    The Little Things

I don't know how this thread disappeared, but I saw something today that I have never seen in over a year of playing this game non-stop, and I had to start this thread to post it.

In my second game with DJWolfpack, Derrick Thomas came on a delayed blitz from the nickle on 3rd and long. I didn't look his way, and so didn't see the blitz coming. DT got there, and when he did, he swung his right arm around my QBs back and slapped the ball out. He even stayed upright to try to make a play on the ball. The animation was super cool, and I can't believe I've never seen it. DJ got the recovery, and I had to replay it a few times just to see what the heck happened.

What "little things" have you guys seen recently that have reminded you just how cool this game is?

Sad that the original thread has disappeared.

Yeah, that play by DT was sick. Too bad I couldn't tie the game up.

One thing I've always liked about this game is how the RBs will put their hand on the back of an OL and "feel" the block and make the appropriate cut to the inside/outside.

Any defender that has the Ball Strip ability will attempt to do this on the QB. For some reason they only try this on the QB. Too Tall has done this a few times for me.

The coolest play I had was off line. I had my WR catch the ball in the snow and slide on his but like O.J. did and when the defenders came he bent backwards to miss there diving tackles and got up and kept running!

That's interesting, 'cause in all the games I've played I've never seen it. I guess the fact that they only try it on the QB makes it extra rare--it's not too often that Tatum or Butkus get to the QB. And DT should get to the QB more than he does, IMO.

I'd love to figure out how to get those ball strip guys to pull the ball out of non-QB ballcarriers' hands!

I saw a fumbled snap a couple of days ago and whenever I see a big hit I get so pumped because they are rare and therefore awesome. I also did have Jack Tatum plaster a WR today and knock the ball out... very rewarding!

Saw a cool animation from Charlie Taylor the other day. Someone tried to press him with Lem Barney, and Taylor punched him in the chops and knocked him on his arse. The guy replayed it in disbelief and I got a good chuckle out of it. That Bump Buster thing is no joke.

I saw a pretty awesome INT against Trojan with Lester Hayes. Willie Gault caught a deep post off playaction and was just lit UP by another player, coughs up the ball, and lester picks it off.

I'm convinced Rod Woodson has the strongest ball hawk ability on this game. Every time a ball is in the air and it isn't caught, you better be ready for Rod to get a shot at it!

Rod is dangerous. I decided to go after him once in our game, and luckily for me he blitzed ;-). Of course my generic dropped the ball, lol. He's also a beast against the run--he got Payton a couple of times in our last game and caught me by surprise.

I have seen that one-handed thing by Hayes a couple of times--it must be the animation they give to the guy who made stick-em famous. There's no way that ball gets caught without a gallon of the sticky stuff.

I remember I was playing an offline game once and the ball was snapped over the CPU punters head and he tried to pick it up and get the kick off. I tackled him as he was starting his motion to punt the ball.

one time on an online game deron cherry tipped a deep pass to alvin harper and while continuing to move forward, he turns around slides butt up backwards and catches the ball right before it hit the ground

I dove for the goal line with walter payton today and got lit up pretty good while flying it. He spun twice in the air while still moving forward... looked pretty cool!

I don't know if this quite applies, but I once watched a really cool replay of a pass I threw with Randall Cunningham-scrambling to the right-to Andre Reed. I zoomed-in on all of the details and I was just amazed at all they put into making the balls a certain way, and the facial details of the players. I liked how they had Visual Concepts and 2k under the thing on the ball that said "All-Pro Football League". It was really cool.

I had Dan Marino thread the needle unlike I've seen in a long time. He'd zing a pass in between 3 defenders so fast I couldn't even see where the ball was at the end... it felt pretty cool to do! I like how the game has him hold the ball low and "pat" it before he snaps it out just like in real life.

Something I've seen in a game w/ Trojan and a game w/ Buddy. Crazy ish happens in this game just like real life.

Against Trojan, I believe the ball bounced off a guy's helmet, Maynard caught it after that and took it to the house.

Against Buddy, his guy fumbles, three of my guys are laying around the ball. Either the game thought it was an incompletion or didn't know he fumbled. Anyway I see Buddy's guy come out of nowhere, scoop it up and score. Back breaker.
