Hi guys,

So I've been working on this recently as I prepare to bring my Legends Sports Universe Hockey League to the PS5.

This is still a work in progress, but I hope to have V1 up today and will post on my Facebook page when it's up.

The NHL Historic Ratings Generator is designed to provide ratings for more than 2300 historic players from 1967 to present to aid in the development of historic and alltime rosters. You simply enter the player's name, the number of seasons he played (I'm trying to automate that) and the number of fights he had in his career (solely for the fighting rating) and it will provide you ratings for that player based on their career performance, including suggested zone and skill abilities.

Ratings are based on a collection of factors, largely using hockey-reference's Point Shares as a base and working off that utilizing per game ratios. For players are 2006, more detailed stats are added to equation such as hits, blocked shots, faceoff % and more.

For now, this is just skaters, but I'm working on a goalie sheet as well.

I posted a quick video about the project on the Legends Sports Universe YouTube channel and will post a more detailed one after release there and on the Legends Sports Universe Facebook page.

Hopefully, this will aid in the speed of project development for anyone interested in developing rosters down the line. It is NOT perfect, and even though I've done roster development for more than 20 years I will always maintain that if you feel you KNOW something is incorrect, change it! It's your game!

hello

i try to initialize a roster project 1976. i seek co workers and i developed a system to calculate overall ratings for the historic players. only the overall ratings and some player data...look....can we colaborate? here a few examples

Messed around with the generator, it's pretty cool. However, Dave Keon is rated 79...HOF, named greatest Leaf of All Time...doesn't deserve to be rated lower than Nik Antropov :P

There's a bunch of subjective attributes that I think could have caused this effect, namely shot power/accuracy, defensive awareness etc etc.

But honestly, most of the names I punched in were well attributed, kudos on a cool system!

I wish you luck with your project, but I'll respectfully pass, as any time I've worked on roster collaboration with anyone it's turned into a nightmare for me. That's nothing personal toward you or your project at all, just past experience. Good luck!

Appreciate you checking it out and the feedback. I'm glad you see most as guys as being well rated...While single player feedback generally doesn't impact me much, as I'm more concerned about trends (single players a user can fix...trends are something I'd want to try to fix in the sheet), Keon's case is one that demonstrates a limitation of the setup as it stands at the moment and I'm not sure it's one I'll be able to rectify in short order.

Because the player pool is based on data from what hockey-reference classifies as the Modern Era (1967-present), Keon loses his first seven seasons - 7 very productive seasons. That drags him down significantly.

My worry about going back before the modern era was a really limited stat record and also, because so much of the formulas are based on a player's per game rank in a given stat or set of stats, diluting the pool to the point where too many solid players got treated as great players.

But anybody who runs cross-era like Keon may pay a price for that. I need to check the sheet and see how many guys fit into that category and see if I can perhaps manually adjust those guys' data.

For example, with Keon...if I enter his full real stats into the data sheet, he boosts up to an 85, a figure brought down by his low physical ratings which are hindered by his low PIM and low defensive point shares. His offensive ratings are very solid once his full stat record is entered.
