Re: KingSimKits: NBA 2K25 | 12min Qtr | Modern Era Sim Sliders , Gameplay & Stats

Played these tonight. Seeing the same problem I’m seeing across various other slider sets. Defense is almost non-existent on jumpshots. If you look at the shot feedback, almost everything is considered open or wide open. Even when the defender is up in their chest.

It seems like everyone just turns the feedback off and chalks those up to “well those shots go in sometimes.” But the issue is that the game isn’t registering that a defender is even there. And if every single jump shot is doing that, what is the point of working to get an open look?

With shot timing, you can make everything. With Real Player % like what Shady Gaming has (also zero defense), you are just purely playing the percentages. Have to find some way to get defense to actually matter.

That's because its a workaround. We have to choose, between realistic outcomes or playing within 2K's design. Sure it'd be nice for the feedback to stay the same, but 2K doesn't design it in a way that allows for the feedback prompts to stay the same although we change the contest conditions. Which would be a good quality of life fix IMO...But you have to take into account other things such as today's game is more offense driven. So to see those true to life stats, you have to curate the sliders to mimic those stats in some way esp if you play 12 min qtr. So yes, more contested shot makes happen, and more points are being scored league-wide.

For me, I'd rather choose what's realistic over a gaming technicality. And that's all the feedback basically is. A technical read on a shot contest. So sure, i'd love for it to stay the same but if your measurement of realistic outcomes is based on the feedback prompt, you may as well play on default and deal with the contest engine that comes in the box. Which is totally fine. Also, real player % is your preference so thats cool tool. This is a base that you can totally adjust to fit your style. I'd prefer to have more realistic outcomes and say the heck w/ the feedback. The contests still do make an impact, so does on ball defense and help defense which all goes hand in hand to stopping their offense

But if the workaround is having no contests whatsoever, then that wouldn’t be realistic. You don’t even have to play the games. You know that your outcomes in game will be purely based off of percentages because neither defense will be able to do anything. Even double teams or smothering defense don’t change anything. Players will shoot essentially the same thing every game. I would think playing the games and being able to make no adjustments whatsoever, on top of knowing players will never get hot or cold or be able to be shut down, will get boring for most pretty quickly.

Now to your point, which I agree with, I have no idea how to fix it and it may be completely unfixable. I’ve tried a number of things and you essentially get stuck with either this, or appropriate contests and overly sticky defense (contests are actually tied more to on ball defense than the contest strengths). More than anything, it’s a sign of how dated this series is and how desperately much of the game needs a rework. 2K hasn’t really changed anything CPU gameplay wise since 2K17.

I’m wondering how much the badges would impact things. Like if we’re getting no contests with a setup, but then we give certain players (or everyone) challenger, if that would possibly cause an impact on the shot. I’ve been using a roster with very limited badges, but maybe implementing some of these on certain levels would help out.

To your point about badges, i agree with limited badges as well as its a can cause a case for certain aspects of the game to feel more over powered. As well as some of the mechanics of how 2K plays could def use some innovation.

Shot contests do in-fact work on this set, its just not 100% miss or make based on the contest impact. The set isn't about having Zero contests, its about creating the unpredictability within the scoring game. Out of the box the shot contest is very predictable when heavily contested. You should also see shots go in at times that you didn't expect which creates some levels of fun. If you playing on real player %, then yes a tweak in the contest may have to be in effect. I play with the shot timing mechanic for a more skill based approach for the USER. And because you have to contest closely, game-planning and adjustments are the premier reason these are built the way they are. I mention this extensively in my videos, because it forces you to have to play honest. I've tested almost 40 games or so, and you have to leave room for the diffrerent dynamics and spreads of outcomes, which makes each game have its own narrative.

Most importantly, make sure to have fun my bro!

