For the love of God, help me---Screens

I don't want anyone to think I'm saying screen passes are cheese, cause I'm not. I just don't know how to stop them, specifically in a 3-4. I just played a guy that ran that play over and over again, exclusively,to his generic RB and he beat me because I couldn't stop it.

I would have thought that something like cover 2 hard would have done it for me, but no. In fact, any kind of tight zone doesn't work, as the CB ALWAYS stays with the WR for his first few steps, letting the RB get outside of him and up the field. I even tried doing the goalline full zone, which has everyone on the line and the generic RB still got around me. I also tried assigning both OLB's to the RB for man, but the generic RB outran my legend OLB's everytime. All it did was turn his 10 yard gains into 5 yard gains, which wasn't enough.

The only thing I did that worked was manning my CB's to the RB, which ended up in one fluke interception. I couldn't keep doing this though, because it leaves me so exposed downfield. I suppose I could hot route OLB's to cover for me, but that seems like a lot of work to stop such s imple play. PLEASE HELP!

So was he running the ball effectively enough not to put some more DB's on the field with nickle or or dime? I thinking if under the in game coaching settings that messing with the match ups might help too. I'm a good rook at this game too, but it sounds like you were playing cheese. Maybe you should try finding yourself a league that is legit.

cover 2 hard, and hot route the wide side OLB or ILB, or both..to the HB.

If you are definetly sure it is coming, hot route the CB to the RB, and hot route the OLB on his side to a cover 2 hard look by pressing down.

Yeah that is what I do most of the time, if I happen to be rushing from the correct side.

I dont use a DL. This works well id say 8 out of 10 time, outside of the occasional stupid branched tackle.

Take your best athlete from your LB's or S's and man up on the RB. He'll follow the RB to the side he is going, along with this you could take another LB or DB and run there too to gang tackle the RB.

I have a gold troy polamalu SS on a league team and he sure does take away the RB if I want him to in cover 1. Polamalu tracks that sorry fool down. If you man up a player on the RB, just make sure he is in even position on defense so the RB doesn't get that ******** ridiculous head start across the field which we all hate so much.

The guy assigned to man up on the HB can't be lined up across the formation. For example, if the opposition comes out in a single back twin TE formation to the right and you're in man with a Cover 2 shell, your weakside backer will be the guy assigned to the HB. The problem is that he's on the wrong side of the formation, and even if you shift over he'll still be too far away to get there in time.

So you have to manually line the guy up, or switch assignments so your strongside backer takes the back and one of your other guys or a safety takes the TE.

Exactly, give your defender who is manned up on the RB a fighting chance to make a play. If you have a good athlete on defense and can sacrifice the coverage somewhere else, this usually does a pretty nice job. Following up with another manually controlled defender of your own should seal the deal most the time and get a tackle for loss on him. Remember, most kids who force screens all game don't have much past that. Once you lock the repetitive things down, usually people are left treading water and guessing. This is where sacks/INT's come

Basically, in general man coverage plays should do well against screens, zones, especially deep zones, should struggle. blitzes with man coverage might struggle, and zone blitzes should get annihilated by screens (that is actually the strongest counter).

If you can get a good athlete manned up evenly on the RB and get a defender in the flat with him, this play is gone. (If you use Linebacker hot routes, select the Outside Linebacker you want to hot route and flick the R stick down, it will put the linebacker in a flat coverage... that coverage can be nice for passes to the flats ex. screens and quick RB passes.

                      1. 2 hard is OK but sometimes the CB gets blocked by the WR

                      2. Control the DE on the side you think the screen is going to and just try to knock down the RB in the backfield

                      3. In Nickel 3-3, hot route the extra LB to the flats on the side you expect the screen is going to.

                      4. Gold and Silver linebackers are pretty effective, make sure they're on the correct side.

                      5. Hot route a CB to cover the RB on the side you expect the screen to go to. This work very well. Or you can call a CB blitz and just hot route the blitzing CB to cover the RB ,
