Edgar Renteria was in obvious pain as he walked through the Braves clubhouse on Sunday morning. He and the Braves are crossing their fingers and hoping that he can avoid a trip to the disabled list. "We're going to wait a few days and see how it reacts," Braves head athletic trainer Jeff Porter said. "After a couple of days, we'll have a better feel for how long we think it will be."

Renteria first felt the strain during his first at-bat on Saturday night. But after notching a first-inning single that extended his Major League-best hitting streak to 12 games, he remained in the game. He exited after swinging and missing on a third strike from Jake Peavy in the sixth inning.

While moving out of the way of a ball deflected off the batting cage during the first week of Spring Training, Renteria suffered a similar ailment that caused him to miss just a few days.

But because he felt the discomfort while swinging this time, there's more cause for concern.

"It's a different mechanism of injury this time," Porter said. "Yeah, I am a little more concerned about it this time, because he did it swinging, and that's the typical way you do it. But you just don't know. He was pretty sore in Spring Training, too."

If the Braves opt to place Renteria on the disabled list, they'd likely replace him on the 25-man roster with either Luis Hernandez or Yunel Escobar. While Hernandez isn't as skilled offensively, he may get the nod because he's already on the 40-man roster.

Man, I have to get used to the fact that BraveGamer is now Spike. Thomson looking good. Frenchy still killing the ball. A coincidence taht when Frenchy starts hitting, we start winning.

I was wondering if anyone would notice. :spit:

Yeah, Thomson looks great today... real glad we didn't trade him. 12 straight retired now by JT.

Thompson out of the game. Brian Giles homers off Ken Ray. 3-1 Braves.

Thomson done after 6 brilliant innings, Ken Ray on in relief.

And he promptly gives up a homer to Brian Giles. 3-1.

Now a double. :smirk:

And another double, 3-2 now.

That's all for Ray... Villarreal on.

Tie game.

Wouldn't it be great if we get could a well pitched game from both the starter and the bullpen?
