FIFA 16 Available Today, Post Your Impressions

FIFA 16 is available today for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. Play a few matches and let us know what you think.

Definitely excited to pick up the game today.

I played the FUT draft Demi last night and for the first time it stood out to me the lack of player individuality. I was able to get Ronaldo but as the game progressed I actually forgot he was on my team! I didn't remember until the game was over.

This is definitely a FIFA year for me...and PES has its own faults...but they did a much better job bringing players to life.

Re: FIFA 16 Available Today, Post Your Impressions

I'm enjoying FIFA 16 so far. I used up my full trial, so I got up early this morning to put in a few games before work. The opposing team does a good job of pressing and working the ball, even on Professional.

I've seen a good variety of goals. I was playing Arsenal v Stoke this morning (I was Arsenal) and had Stoke down 2-1 in the 70th minute. They brought in Crouch as a sub and he scored a header from a corner on me with about 10 minutes to go. I ended up getting Sanchez on the break and he scored a goal in the top right corner over a diving Butland to win it in extra time.

I still think that the rest of my team is kind of non-existent defensively. While I think they have improved how the CPU teammates get into offensive positions and make moves to help with goals, I still think there is a defensive issue with the game.

It can seem that way at first, but try this: when defending don't switch off until your opponent actually completes the next pass. What I've been seeing is a lot of guys switch defenders so quickly, they negate a pass intercept by their own player. Another thing is individual tactics. There's a player instruction for aggressively intercepting ground passes. This also works wonders. The tools are there this year to play stout defense, I promise lol.

Props to you for being able to score on Butland, LOL. He was brilliant vs Arsenal 2 weeks ago as I'm sure you saw.

Re: FIFA 16 Available Today, Post Your Impressions

As I already posted in the sliders section this is the best football game since WE9 LE and the first football game from EA.
Positives:
+ CPU AI is the best I've seen in a football videogame. There's finally build-up play, cpu stops and looks for the open teammate, they switch sides, shoot from outside etc. Yes, the "chase the ball" AI coding could be frustrating for casual gamers (and as I see from many reviews there are already big complaints) but if you play smart and patient defense you're rewarded. I managed to keep Arsenal on WC difficulty at 82% passing accuracy but is inevitable that some mediocre teams will have high pass accuracy. As I said some days earlier I certainly prefer this kind of CPU AI instead of the nonsense full attack mentality and psychic dribbling.
+ GK are a joy to watch.
+ Fouls, fouls everywhere.
+ CPU defensive awareness is drastically improved.
+ Commentary, presentation are superb.
+ Teammates defensive AI is improved but EA needs to work more on it. You still need to do plenty of "babysitting". The game is only playable with Legacy Defending if you want to play off-ball D.

Negatives:
- Goalkeepers sometimes kick the ball to the midfield very quickly. They have to wait for teammates to take their positions on the pitch and EA must fix this issue.
- Tactical Defending is still a joke because you can't pressure and go for the ball with the teammates. You just contain or send teammates to contain. The improved AI coding makes things even worse. The simple fix is to use Legacy offline. You can freely contain, your teammates automatically contain and you can send them battle for the ball with the pressure button.
- We need more team individuality. There is a major improvement though and many teams play differently but in that department football videogames devs still have a long way to go.

That's all for now. I haven't tested MM yet and I'm a strictly offline player.
Judging from the reviews and players reactions EA will have a tough time. The game has definitely moved away from casual gamers. :headbang2

This is true. There have been times where I noticed that I prevented someone from making an interception. Defense is definitely better this year as my CPU teammates actually do play defense and don't just stand around gawking.

Now, I wish there was a way to make everyone press and try to dispossess the ball handler when they are in the final attacking third.

The answer is Legacy Defending. See my post above.

Yeah I go back & forth between tactical & legacy defending because of this.

For the first time in a while I actually have confidence in my CPU AI teammates when defending. So much so that I'm flirting with changing my switch settings.

Wow. I've been buying FIFA since FIFA 11. This is the best one yet. No more sprinting by players on wing to get easy goals. Total football has arrived. Midfield play is there, and in 2 games, my score lines have been 1-0, and 0-0. Both on world class with 10 minute halves.

Got a chance to play a little bit before work this morning, and damn, it's so nice to play longer matches than the demo.

Best part? Tactics, formations, and instructions totally work and really do change how teams play. Yes!

Re: FIFA 16 Available Today, Post Your Impressions

I was completely done with EA and FIFA after 15. there was so much wrong with that game, no amount of tweaking or modding made it playable. After I got PES last week I really thought FIFA was dead in the water. I got the early access version a couple of days ago and was so pleasantly surprised.

