Redshirting in Road to Glory

I created an elite RB recruit to play at Ohio State in hopes that I would sit behind Henderson and Judkins for the entire year, but to my mismay; I was put into the 4th quarter of a blowout of Akron in the first game. (Kudos to the CPU subbing out the starters though)

I may have to lower the overall if I want to redshirt, if that’s even a thing.

If someone has tested the redshirting idea in RTG, please confirm here that it is possible.

Worst case scenario is if you sit the whole season without playing a down, then next season you’re a sophomore.

FYI, college rules have changed in the past 5 years so that you can play in up to 4 games and still be eligible for a redshirt. And in this game if you are eligible for a redshirt at the end of a season, the game will automatically apply it to you.

As long as you don't feature in 4 more games your freshman season, you should still be able to redshirt.

It's possible. I created an underdog QB and redshirted my first season.

did not work for me. created an underdog QB. did not play in any games, but became a sophomore the next season.

was even third string. saved all upgrade points until 2nd season

I restarted, forced myself to become academically ineligible, that gave me a redshirt. lol

Same for me. Didn't play a down in the first season, was not red-shirted.

They should give you an option to redshirt in RTG. Hopefully they will patch that. You should be asked before the season as well as after the season if you are eligible to.


I have not played RTG yet. Question: Do they allow / prompt you if you want to enter the Transfer Portal?

at the end of the season, you can look at the transfer portal to see what interest the other school have in you. you do not have to declare that you are going to the portal or anything like that. I haven't yet transferred to another school though. so I don't know if there is any thing else beyond that.

If you’re a QB choose your school and upgrade your player wisely. You don’t want to be stuck at QB2 for more than 4 games your first year.

My first attempt I made the mistake of winning a QB2 position battle a few games in and QB1 was unreachable. Didn’t play a single snap of offense all year but because these games put the backup QB as the placeholder on XP’s and FG’s my redshirt was burned. Thought that was pretty lame so I decided to restart and spent the full year as QB3 and did receive my redshirt.

Maybe it was a case of me being the FG holder as I was QB2 for part of the season. I never interacted (I know you don't do anything, but should see the field) in those cases.


Something else that suggests that - I think 4th down is automatically simmed. I had a game where I scrambled to the 1 on 3rd down. The game went back to sim, and I was surprised to see 7 and not 3 scored. Check the play history, and it had simmed me as throwing a TD. I'm only 1.5 seasons in so don't have other examples. I imagine if it was late in a big game, and your 4th down play got simmed, it would be pretty annoying.

I haven't gotten the game yet. But, I think the best way ensure you get your redshirt is to tank the position battles and likely not spend skill points. My plan for all my RTG characters is to get redshirted and focus on Academics and Training. So, I want to go to a school like Texas as a QB where I know I'm not going to play or Ohio State as a RB. I think the earliest I would start trying use accrued Skilled Points and trying to win position battles is when I know I only have 4 total games left. So if it is a non-Playoff team, I wouldn't try to win a position battle until after we played 10 games(accounting for Conference Championship and Bowl). If you are on a playoff caliber team, I would just tank position battles and save skill points until the season is over.

My main goal is to graduate in 3 seasons and focus heavily on Training. So if I Redshirt, I will have my RS JR and RS SR seasons to focus heavily on Leadership and Brand.

I just finished my true freshman season as an elite QB. I had to position battle and lose every week to stay as QB3 and I received a red shirt
