Big North Conference Review: Week 5
By Dan Moore - ESPN BNC Blogger and Host of the Dan Moore Show September 28, 2013 - 8:00 AM ET Looking back on yesterday's action across the Big North Conference, let's look at what happened: <html><head><meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" /><link href="http://dynasties.operationsports.com/css/osdyn.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css"></head><body><table cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1" class="osdyn" width="375"><tr class="masthead_alt"><td bgcolor="#FFC800">Big North Conference Week 5 Scoreboard</td></tr><tr class="stathead"><td>Results</td></tr><tr class="oddrow"><td>Vermont State 24, #16 Alaska State 21</td></tr><tr class="evenrow"><td>Delaware College 28, Victoria State 23</td></tr><tr class="oddrow"><td>South Dakota Tech 37, Portland Tech 3</td></tr><tr class="evenrow"><td>Bismarck State 38, Manchester State 35</td></tr><tr class="oddrow"><td>Columbia State 27, Billings State 24</td></tr><tr class="evenrow"><td>Providence State 45, Vancouver State 10</td></tr></table></body></html> The big story yesterday was Vermont State bouncing back from their loss to Ole Miss with a victory over previously undefeated Alaska State at home. The Timberwolves defense held the Bears well below their averages in points, rushing yards, and total yards. Meanwhile, the Bears inability to deal with dual-threat quarterbacks finally cost them as they were unable at times to stop key runs late in the game. Another interesting game was Delaware's impressive 28-23 victory over Victoria State. Despite both teams combining for 5 turnovers, the Swedes defense, the nation's top defense, was able to withstand a late charge by the Islanders to win their third game of the season. Both teams are much improved from last season and could play spoilers for the top teams in the conference. Finally, it seems that Billings State's season is over following a tough 27-24 loss to Columbia State in a game that bot teams needed to win. With the win, the Statesmen have a chance to turn things around while the 49ers are most likely heading for their first losing season in years. Here is how everyone did for Week 4: Bismarck State - Defeated Manchester State 38-35 DE Jack Jamison - 7 Tackles (1 Solo), 2 TFL, and one sack DT Joe Yeboah - 5 Tackles (2 Solo), 4 TFL, and 2 Sacks Columbia State - Defeated Billings State 27-24 QB Patrick Parks - 24 of 32 for 306 yards and 2 interceptions. Also had 9 carries for 8 yards HB D.J.
