I had a grand ol' time going back through just one of these old threads (and not even close to every page and 3,700+ posts!)

    So many gems in there.
I won't ask for Christmas or birthday gifts if you subscribe to the Operation Sports Newsletter (Not Just Another Roster Update). I write it, and it hits your inbox every Friday morning (for freeeeeee). We also have an official OS Discord you can now join.

I’ll always remember for NCAA 06, someone saying that they got an early copy from a store in Bowling Green. I had no idea where the hell Bowling Green was, but I was trying to find a way there as a 16 year old with no money and no car. Couldn’t be that far from Arizona, right?

I know about that store, in fact I helped Fairdale Kings get the game several times earlier so we all here at OS could all have named rosters pretty close to when the game dropped.

Fairdale or myself could have contributed a few great stories to this article !

Bowling Green was a hot store. I use to love the hunt.

I remember finding NCAA 06 early in a Target in South Windsor, CT. It was the Friday before the Tuesday release it was sitting in the case.

I just acted normal and asked to purchase it. I remember the clerk ringing it up and it was flagged for before Street release. She called the manager over and he did a override on the transaction.

Thank God I had 2 people that new nothing about breaking street dates or video game releases for that matter and just walked out like normal. Lol

              The good old days.

It's always good to hear something good actually came out of Ohio.

But yeah, to me it wasn't even about finding it, I just loved reading about people trying to con workers or just talk about their hunts. It was just fun ways to pass the final days before the game came out.

I vividly y remember my local EB Games calling me on a Monday afternoon to tell me that my preordered copy of NCAA Football was ready for pickup. I'm doing 90 on the highway...back in those days the Speed Limit was 55 mph. I'm rushing to the mall to get the game. I arrive at the store, get to the counter, give my name, and let them know that I had just received a call saying that I could come and pick my game up. The guy behind the counter is looking at me like I'm mentally challenged and he has no idea what I'm talking about. I tell him about the call I received from the young lady, and he tells me "they haven't received their shipment yet"...I know he's lying through his teeth. So, I go through the who spill about how I wasted gas and time coming down here and I feel like they need to stand on their word...to no avail. Needless to say I left that store pissed...and stayed pissed for about 8-9 hours until I could go and pick the game up the next day.

Loved hearing about everyone’s hunt. It was an exciting way to pass the time. I used to call up every store in my area

OMG, I remember people paying insane amounts on eBay just to get the game a few days early. Me & my cousin went to EB Games one time because we heard they had gotten the game early, I think this was around the time we discovered that the game stores would get the games early and sit on them until release day. And we tried everything to get the guy to sell us the game haha….no dice.

I would be so envious of the folks with the Mom and Pops that sold the game early haha, My God, NCAA was such a big deal. We use to count the days until release.

I drove past EA’s headquarters yesterday and part of me really wanted to go in and tell the receptionist I was Caleb Williams’ guy and I was there to pick up his early copy.

I know it absolutely positively wouldn’t have worked.

One of the things I remember most about trying to get the game early in those days, is you would have people actually find the game in unlikely places. There were times where the game was found at some mom and pop store tucked away in the city. There were also times you could go by a record store like Sam Goody and they may have copy or two out. Like everybody else, I blew up the phone calling every store that I knew carried video games. It could have been Sears or Radio Shack, it didn't matter lol.
