Not sure but it might be in the rule changes in the off season. I think you can customize rules starting a franchise as well.

Yes you can. But you might only be able to make it 5 seconds.

I hate that rule. Why artificially make scoring easier in the paint rather than allow players to exploit the toughness and skill needed to score in packed paints, which in turn also created much more impressive posters and highlights.

There’s a video of Jokic recently backing down Lillard (already a hilariously easy mismatch), then sees Nurkic sitting in the paint waiting for him, and instead of taking on the task of scoring ON Nurkic, he literally waves Nurkic off! He waves to the ref signaling 3 second violation, which forces Nurkic out of the paint on the weak side, then Jokic plows in for an easy uncontested layup. Ridiculous. And we wonder why teams are averaging nearly 120 points this season.

You definitely can. When you start a new MyEra's or franchise, it'll run you through a section of things you can control. As long as you select it you'll be able to adjust all the rules: Draft picks, Play-in Tournament, Realign the conference, Def in the key, Overtime rules, etc.

They nearly accomplished the same thing in the 80s WITHOUT the def. 3 second rule and they didn't even shoot or have to guard 3's at that point. They nearly accomplished it in the 60's too and they didn't even have a 3pt line lol it never stopped anyone from scoring. And let's not pretend in the 90s every player was deliberately trying to set the defense up to be called for Illegal Defense and when they were in violation the players were jumping and pointing to the ref so it would be called lol.

What defensive 5 seconds in the key? There was no defensive 5 seconds, and if there was I never heard of or saw it called once. And 5 is much different than 3.

“Illegal defense” isn’t a specific rule. Today there’s a plethora of things that are illegal defense. They just made a new take foul illegal defense rule. In the 90’s illegal defense was if a player doubled on the strong side, above the Ft line *off ball*, which was easily manipulated and gotten away with as you were allowed to commit to doubling on ball and refs gave tons of leeway as to how far you can get from your man. So players would just shadow guard both players in a zone and then commit to a double or run back to their man before the foul is called (easier to get away with that 3 second violation). Essentially exactly how defense plays today.

What you never saw was Hakeem in the paint, Shaq backing down Kenny Smith then waving Hakeem out by signaling 3 seconds, clearing a path for himself.
