Kinda off-topic I know, but just curious if anyone would like to educate me on how to decide when to stop updating the players based on real life vs simulation.

A good example is Tarvaris Jackson and the Vikings. It's clear they are no longer thinking he is the QB of the future.

Would you want me to update the Vikings depth chart so that he becomes the backup at the start of the career?

I'am with Sloey on this....when do you take control of YOUR team. You can update, and keep on updating...at some point you will have to take the team you have and play. Why do you need actual week 1 rosters...didn't you just go thur a draft or a preseason. Or sign someone off the free agent wire to fill a hole where someone got hurt.

I wouldnt, thats a decision that should come (or not come) during the camp/pre/season based upon his performance (or lack thereof)

However updating ratings based upon how somebody performs during the real NFL season? That strikes me as perfectly fine.

I think that is an executive decision Josh because you wont be able to make everyone happy. (ha i bet that is why you put the poll up ;) )

Personally, I want my players to have the expectations they had during pre-season every time I start a career. I would only want a player's attributes and "expectations" such a T Jackson to be changed on a yearly basis.

just one man's opinion, we'll see where the poll leads...and I'm already down 9-1. I have to ask though, are you headed down the slippery slope of changing rosters every week based on a player's performance each week? And do you also put players that are injured this year on IR for people starting new careers?

ok, i'm done playing devil's advocate now...game on !

Josh, I've got the Viks and have Jackson playing. In the game, he has some good games.....and alot of not so good games. I think this itself is what Head Coach is about. Do I keep playing him...or look for someone else. I'am glad I got to see how he plays, and not letting someone else tell me he is the backup. The ratings for the 2 viks qbs are not that far off. Hope I didn't step on anyones toes......just my thoughts.

This should get an award for oddest thread....what a tough thing to answer. I could not even vote on the poll.

Josh wants to do the normally right thing with a sports title and update rosters for us, but the NATURE of THIS title makes this an unusual proposition for the things that Sloey and others have brought up.

So my answer is this: I would vote for accurate rosters as of first week of TC for the 2008-2009 season. I'd have Favre on the Jets, otherwise everyone where they were first day of TC.

Then, if there isn't another version of HC coming in 2009, I'd provide an updated roster for the first day of TC for the 2009-2010 season.

And call it good....you can be chasing ratings changes around for weeks based on the real player's dynamics in the NFL.

And that's MY opinion on it which no one cares about. :spit:

I think a lot of people are misunderstanding the issue. These roster updates will not change your player ratings in the middle of your career. This is ONLY if you start a new career.

Would you want to start your career with a player being better than he is in real life? Do you want to start a career where Tavaris Jackson has the potential to become a superstar or do you want to start a career where you know he is pretty much a bust? Do you want to start a career where Michael Turner may or may not be able to carry the load or do you want to start a career knowing that he is probably a 100+ yards per game back?

In other words, if you start a new career today, do you want what we have learned about the players in the last 3 weeks in the real NFL to be a factor in their ratings or not?

Personally, I would like to have what we know about them to be in the game. If i start with the Vikes, I don't want Jackson to be the second coming of John Elway, because, well he isn't. I don't want Michael Turner to be a bust because at the time this game was made we didn't have much to judge him on. I can see where some people might want that though. For me, that is the kind of thing for year 2.

I didn't miss the point. I'm saying (and just my single solitary vote lol) that every time I start a new career, I want the players to be who they were at the end of preseason with those expectations. Once the season starts, it's sim time.

Let's just use RB FORTE of the Bears as an example. I think it is safe to say he is outperforming his HC personna. So the devs would update his attributes for the next time you started a career. My point is, and it is up to each person to decide, do they want a game based on what is actually happening in the NFL each week, or do they want the same expectations that we all had when we started the game of each player.

One final note...after this year, when you're using more fictional players than real players you don't even have the option. To me it just kinda feels like cheating (not bad cheating) but cheating like oh, he turned out much better/worse than I thought he would be I'm going to go back and change him.
