NCAA Football 10 Interview (Gamespot)

Gamespot has posted an interview with Ben Haumiller, Designer of NCAA Football 10.

Quote:

Gamespot: "If I recruit a huge Defensive Tackle to clog the middle, will other teams be inclined to run more sweeps and avoid taking that DT on? Will users be able to finally create defensive minded squads to combat the onslaught of offense we've seen for the past few seasons?"

Ben: "With the addition of adaptive AI, you're actually going to see the teams adjust to your personnel and adjust to what you're doing. So, [if] you're going to have a big space either up the middle, that's clogging up the middle, they are going to run some plays that will be more effective for them. And, virtually, if you're on offence and you're running the same route that's killing them every time, they're going to adjust to that and do things to try and shut down that route."

Very nice, thanks a lot steve.

Will NCAA 10 have progressive lighting... like there was in NCAA 07? (Submitted by Olsor)

"Progressive lighting is back, yes."

Steve beat me to it.

based on one of his answers it seem adaptive AI also helps out CPU offense. which is great.

"Progressive lighting is back, yes.":woot: nice to finally get it confirmed. :google:

Great article, I was most intrigued by the possible future inclusion of penalties, and giving players stuff under the table and facing penalties for it.

Has anyone noticed the fields are actually angled like a real field so rain water will flow off the sidelines?

Progressive lighting is back! I like it.

The adaptive CPU AI is definitely needed is another welcome addition. I hope that means the infamous cement-footed QBs won't be running the QB Read and Choice plays and keeping it 12 times a game. LOL

I really like the fact they added a LOT of new tackle animations. I just hope they got rid of the 2 or 3 lame WWE style big hit tackles.

Will we be able to convert Online Dynasty from 09 to 10? (Submitted by MrM3th0d)

"That's not something that we can [do yet]. It's on my list of things to add and just not hasn't made it in yet."

In a blog last week this was said to be possible

you can do it with TeamBuilder by recreating your team from your OD.

it worked pretty good in NCAA '07(360) and '08(PS3/360), but I've never play MLB 09: The Show so I can't compare it.

hmmmm....this is the same guy in the infamous YouTube interview last year that said "defense wasn't dumbed down in '09 despite WOG" That was a flat out lie.

The only thing I will from this is progressive lightinjg is back b/c that is not a subjective thing.

I gope so, but based on this info, I don't see anything that puts NCAA ahead of Madden IMO. And I'm much more of a college football fan, so I hope NCAA is back to being fun again.

IF this stuff pans out, this game may retire me from APF.

When the quarterback drops back to pass can you see the entire field? Especially, the flats because I'm tired of throwing to my 'rb' or 'wr' in the flats, and not knowing that the cornerback stayed in the flat playing zone and he picks the ball off. (Submitted by GrndHard14)

"Cameras have been redone this year... If you have all the receivers on one side of the field, or a majority of them on one side, you'll be able to see more of that side of the field, the camera kind of tilts that way. So, it does dynamically update based on where the players are on the field, so that you will be able to see those players in the flats."
This seems like a catch-22...sure the camera will show the side of the field more players are on but there will still be at least one player in the flats barely in view - it doesn't seem to solve the problem.

Yea seems like we will just have to see how this plays out. I too automatically take the pessimistic view on new features in these games (sad as that is). I hope it improves things though!

caseym12 05-05-2009 10:32 PM

I have a great idea, forget all the neat little features, give us a game that plays as close to life as a football game can, Forget the teambuilder, the lighting effects, just make a game that is fun to play ON the FIELD, again, ON the FIELD.

It's so sad how much better the game looked with Progressive Lighting like 2-3 years ago...

would you be happy if the game play was incredible but we only had say a quarter of the FBS teams to choose from?
