the defense and beat Emiliano Martinez with a shot just inside the far post. The goal was his second this week as the teams looks to replace the recently departed Lewis Grabban, who led the side with 13 goals.

Joe Lolley had a chance to put Nottingham Forest in front in added time, but his shot from just inside the six yard box was stopped by Martinez and the match ended level, forcing a replay in Birmingham.

Villa outshot Nottingham Forest 18-6 and looked the better side, but Forest was better over the final quarter hour and almost escaped with the win.

Milan Borjan won Man of the Match honors with a 7.9 match rating, making eight saves on nine shots on target.

The third round replay will take place on Wednesday evening at Villa Park in Birmingham.

Liam Delap is turning into a budding star at Nottingham Forest.

1/12/22
Aston, Birmingham (AP) - Nottingham Forest have advanced to the fourth round of the Emirates FA Cup after defeating Aston Villa 2- 1in their third round replay at Villa Park on Wednesday evening. Braian Ojeda's goal in the 76th minute put Nottingham Forest ahead for good as they knock off the Premier League side.

In the 16th minute it was new star Liam Delap who put Nottingham Forest in front. He ran onto a through ball from Brennan Johnson and struck a right footed rocket into the top left corner for his third goal in as many games to give Nottingham Forest a 1-nil advantage.

Nottingham Forest would take that lead into the half despite being dominated by Aston Villa. Villa outshot Forest 11-2 in the opening 45 minutes and outchanced them at every turn, but trailed. Their problems were compounded in the 38th minute when Matty Cash was sent off for a harsh challenge of Joe Lolley.

Just like Saturday, Aston Villa responded almost immediately after the half. Ollie Watkins took advantage of a Cafu turnover in the penalty area in the 53rd minute and hit a left footed missile past a helpless Milan Borjan to level the match at 1-1.

Manager Ninja once again made a second half substitution that made a huge impact. He brought on Braian Ojeda for Cafu in the 58th minute and in the 76th minute the move paid off. Liam Delap drew two defenders at the top of the box. He turned and passed it to Ojeda, who ran past an attempted tackle from Konsa. Ojeda dribbled into the box and went high and to the short side of Emiliano Martinez, beating him and scoring to give Nottingham Forest a 2-1 lead.

Milan Borjan would come up with a couple of big stops in the dying embers to keep Nottingham Forest in front as they prevailed. Villa outshot Forest 16-6, including 8-3 on target but it wasn't good enough as they could only beat Borjan once. Milan Borjan was named Man of the Match for the third straight match, stopping seven of eight shots on target.

Liam Delap's emergence is a huge relief for Manager Ninja after losing Grabban at the opening of the transfer window. Delap has scored in three straight matches and the youngster could be the spark that Forest needs to make a run at the top six in the Championship.

Up next for Nottingham Forest is a return to Championship play on Saturday as they will head to London to take on Millwall. Forest dropped a 3-2 decision to Millwall back in September.

FA Cup Third Round Replay Results:
Manchester City 2:4 Millwall
MK Dons 1:1 Bolton (MK Dons advanced 4-3 on penalties)
Shrewsbury 0:2 Watford
Salford 2:1 Walsall
West Bromwich Albion 3:1 Southampton

Bermondsey, South East London (AP) - Nottingham Forest and Millwall played to a rather uninspiring draw on Saturday afternoon at the Den in south London. Both sides seemed content to play for a draw after playing mid-week FA Cup replay matches.

Millwall (9-8-10, 35 pts) outshot Nottingham Forest 13-7 in the match and had the better of the chances with 4.6 expected goals on seven on target attempts. Nottingham Forest managed just one on target attempt in the match and looked frustrated by Millwall's defense.

Milan Borjan earned Man of the Match honors for the fourth consecutive match. He earned a match rating of 8.3 making seven saves on seven on target attempts. Liam Delap managed Nottingham Forest's only shot on target.

Nottingham Forest (9-8-10, 35 pts) has been in a run of stalemates as they are just (3-6-1) over their last 10 matches in all competitions. They will return home for a mid-week match with rival Derby County (5-5-17, 20 pts) who currently sit in the relegation zone in 23rd position. The two sides played to a scoreless draw back in August.

West Bridgford, Nottinghamshire (AP) - Nottingham Forest came up with a huge effort on Tuesday evening as they defeated their rivals Derby County 2-nil in the East Midland Derby. Joao Carvalho's goal in the 73rd minute broke a scoreless tie and propelled Nottingham Forest to extend thier unbeaten streak to seven matches across all competitions.

After the teams played to an entertaining scoreless opening half, Joao Carvalho broke onto the scoresheet with a tremendous individual effort in the 73rd minute. He stole the ball near midfield, raced in and beat Ryan Allsop cleanly to put Nottingham Forest in front, much to the delight of the home crowd.

Just five minutes later Alex Mighten would double the advantage racing onto a through ball from Lian Delap and unleashing a left footed rocket into the bottom right corner.

Nottingham Forest (10-8-10, 38 pts) would see it out to get back to .500 as they continue to try and claw their way back into the promotion playoff picture.

Shots in this one favored Derby County 16-10 although Nottingham Forest held a 7-6 advantage in on target attempts. Derby County, the lowest scoring team in the Championship, fell to (5-5-18, 20 pts) and they have their work cut out from them if they are to avoid relegation to League One.

Joao Carvalho earned Man of the Match honors with his game winning goal. He earned a 7.6 match rating and took eight of Nottingham Forest's ten shots.

Up next for Forest is a fourth round FA Cup tie with Cardiff City in Wales on Sunday afternoon.

Cardiff, Wales (AP) - Nottingham Forest traveled to Wales fielding their "B" side in a fourth round FA Cup tie and emerged victorious with a stunning 2-1 victory over Cardiff City on Sunday evening. Xande Silva's goal in the 81st minute broke a 1-1 stalemate and sends Nottingham Forest onto the fifth round.

Nottingham Forest has really shored up their defense as of late and they are starting to get scoring at key moments. Sunday afternoon, after a huge midweek East Midlands Derby win, Manager Ninja put out his "B" side because he felt that fresh legs were more important in this contest. It paid off.

In the 36th minute, Robert Navarro took a pass from Anass Zaroury, split the Cardiff City defense and slotted the ball into the right corner netting to put Forest ahead 1-nil. They dominated possession in the opening half, despite both sides managing four shots apiece.

Cardiff City's Marlon Pack was sent off in the 27th minute after picking up his second yellow card in the opening half an hour. That meant the hosts would have to play the final hour and change down a man.

In the 75th minute, Cardiff City substitute Hiroshi Kiyotake would take a pass from Mark Harris at the top of the box and he calmly drilled a left footed rocket past a diving Milan Borjan to level the match.

But just five minutes later, Xande Silva beat the offside trap and then beat keeper Alex Smithies to put Nottingham Forest back in front 2-1.

Mark Harris had a glorious opportunity to level the match in injury time, but his shot from inside the box sailed just over the bar and Nottingham Forest escaped with the victory.

Robert Navarro earned Man of the Match honors with a 7.3 rating. He had a goal and six shots in the match. Nottingham Forest outshot Cardiff City 17-9 and avenged an early Championship loss at home by a score of 2-nil. These two teams will play again, right back at Cardiff City Stadium on Saturday in a Championship match.
