NBA 2K9 Dunk System Explained (Dunk Edits Coming Eventually)

Don't quote anything in this first post because I will be editing as long as OS lets me.

First I am asking for your help. If you know if certain players are ONE foot or TWO foot players let me know. This can help me out when created the dunk package edits.
Name: One Foot or Two Foot or Both

I need help with Josh Smith because he is hard to figure out when it comes to dunking. He needs his own package.

Also the rookies, I need help with them

Again this is not meant to be the gospel. I just want peace on earth and player dunking the way they should.

    1. Standing dunks.
    50 - Can't do it
75 - Can do it; won't really do it in traffic
99 - Basically can do it at will no matter the traffic volume

Are the only numbers that matter. There are some 99's on default but I feel Dwight should be the only one that deserves this since he dunks on whole teams.

    2. Dunk Packages
For the most part if a Dunk Package has a person's name on it, I would like to keep that package exclusive to them. Well the wing players with packages named after them. You will see when I explain everything.

    Generic
Here you have a mixture of one foot and two foot dunks. Many wing players will receive this package

    Basic
This was known as "Weak Sauce" in 2K8. I call this the fat boy package because I want to give it to unathletic players. Zach, Big Baby, Sweetney, etc........

    Basic Guard
A new package that I LOVE. Basically all one foot dunks in this package. A lot of wing players will have this one as well

    Crawford
    Self-explanatory.

    Duncan
Self-explanatory. I tend to use this for the big dufus players (Yao and Big Z). The most unathletic dunk package for big men.

    Dwight
Since he dunks like a guard, this package can come in handy. Mostly two foot dunks that athletic wings would possibly do. Since I don't believe in the "Flashy Guard" package, many of those players would get this package.

    Flashy Guard
NBA Jam. I refuse to give this to anyone.

    Iggy
    Self-explanatory.

    KG
Self-explanatory. The only issue I have with this package is the windmill. KG doesn't windmill anymore. I would rather give Stromile this package than KG.

    Kobe
I never liked Kobe's package because of some of the speed of his dunks. But I can tolerate it if only Kobe has it. I won't share it with anyone else

    LeBron
    Self-explanatory.

    Melo
    Self-explanatory.

    Moon
    Self-explanatory.

    Nash
    Self-explanatory.

    Parker
    Self-explanatory.

    CP3
    Self-explanatory.

    Power Bigman (aKa Amare)
    Self-explanatory.

    Rondo
    Self-explanatory.

    Shaq
    Self-explanatory.

    VC
    Self-explanatory.

    Wade
    Self-explanatory.

    3. Alley Oops
I like the oop system this year. For one, they are realistic. Thanks 2K. Secondly, ANYONE that can dunk can catch an oop. Simple

    4. Dunk Ratings
If you player has BELOW a 60, he will not dunk. A 60 will enable a player to dunk. So because of fluctuation in ratings, I suggest putting the lower rated players at 65 so they won't be able to dunk one year and won't be able to dunk the following year. The 5 pts serves as a cushion.

Of course the higher your rating, the more flashy your dunks are from that package. High ratings will be reserved for the flashy IN-GAME dunkers. Someone like Nate Robinson will NOT have a high dunk rating because he practically only dunks when he is on the court alone.

    thanks DC

if only we could combine your dunk edits with certain peoples roster files, that would be great. maybe you and somebody else with rosters could work together

Really good stuff that they made it so anybody that can dunk can catch oops, seems like lower dunk rated people have a harder time of catching it though because it took me forever to get Rondo to catch one in the demo.

I'd say go with Iggy or LeBron for Josh Smith due to the power and finesse in those guys' dunk packages. Maybe even Moon for him.

Ryan, anyone can use my dunk ratings. I don't trip off of that "plagiarism" that others cry about. We are here to help eachother out. Use them, steal them, present them as your own. I don't care forreal.

Dakkon; I was thinking about Iggy for Josh. I sued LeBron last year but some of LeBron's dunks were so unlike Josh. I don't know man. I know he needs his own package

Good work DC. You got this up and running quick! lol

You don't think Bynum is in the same category as Dwight?

I think those are the only two that should have the 99 Standing Dunk rating.

Just something I thought you might consider.

From what I've seen last year, he may not be at Dwight's level, but he is definitely close.

For you to say that he "In no way", bangs like Dwight is a huge overexaggeration.

You know what, I SERIOUSLY thought about giving Bynum a 99 for dunks in traffic since he was somewhat neck and neck with Dwight for Total Dunks until he got hurt. I will wait to see what he does this eyar, but I did consider it and it would make sense to put him there. We will see. Thanks for the imput yall

since we have 2 use the 5 point difference to compensate 4 the ratings decline in franchise mode... does it affect standing dunk ratings too?

Speaking about Bynum, hey DC, go edit Will Bynum's dunk ability because he used to rock Nokia Arena in Tel Aviv last season

Yes, but if I remember right, 50-74 in standing dunk won't allow you to do standing dunks. So, best thing to probably do is leave the 50's at 50, put each player that you'd have at 75 to a 78...and leave 99's where they are.

Also, remember that players that are shorter than 6'9'' can't do standing dunks regardless of their actual rating. The only players that can do them are the ones that have special dunk/post packages (Wade and Marion are a couple examples). Another thing people don't notice, even if you lower a 6'9'' and higher player's standing dunk to 50, he can still do standing dunks, just not directly under the rim, he has to be back a few steps. Some of this stuff might have changed, but this how it worked in 2k8.

what about "post offense" in relation to dunking?
in the past few years post offense has had a big influence on whether a player can dunk from that animation...to the point of cheesing..just hold turbo toward the basket and boom u have an easy 2....this was with anyone rated 80 or so plus in off post. pretty much regardless of dunk rating..
i had a C rated 60 for dunks. but 86 for post offense, who i could almost everytime, power home for a dunk from the post.
and if i recall correctly, in 2k7, i once had my 6.3pg, rated 70+ for post offense, but 50 for dunking do the same thing at rare times...
i wonder if this has been "fixed".