This is the best FIFA in a long time, and I've played them all. They've adressed a lot of the major flaws from last year. I love how it rewards you for actually thinking about what you're doing. It's more about strategy than reflex. It's like going from COD to Battlefield, you have to be good to be good, if that make sense. The new defensive system feels great, and having a good midfield is actually something that'll make a difference on the pitch. In fact, a lot of things now make differences on the pitch, where they were superfluous before. For,actions, tactics, subs, all have a tangible effect on the game.

There are a few things that need addressing. So far manual passing, and goalies catching a lot of impossible balls instead of parrying. Other than that it's a great game. I just hope EA doesn't bow to the YouTube pack jockeys that are complain that it's too sim like. Overall, Ill need a few months before making a final judgement on what football game is king of the pitch this year, but two great games in one year is something truly to be grateful for.

I don't usually trade in games but I traded in FIFA 15 today and got $5.20. What a disgrace! If I knew you got so little for it I would have just given it away to someone.

Legacy defending is cheap. In real soccer, at least skilled soccer, 4 guys don't go after the ball carrier because it would leave three guys open and they would be found through simple one-touch passes.

FIFA needs to get rid of this.

Hoping to nail down a few basic ones tonight. Might be tougher with a spreadsheet this year, as instructions for each position need to be listed.

But I have some plans, and I think it'll all go very well.

Anyone play offline.

I've only played 2 games, Benfica [me] vs Chelsea and Bilbao [me] vs Real Madrid and there were a total of ZERO shots from outside the box.

Anyone actually experience the CPU take shots from outside the box?

I've had Cazorla, Lampard, Hernanes (Inter), Ross Barkley, and a few others take them.

It seems like it's tied to either a long range shooting trait OR a certain rating threshold in shooting.

Haven't figured it out yet BUT I do agree with you that it's lacking overall.

Wish there was a slider for it. But the fact that you've seen it is good.

I havent played much, obviously only the 2 games, but if PES had the licensing and wasn't so 'hard' to pull off moves, FIFA would be forgotten.

That being said, I will put many more hours into FIFA and HOPEFULLY I eat my words lol

There's a team tactic for it actually but I THINK (not sure yet as it takes a lot of time to figure these things out) player traits override it.

I'm sure Krebstar and others in the Custom Team Tactics will get to the bottom of it.

You have to lower the CPU shot error to a value somewhere between 20-30 to see the CPU take shots outside the box. Give it a try.

The CPU will still have plenty of shots that are off target and you'll see some shots outside the box.

FIFA needs to get rid of this.

It's about making your cpu controlled teammates active and bringing them into the action when needed. With the regular defending, they just sit back and don't do enough, especially if you play off the ball. It needs to be used in moderation, and you can pay for over using it or using it at the incorrect time.

More options are better, as we are unique as individuals and have different thoughts on what may work best. No way they should get rid of any option, but I am on the other side of the coin in that I can't play with the regular defending as it isn't good enough.

I've seen tons of shots from outside or on the edge of the box. To me this is a much improved aspect of the game.

There is one available already, should have all the transfers done. I noticed Halilovic was at Sporting. If you already did the roster update then ignore this. I didn't look too much into the BPL

I had Shaqiri from Stoke drill one in from about 10 feet out of the box on me. It was an absolute rocket too.

I've been enjoying this game much more than I ever did with the past two editions. I have complaints, but I personally feel this is the best FIFA in a good while. Plan on playing with default settings until it becomes too easy (or too hard), then using the good ole community sliders.

I've played 3 consecutive games against Norwich, Swansea and Crystal Palace. Many shots outside the box and for a while I thought that this needs to be toned down.
I haven't tried other leagues but BPL is a joy to play. Each of these teams had also their unique attacking approach.

So, the general rule of them is that the AI no longer tries to walk it in, and even when it does, it does not pass it around?

In fifteen women's matches and twenty men's I have yet to have them pass the ball around inside the box. Maybe a one pass to a shot.

They shoot early and often! From anywhere and everywhere. This does change depending who you play. But you see long crosses from mid field flying in for forwards. You see players shoot from wide and for me a lot of out side the box shots. I tend to drop back to prevent someone getting behind me and they shoot from outside a lot!

In my opinion the shooting issue from the demo is also gone. I have not seen finesse shots unless I used the R1.

Literally the best football game ever made. I love PES and am not a FIFA fangirl. This game is purely wonderful. Not perfect... but very good football.
