I think we'd all enjoy an extended look at gameplay.
It's probably not gonna happen.Boston Red Sox

Re: Mascots look great - crowds look great - uniforms look great
More companies don't show gameplay before a release than do at this point. Companies know that many will buy the game and then stream it. They depend on that to happen so those that need extended gameplay can get it before they want it.
There isn't a scheme behind it. It's the state of the business. And honestly the norm at this point. Across multiple genres this is true. Not just the sports genre.Funkycorm

Mascots look great - crowds look great - uniforms look great
In this day and age, showing gameplay is actually a much more risky endeavor than not doing so. Players are much more likely not to purchase if they see extended gameplay sequences than if they just see a cinematic trailer, or heavily tailored deep dives. Just look at Summer Games Fest, or the Xbox Showcase, etc. Nearly every featured game shows only cinematic trailers, or heavily edited and cut together gameplay sequences to show off specific elements of the game. What game released an extended sequence? Dragon Age. Which immediately resulted in a social media uproar about people cancelling preorders or being uninterested due to the gameplay. Ubisoft event showed an extended look at Assassin’s Creed: Shadows. What happened? Game that generated mass hype on its cinematic trailer has people flooding social media with ‘it’s just another AC game! Ubisoft can’t do anything new!’ Extended gameplay videos are almost never a selling point for consumers. People who want to buy the game will buy the game. People on the fence will almost never be swayed by gameplay, but they’re much more likely to be turned off by it. Particularly in this case, because of the very annoyingly vocal ‘MaDdEn ReSkIn!’ crowd.Comment

It seems like if gameplay was fantastic they would want everybody to see it. Either that or they don't want everybody to run out and buy the college game which would suppress Madden sales.More companies don't show gameplay before a release than do at this point. Re: Mascots look great - crowds look great - uniforms look great
Yeah, mascots, crowd, uni's, stadiums, all look great. And those matter way less tho to my personal taste than actual gameplay. But, I don't really care what the gameplay looks like (key word again, looks) with someone else playing it. The only thing that I will be able to judge the game on ultimately is how the gameplay experience is in my hands. It can look great with someone else playing but that doesn't indicate it will play great for me. It can look less than stellar with someone else playing but that doesn't mean it won't be great in my hands. I know I sound like a broken record but we are to the point the only thing that means a hill of beans to me now is how it plays for me and my particular skill set. Anything before that time is purely cosmetics.Talk about things nobody cares.

Re: Mascots look great - crowds look great - uniforms look great
This isn't an EA only thing with gameplay. Many companies do not release gameplay before the game comes out. Even new IPs. It is the norm. Showing even amazing gameplay before a game, any game, releases will foster negative feedback. Those who want the game are going to pre-order it. Case in point, I have pre-ordered the standard edition. Those who truly want gameplay will get it when the game releases and will make a decision. This is 2024, YouTube and twitch will have gameplay within minutes of the game releasing. This is free marketing for a company. Why waste resources making a gameplay video that no matter how perfect it is, will end up harboring negativity? Just go to YouTube and look up the Madden and EA haters. They hate on a game that hasn't even been released yet.
Fact is, no matter how amazing gameplay could be, it won't be perfect and, yes, showing it can hurt sales because that's how it works.
Anyone concerned about gameplay can watch gameplay when a game releases and go from there. Plus, why trust what someone else says about the game?
Example, I bought MLB 24 this year on release day. I didn't pre-order but was just buying on release . I watched the dev tournament the few days before or whenever it came out, and almost didn't buy it because the gameplay looked bad in my opinion. But that was because of how their play style.Last edited by Funkycorm; 06-29-2024, 12:26 PM.Funkycorm
