Goalie Mask Editing Idea

I love being able to edit the goalie equipment and try to get all goalies as accurate as possible

One thing that bugs me is that some of the teams goalie masks are just not very good or at least the options for some teams are not as good as some other teams.

I do have a couple ideas that I think would really help in this department without requiring much of an overhaul

#1) Each team should have 3 masks to choose from and they should take some of the cheesier looking masks and replace them with something that would be a little bit better of an option

#2) This is something that should be very easy for the EA developers to put into the game. GIVE US THE OPTION TO CHOOSE THE COLOR OF THE CAGE. Some of the masks are decent but the color of the cage stinks, giving us the ability to choose white, black or the primary or secondary team color can take a mask that you don't like and instantly turn it into a mask the you do like

Just an idea that I think would really help.....thoughts?

Agreed and I don't know what version it was has to be a while now but they had fiberglass masks vintage style as options also which would really help in creating classic seasons.

It was really glitchy that year and then they were removed from that generic goalie mask list never to be seen from again.

As I recall the problems were skin and hair were coming through the masks you can still see it now with Bernie parents and most others so instead of fixing it they removed it and then added the black through the holes instead of just taking the time and fixing it ?

FYI many people post about this on the EA forums and they always say they'll pass the word on to the developers haha

Just the ability to choose the color of the cage would go a long way and allow us to take a mask that has a decent paint job but you're stuck with a cage color that just doesn't look good.....simply being able to make the cage white instead of orange, yellow, black, etc. would help greatly and should be incredibly simple for the devs to implement

Yes cage color shouldn't be an issue but I think with the fiberglass masks were the cage would be that's the issue with the fiberglass with detection issues as the cage isn't directly on the face.

Remember it took until NHL 22 to get roster share though I heard they do have a new team from a year or so ago and at least in my case gameplay has greatly improved.

I can't remember which teams off the top of my head, but when editing goalies I noticed a few teams where it feels like they have had a new mask added to their selections

There has also been a handful of new goalie gear added as well which is great. They've come a long way in this area over the past few years, but there is still plenty of room for improvement. There are way too many sets of gear that nobody has worn in the NHL in for 5 to 10 years now and there's 2 or 3 sets that are very commonly worn today that are missing or have yet to be added.

My original post was about the masks and specifically the ability to change the color of the cage. I'm hoping someone from EA might see this and make that a future enhancement.....just being able to change the cage to white or black or whatever color can take a mask that doesn't particularly look great and make it 10x better. This should be something that can patched in rather easily I would think

Just a few improvements in this area would have a massive impact in this area of the game. This goes for skaters as well, a little bit of cleanup and focus on the gear being worn today in the NHL while getting rid of some stale sets of gear would be impactful and shouldn't be too difficult for the developers

You don't want to be removing anything just adding there's many who create classic rosters for example having The Koho brand for Patrick Roy and others is very key for the immersion into old time hockey.

Yeah....I totally get that side of the discussion as well. You definitely don't need to remove stuff, but the focus should be on having as much of the current gear as possible, especially sets of equipment that are worn by several active NHL goalies today

Yes that should be basic just like having every players face in the game still probably less than 40%?

Of course, I don't know the language of each license and how it works 100% but have some knowledge to it. The alumni is a separate license from the nhl one. The NHL teams send in the photos of the players to EA for use in the game. Some players may not be there that day. Also, it's a huge cost to travel with their face scan machines or fly players to their office where it's located.

However, they should still use the players face they have instead of the greyed out.

The portraits are just the NHL team ones. The scans are done at the EA studios when the players are in Vancouver. Not every team/player wants to bother to go over there for a scan during their quick trip to Vancouver.

Yes, I know. The portraits are sent in by the NHL team. The face scans are done mainly in Vancouver they can have them mobile since they have brought the face scan equipment to Seattle before. They should just have a data base and bring it to the draft and get them stored then and when a player signs, they can add them in or have them on the junior or European team they play on.

I think this would work with artists that work with several goalies but to have each artist do it could be pricey for the license.
