online franchise do i need gold

can not get online. keeps asking me to buy gold or game pass to go online. do i need to do this or is something wrong?

Online play in Madden NFL 23 - along with every other Madden game published for Gen-4 and Gen-5 consoles - requires a subscription to either XBOX Live or PlayStation Plus, respectively.
