Re: Mad World (Wii)
This looks really cool.
1UP Preview
The idea, it seems, is that you're a contestant on a bloodsport TV show, and the objective is obviously to kick ***, but to do it in a way that amounts to as much red all over the screen as possible to feed the audience's bloodlust. But here's the thing -- though it's filled with blood and violence, MadWorld is presented in such a stylized fashion that it never results in squeamishness. Later in the demo, our hero held an enemy up against a giant spinning saw blade, shredding the baddie to bits and spewing blood all over. He also entered a minigame that consisted of hitting enemies against a giant dartboard with a baseball bat, the red blood splotches indicating accuracy. This is not the game you let Grandma try after she's gotten her fill of Wii Sports. The Sin City vibe is fantastic, with detailed black-and-white visuals and written action cues to further lend to the game's graphic-novel style. The upbeat music, too, perfectly sets the tone of the game -- you just want dive in and cause some bloody mayhem.Better quality trailer:In a week of seeing many of the industry's biggest wares ahead of E3, MadWorld easily stands out as one of the most impressive. Surrounded by rehashes and titles offering predictable gameplay improvements, the game feels extremely fresh and cool. It also feels entirely void of marketing's influence -- black and white with tons of blood flies in the face of the industry's usual instincts, and it's great to see something so bold as this. This early demo cemented two things in my mind: 1) Clover's art-house spirit definitely lives on in Platinum, and 2) I cannot wait to play this freaking game.

Re: Mad World (Wii)
Now that you mention it, MadWorld does look a bit like No More Heroes. I've never played No More Heroes, but I've never been a big fan of Suda 51's games. The pedigree of the people at Platinum Games speaks for itself (Viewtiful Joe, Okami, Resident Evil 4, and Devil May Cry), so we'll see.Go Noles!!! >>----->Comment

Re: Mad World (Wii)
IGN Review - 9.0
I realize that not everybody will find MadWorld's unique visual and aural presentation appealing, but to me, the game is an instant collector's item and a Wii showpiece, not just for its amazing style, but for its label-busting content. Anybody who says Nintendo's console is just for kids will see things very differently after a few chainsaw- induced mutilations. More importantly, though, MadWorld does not place emphasis on style over gameplay, so there's plenty of fun, smart mechanics to back up the overwhelmingly slick look and sound of the title. You'll be floored by some of the scenarios that await you in the fast-moving beat-'em-up, surprised by the unexpectedly well-made storyline, and simultaneously grossed out and cracked up by all of the completely over-the-top gore. Even with some camera issues, some repetition, and a decidedly short single-player mode (if you play it on normal difficulty), SEGA and Platinum Games have still created Wii's first truly excellent game of the year.
I'm begging you, buy this game so that we'll see more like it.Go Noles!!! >>----->Comment

Re: Mad World (Wii)
Anyone pick this up? I got it today and played it for maybe 25 minutes. I had to turn it off so I wouldn't miss South Park. Its kind of like Final Fight meets Manhunt, without any stealth. Its got a lot of style, and I dig the comic book presentation. I don't know how it will carry, as just playing part of the first level the enemies were mostly brain dead and I could do whatever I wanted with them. I suspect thats just to get your feet wet and the difficulty will kick in before long. The controls are simple, though the camera kind of sucks and there's more "waggle" than I expected, so pulling off the kills are easy. And there's enough stuff laying around to give you some options when killing enemies. So far its made a good impression, and its nice to have a reason to turn on my Wii for something other than the virtual console. I'll get in more time with it this weekend.Comment

Played the first level last night, and it's kinda fun...It does exactly what it set out to do, and does it great. I just don't think that this game style is for me...not with everything else out right now.Anyone pick this up? I got it today and played it for maybe 25 minutes.
