2K has lost focus with the soundtrack for years

I know I don’t speak for everybody but I would argue it is an older crowd playing this game and I would do anything if we could get some real music back in this series again.

And even if they would just appeal to just everybody and play a little bit of everything in different genresI would be happy. I just thank God I can play my own music in the background on my ps5. No disrespect to the young fans who love the current, but the music I’m hearing is just pollution too my ears.

I thought NBA 2K14 was a good example of how you do soundtrack correctly. Throw in a little rock ‘n’ roll, throwing a couple of 80s hits and even in the 90s and then some of the modern for the youngsters. Since then…. Forced to listen to garbage.

Definitely not an “older crowd” playing this game.

I’d say the majority of people who own this game are exactly who this music is catered too

As a fellow old person, I say this with respect, but that line is one of the most stereotypically old person things you could have possibly said, haha.

I'll contribute with my own old person take: I hate subscription services so I've steered clear of Spotify for a while. Once I finally signed up for the free account, that ended my concern for the 2K soundtrack. I just turn the game's menu music all the way down and use my Spotify.

As it pertains to the soundtrack itself, I presume they're hitting their demographic. 2K is the big dawg now, so with that comes big time popular tracks. Those indie vibe days of yore (back when 2K had Team Hieroglyphics as a playable squad) are gone and likely never coming back. They're the evolutionary NBA Live now in that regard, which I don't mean in a bad way. It's just, Live was always the game with the "hot" tracks back then (Fabolous, Joe Budden, Jermaine Dupri, etc.) and that's how 2K gets down now.

I will say, what I do miss is the customizable soundtrack. I'm not sure I would have figured 2K12 would be the pinnacle for in-game audio-customization. Crazy how we once could assign custom jump-ball music, walk-up music, intro music, individual scoring sound effects, etc.

Soundtrack is pretty good but repetitive. They always pick a good house/EDM/whatever you want to call it track as their one representation of the genre. This year it’s some Brazilian type track that’s kinda long and trippy. I like songs in 2K that I don’t hear outside of 2K. It adds to the vibe. Popular/played out tracks get too redundant. There were some tracks in 21 and 22 that I wish could port over to this years soundtrack.

I think you’d be surprised how many dads are here over the age of 40. I would be interested in seeing a post on here seeing everyone’s ages just for kicks.

I’m not saying there’s more of us I’m just saying that there is a lot of us. I’m 47 btw. I like a variety. I’m pretty lenient but I honestly don’t enjoy a single song this year. 17 was pretty modern and I actually enjoyed that one.

            I like the soundtrack…

Like always, it’s put me on to some new artists and after the Season 2 update, now has some absolute bangers from the 2000’s

Fact is though, Its going to have more new than old school music. So I can’t say they lost focus, We just have to come to grips with who the demo is.

Not everyone that plays the game posts on this forum though, so that wouldn't really tell you much. I'd bet money that the percentage of older players that post here is higher than the percentage of the younger players that post here. I'm in the older group and I liked the 17 and 18 soundtracks, but for me, personally, the soundtracks have gotten less appealing each season. This year's soundtrack is pretty good though.

First thing I always do is turn the music off. Just my opinion but I don’t think sports video games need a soundtrack.

This forum is not reflective of the larger 2k population.

By catering the soundtrack to a younger crowd, I would argue the opposite of the thread title and say that the sound track is focused.

2k Knows who their target demographic is. They gave us older players myEras but that was done moreso out of the development team's own passion for the sport. The bread and butter for this game is the younger myPlayer crowd

another fellow old person here....it's just odd that we are forced to listen to the soundtrack that comes with the game in this day and age, but it is what it is, i guess. at least give us some variety and some options. was thinking the customizable music options (like in 2k12) would be PERFECT for the mynba eras franchise mode to match the look and presentation of those decades.

I stand to be corrected but I thought I heard some time ago that there were either copyright concerns or each brand made efforts during the 360/XBone/PS4 switchover to limit custom music to placate pay-to-listen apps.

But yeah, strange to move so far backward on this.

2K has the best soundtrack in any sports game imo. But just for the simple fact they update it throughout the season and there is so many songs. The same 20 some songs on Madden/The Show will inevitably start getting on my nerves about half way the thru the yearly cycle.

I turn it off, every year.

I'm in my 40's, and there's not a single track that caters for my personal tastes.

A bit of late 90's early 00's Trance wouldn't go a miss. Or some metal.

I'm 31. There are a few soundtracks I've really liked from 2k but I'm definitely not a modern rap person.

2k10 has my favorite NBA game soundtrack to this day. I thought 2k10-2k17 always had at least something I liked.
I'm not very partial to lyrics I can't understand.

Kinda how I feel. I guess we can all agree that we all have different tastes of music. We can't please us all. I would argue that 2k11 still to this day has the best soundtrack. I still have it on my playlist and I play it when I work out. I don't think I could say that for any other NBA 2K.
