    Coaching Diary of Tyler Franks (NCAA 14/CFB Revamped)

    ========================
    The Coaching Diary of Tyler Franks
    ========================

    The Story:
    Let me start this off by saying it's been awhile since I have tried doing a dynasty story on here. With the release of CFB Revamped and how it looks and feels made me wanna boot this up and give everything I have to a diary.

    We will be following the career of Tyler Franks. He was a fantastic coach in High School from 2011-2020 before he took a step away from football due to COVID. After talking to his family, he decided he wanted to see if he would be able to find a job in the collegiate world. He put out so many feelers to different universities with no luck. Just as Franks was about to hang up the headset for good and not worry about football, he received a phone call.

    Hey Coach Franks! This is Coach Curt Cignetti here at James Madison University. We received your resume and we would love if you could give us a try and be our offensive coordinator the upcoming season. We sent over paperwork for you to look at. They told me they would only offer you a 1 year contract for now to see how you perform and we can go from there. Who knows, this might get your foot in the door of collegiate coaching and get job offers later down the road!

    Just like that Coach Franks was on his way to Harrisonburg, Virginia to be the OC for the Dukes of James Madison

    2022 PRESEASON
    JMU STAFF MEETING

    Coach Cignetti and Jeff Bourne called a football staff meeting to discuss the upcoming season and some changes that will be happening to College Football this season. I can only assume we will finally get information on our football schedule so we can get to work on prepping our kids for the games to come.

    It's been about a month since I was hired for the position of OC at JMU. I got to have a meeting with the offensive players and get to know them and get their feedback on what they feel their strengths are. After a long discussion, I decided we would be running a SPREAD system in order to disguise some cool stuff I had up my sleeve.

    STAFF MEETING
    Coach Cignetti and Jeff Bourne had us in the meeting room to layout our team schedule and some changes taking place within College Football:

        My offensive squad had issues early on in the game. I tried to make sure they didn't seem down or upset about how the game was going. I told them it's the first game of the year and they need to shake the jitters out and go out and make plays. We had success with running the ball in the 2nd quarter with Agyei-Obese able to break tackles and burst through some open holes.

        Noah Turner fumbled the ball on the goal line on a possession after we forced an interception. He came back to the sidelines upset and defeated. I slapped his helmet and told him to keep his head up because there was a lot of football left. He went back out there and made some big catches.

        Todd Centeio is a huge threat for us in the passing game and the running game. He has a set of wheels like no other QB in the country. Our only problem we had that we can correct, he wasn't making correct reads on option plays which led to him taking unnecessary huge hits.

        Overall we had a very decent game and we had our defensive side give us the comfort room we needed to play at our pace. We're going to hit the film room on Monday to start preparing for the blue turf!!!

            This job is starting to give me some lighter colored hair! We didn't have a great game overall on offense in my opinion. We couldn't get anything going with Percy, and he gave everything he had out there on the field. We were having success with everyone else running the ball than we were when we handed it to Percy. He's frustrated and it's understandable. Blocking assignments would break down every time he got the ball. We had to go with what worked and that was giving the ball to our receivers on end arounds and Centeio keeping it on option plays.

            We had to play from behind for most of the game. We wasn't able to take a lead until the 4th Quarter and that was due to some luck on our side. It seemed like every time we got within striking distance, they would completely pick the defense apart and go up more. Our defense was able to grab a SAFETY on them when they went up from 21 all and we got within 5 points. I sent Todd out on a mission to throw up a deep bomb, which we haven't done up until this point this season. Any long passes was thrown short and got a huge gain. So Todd went out and said challenge accepted and threw it up and found Thornton for 52 yards to send us to a lead that would make us feel better about the game.

            Our work wasn't over yet though, they would take the lead back after being able to kick a field goal to go up by 2 points. I told my squad that we wasn't going to settle for the game winning field goal. We wanted to send a message and wanted to show we can score touchdowns in crucial situations. We pulled everything out we could for this drive and ended up with the game winning touchdown and a 35-31 win!!!

            I still feel bad for Percy not being able to get anything going on the ground, but I'm sure he will bounce back against Virginia Tech. I'm hoping EVERYONE will bounce back for Virginia Tech.

                I knew this would be a challenge for my offense. It's our toughest test of the year against an ACC powerhouse in Virginia Tech. They ran a similar offense I did so I figured the defense would have trouble giving us backup. We had problems getting going early, but we were able to strike first early in the game which was nice. Being able to have a 7-0 lead for a while helped a lot on the sidelines with getting the players fired up.

                Our defense played lights out and gave us plenty of opportunities to drive the ball to score, but we just couldn't take advantage of the gifts we were given. Last week Percy was getting shut down in the running game, this week Centeio couldn't get anything going. He made several bad reads on option plays and took unnecessary hits. We'll have to work on that, I'm going to need him to stay healthy for this season.

                Went into halftime tied at 7-7 and we were fired up. I told my offense we need to hope that Tech didn't score so we could get up and play with a lead instead of playing from behind. Not all plans are good ones, as Tech scored and took at 14-7 lead on us but we were able to tie it back up going into the 4th Quarter.

                At this point the whole sideline was fired up, this was a great game. They entire stadium was in it..we were about to witness a special finish. I had told Todd to take us to overtime but Coach came up to me and said "LETS TAKE A SHOT DOWN FIELD" so we drew up a play with about :10 left in the game and we allowed Todd to sling it downfield and to everyone's surprise had Ravenel wide open in the endzone to give us a 21-14 lead with just 3 seconds left in the game. The entire sideline was fired up, gatorade was going everywhere, the crowd was so loud that I couldn't hear anyone trying to speak to me. We just pulled out what I considered an upset over the Hokies of Virginia Tech....something to celebrate but we need to forget this fast because anything can happen in College Football.

                      2022 SEASON
                      WEEK 5 VS. COASTAL CAROLINA

                      This one hurt a lot. I tried my best to call the plays I thought would put us in position to win, but in the end it wasn't enough. First loss of the season stings, but we need to keep our heads up and bounce back from this. We didn't play bad, we just got outplayed on both sides of the ball. I told my offensive squad they did everything right and it was out of our hands.

                      Centeio caught a lot of slack on that last drive of the game when we was trying to tie the game to go into OT. We got put in a 4th & 15 and Centeio scrambled out of the pocket and ended up throwing it away, he instantly showed regret as he realized it was 4th down and he just iced the game for Coastal Carolina.

                      My hat off to their defense, they had my every move calculated and kept our offense in a panic. We're going to hit the film room and try to get everyone back on the same page on offense and bounce back and get back into the W column next week.

                              WEEK 7 @ OLD DOMINION

                              One of the toughest squads all around I have ever seen. This offense had to claw its way all the way through the game and was able to put us on top towards the end to secure this hard fought W. I have to tip my hat off to the defensive side of our team for the effort they gave in the 2nd half to allow my offense to get us back into the game. Without them, we wouldn't of been able to get anything going.

                              Todd didn't have a very good day passing the ball, we moved the ball through the air but a lot of miscues and horrible missed passes. Our running game is what got us back in this game. We almost had three rushers go for 100 yards. We love to give everyone an opportunity to touch the ball and get some production going. We pushed hard and coming out with a 1 Point win is something that will help us rebuild momentum going forward. We gotta keep the celebration to a minimum, still a lot of season left for my offense to keep focus on.