I agree with coachX. Nothing to do with your sliders in particular. You could say that today's basketball is so offense driven, but there's a lot of defense being played. Just look at OKC, Rockets or Grizzlies. And I tried ATD rosters/sliders and various others, and like coachX pointed out, it seems like I'm just playing the percentages and I feel like a fool trying to play good defense and try to get best looking shots when defense doesn't really matter that much. For example, I played a game yesterday using ATD and some sliders and I missed two wide open shots with CJ Mccollum and I knew the third one is going in no matter what. So I crossed the half court and took heavily contested shot with him, swish. Defense does matter in a way, but the impact is too small. And yeah, I get it, if you raise that impact, then the defense is too sticky and it's hard to make slightly contested shots. But to say that best players constantly make contested shots, like heavily contested, hand in your face, is wrong, and I think only people who watch highlights would say such thing. So I think that that's generally NBA 2K game problem that is hard to fix via sliders. Game is good looking, feels great on the surface, pro play is amazing, but when you dig underneath, you will find the flaws that are hard to overlook.

I would make a case to say that 2K for me is still a very enjoyable game. Im about creating a world of unpredictability. Why? Because that’s what keeps it exciting, and keeps me coming back. The Reason why i play shot timing as well. Secondary to that is striving to meet today’s statlines while having a challenge that intersects my skill level. But sure, its still a game driven by an algorithm in some aspects, i enjoy finding those predictable clamps and loosening them. Ive been doing sets since 2017 and 2k has come a long way since, but a perfect set isn’t the goal anymore b/c it can’t be. A playable, and enjoyable set is what ive strived for.

Nonetheless, the question is how much fun are we having playing 2k overall? Are slider sets and rosters redundant? And what is it that has gamers in a funk this year about sliders? Im truly curious to know

Not tried the slider set yet, and will probably be a while before I have time to, but I have to agree with the philosophy of the creator of these sliders. The game has become a little too predictable and shot making in the NBA isn't as arbitrary as the game makes out.

For me the gameplay footage shared looked as good as any gameplay footage I've seen. So at some point I am sure I'll be trying these out, and I thank the creator for all his work.

I’ve tried a bunch of slider sets and these are as close to greatness as I have seen. However shooting percentages for both teams is a bit high. How could I lower that without messing up what is working?

Appreciate the feedback man! A question I have for you is seeing where the high shot percentages are taking place? Inside/Close, Middy, or 3pt range? A good way to see this is my looking at the shot chart for both teams. For me, it was always too high in the paint, so I lowered the USER & CPU inside and close shot sliders bewteen 4-7 points.

Once you can see where you'd want lower those values, adjust gradually by 3 points at a time to see those changes. Or lower it drastically by 10, and then raise it back up gradually to your liking.

Thanks! Yeah typically in the paint. It’s weird though as during the game it doesn’t feel like too many shots are being made, however at the end of the game my team and the AI team are mid to high 50%. I’m a bit nervous lowering the numbers too much as I would hate to see players missing for no reason. I’ll give it a try and see. Thanks again

For sure, i mentioned this in my full gameplay video, how achieving true to life percentages you will see more missed shots than made. Thats just how it is lol. But definitely let me know how your adjustments work out

Hope I don't step on the slider maker's shoes here but rather than lowering the shot success sliders I would look to raise the layup/jumpshot defense strength sliders.

This also touches on the issue xcoach brought up, I believe the game is registering shots being open in part due to how low these sliders are set to. The defense strength sliders work in conjunction with the shot coverage impact slider to determine how much impact a defender will have on FGAs.

We're better served if everyone takes what slider makers say to heart -- sliders like these should be treated as a base. I normally end up borrowing concepts from several different slider sets when arriving at a set that suits me. There's not a one size fits all.

(there's also the matter of realistic feeling gameplay vs realistic stats but thats a different convo alltoether)

Whats up gg, thanks for your perspective. Like I've mentioned there is no perfect one fits all set. These are definitely a base. Tune to your liking!

These are my favorite sliders so far. I do like the unpredictability with the shooting. I won my first game against the Grizzlies by 10. I also lost by 25 to the Celtics. It makes the game more balanced but still has that HOF challenge to it. I do like the dunks I'm seeing too. The best roster to use this with hands down is Real2kinsider. Do you have Mynba sliders too?
