I guess profitable enough is what I was implying. There is no world in which EA cuts their soccer or Madden products from development, no matter what kind of corporate pivot or efficiency drive is in vogue at the time.

That's just not true. But no sense going down a rabbit hole neither one of us can prove since we don't work for EA.

Yup, it won’t be until 2k drops hb until the game will see a major upgrade. I think that writing is on the wall with hiring guys from EA. Only a matter of when HB’s and 2k’s contract is up.

We'll see how this turns out but I think EA has put as much of their input into this game that I can stand. Hopefully these shot types don't ruin the game.

The guys from EA were working on Frostbite, an engine exclusive to EA. As long as they're working on this Unity game engine, it won't make much difference.

Well, kind of funny and I'm kind of happy that my silly post got this final discussion going haha.

(not that I'm saying it is, just gallows humor here)

Sad how this game couldn't get updates beyond Year 1.5. I was hoping they'd gradually keep adding courses over time, maybe make some subtle fixes to the underlying gameplay. Even if we had to pay for the courses, I would have kept investing.

I played a lot of Rory, though, back on the PS4, and to me this game was only a minor half-step improvement. Too much of the same, so I guess I was a little burnt out on it. Didn't sink nearly the amount of hours as I thought I might.

Not at all surprised, though. EA met my expectations there with a one-off. Maybe we'll get a game on the PS6 in ten years.

I have not deleted it from my console yet. Once the masters rolls around, I’ll get that itch to play Augusta.

I've more or less said my peace about the mechanics of this game in this thread, but the game is not "bad" at all. It's fine. It's a solid 6/10 for a golf game, which, for an initial attempt using a barely-changed 10 year old game as a base, is about as good as it gets.

EA tried to do the minimum possible to get a golf game out there, and the result showed that. I can recommend this game without reservation for $5-10, but that's about it, especially now that it's abandonware (I paid full price at launch for what it's worth). It's fun for about 1-2 seasons, and the fact that the majority of actual tour stops, with the actual sponsors of the tournaments, are in the game make it particularly fun to go through a season - for a while, anyway.

That having been said, I doubt EA ever tries to do golf ever again. They tried as a 1-off on the last gen, they tried as 1-off on this gen, and I doubt they'll consider a 3rd attempt. It seems pretty clear that whatever internal metrics EA requires to invest in a game, or whatever priorities they have, golf just isn't cutting it.

I haven't deleted it either, actually. I played the 2K demo and had a bit of fun. If I pick that game up on sale, maybe I finally delete the EA version, but I guess 2K won't have the Masters - at least not licensed. It's nice they got the other majors.

In fact, the Masters is where I think I stopped playing. Something like Year 3 of my career.
