Artificial intelligence is the new wave except in Madden?

The whole world is geekin of this new AI technology of humans you mean to tell me Madden can't advance AI in a video game

The tech is too advanced we gave EA a pass for years and now we are front in center of AI

Madden your definitely on the clock ⏰

With how it's blowing up I'll be surprised if there isn't some hint of this in Madden 25. 24's almost certainly too far along to catch this wave.

    Certainly a lot of possibilities.

They should incorporate tech like MidJourney to generate rookie faces so that each is unique. Same for assistant coaches.

Tech similar to ChatGP could be used to generate articles and rookie scouting reports so that each is unique. These seem like minor things but would greatly enhance the replayability of CFM.

Honestly, I'd expect 2k to implement this stuff (if they haven't already) before EA.

Yeah eventually the commentators will be given personality's and react in real time to the gameplay. I watched a 60 Minutes segment recently of Robots that were told the rules of Soccer, then started to learn the game and eventually taught themselves how to pass and play goalie. Videogames are gonna be a lot different in about a decade.

Because getting AI into a video game is the biggest current concern around the arrival of AI. Calm down.

We can debate the ethics of AI all we want, but all of my friends wholeheartedly agree about the hype for it around video games. NPC's, CPU gameplay, commentary and presentation, etc. Super stoked to see this tech be implemented down the line

Gonna need to see execs of AAA companies actually care about their products before we see them implementing stuff like this. There's plenty of things that Activision, EA, etc. don't put it into games and it's not because it isn't possible, it's because it cuts into profits. For all of these major companies there isn't a desire to make the best games and I think that's why we won't see any of this stuff any time soon.

I could see a game like Maximum Football using this stuff before Madden. Their players will still morph all over the field lol but the scouting reports and announcer lines will be unique.

Re: Artificial intelligence is the new wave except in Madden?

I am pretty sure that ChatGPT, Stable Diffusion, and other similar content-generating AI solutions currently available necessarily take ownership of any input data they receive as to continuously train their models and generate better output. I'm not sure if Electronic Arts is going to be on-board with giving up ownership of their content in that matter. I know that other major corporations — admittedly not video game companies — have instructed their employees to never under any circumstances touch AI tools in their current form.

There's also the issue of name, image, and likeness rights. It's not immediately clear whether EA has the rights to use, say, the voice recordings of Brandon Gaudin and Charles Davis to generate AI-recorded lines in their respective voices. Typically that has to be negotiated into voice acting contracts separately. Perhaps their contracts allow EA to use their voices for any reason into perpetuity to generate new audio at will, but we don't know that, and I doubt AI content generation was specifically discussed when Gaudin and Davis originally signed on with Madden in 2016.

Finally, there's the ethical issue of using AI to generate creative content at all. The sentiment I have gathered from actual game developers and artists on social media is that the use of AI to generate new content — as opposed to paying human beings to produce that content — is wildly unpopular from a moral standpoint. I assume major corporations, which tend to act amorally in pure pursuit of profit, aren't going to care much about this; Activision has already committed to using AI to generate content. However, EA has in the past at least paid lip service to hot-button social issues in their games, notably with their Positive Play campaign, inclusion of in-game accessibility features, and the front-and-center promotion of women's sports in FIFA specifically, so it would not be entirely unexpected if they said "no" to AI on moral grounds here to try and win some internet points.

I'm with you on the first paragraph.

Not sure though why you think a game already working with very limited budget would be able to (or want to) pay for something like AI.

I'm not real sure how I feel about that lol. I'm just being honest. I'm probably bowing out at that point.

Those things would be incredible. It would certainly go a long way to enhancing the depth of franchise for sure.

I expect that people here are really over-estimating what's going to be possible to do in real time, on a console, in a way that doesn't cost EA or consumers whole boatloads of money.

ChatGPT currently costs about 3/4ths of a million dollars per day to operate, and that's before you're talking about loading it up with millions of Madden players trying to use it all at once. Never mind that by the time you got new commentary generated for a user and then voice synthesized, it would be past the point you need it. The cost for EA to utilize the CGPT API to do that would likely cost them hundreds of dollars per player per year.

Games have been using procedurally generated content for decades at this point. At the very least it wouldn’t be that difficult to cultivate news stories in a text portion of a game

Nobody is saying the game will “ask chatgpt to write a free agency story” in real time. It’s about using the fresh technology in a way that supports what the product already does

I would be cool with AI being used to generate player names. Also if team customization ever came back to be able to say custom team names.
