How to make a player an impact player?

Yea, My QB has All American Stats and still has not become a impact player as yet... Is this thing random or soemthing?

Random until they add Spring Game back and give you the option to choose your 3 players like on last gen.

What does an impact player actually do? Is there a boost in ratings? The reason I ask, I have a JR DT who I do not want to start and want to redshirt, but he's my D impact player. Weird!

no they do nothing. I loved the ps2 version when it would go into that slomo cam and do something huge
