Just interested because I can't help but feel that 08 is the better game. I traded 09 away and am thinking about getting 08 again because it is so cheap now. I really wanted to give 09 a shot but it is just too dissapointing this year. Anyone else consider going back?

I'll be honest. At 1st, I had thought about it. NHL 09 was getting very frustrating for a while there, even after the patch. But, I kept on chuggin along and pretty much learned things better and accepted the fact that it is what it is, and you're not gonna be 100% on your game 100% of the time. Sometimes, the lesser teams beat you in games that (on paper) you SHOULD win. For example, lets say LA Kings at Detroit. On paper, everyone would say "Oh, the Wings got that one". Then you go in and you have a helluva game and you lose in a SO 4-3. (By the way, this is offline play) Games like that keep NHL 09 exciting for me, and keep it much more challenging than NHL 08. Trust me, I LOVE NHL 08 and have no problem going back and playing it w/ friends that do not have 09 or can't seem to get 09 figured out. But in my opinion, if you take your time and learn everything in 09 from the correct positioning to how to move the puck to create those tiny little openings to spring your offense, NHL 09 is a MUCH more rewarding experience. -

NHL 09 is a better game overall. I played a couple of games of 08 back home (my younger brothers have it for 360), and I found it way too one-timer happy. I also didn't like having to contend with those 'suction hip-checks'.
The only plus about 08? Not having goalies that sprawl around like a peewee house league tender.Comment

Just picked this game up today. After a first period of frustration with the controls I was honestly wondering if I had made the right decision upgrading from 08. Then I started to get the hang of it and had a come from behind win with my Avalanche. This game certainly if tougher then 08 but that isn't always a bad thing.
Great game. Actually having a challenging yet smart sports game is refreshing after trying to play madden the last few months. Worth the money.I WOULD TRADE EVERY GAME I OWN JUST TO HAVE A PERFECT MADDEN.....Comment

I haven't moved to 09 yet because of this very dilemma. I've heard a few people mention that scoring from the blue line is basically non-existent in 09 whereas I thought it was done just right in 08. That's pretty much the only block that's keeping me from moving on. Plus there's some pretty reliable OS veterans on this board that have given up on 09 after attempting multiple things. Being a user of those veterans sliders/rosters/etc their surrender of 09 sends up a red flag for me.I just want a hockey and football game where I can spend more time playing my seasons then I spend changing my sliders.Comment

Well, I just got 08 for Christmas so I don't know anything else. I've heard mixed opinions on 09 but Be A Pro sounds like a lot of fun, so that's one thing to consider.

Be A Pro is fun but flawed, and of itself doesn't justify the purchase of 09. All things considered, if I had a do-over, I would have simply stuck with 08 for another year. 09 is the better game in some areas, but the lack of any real gameplay advancement (board play, etc) along with the goalie issues -- which are significant -- make it more an update than a whole new game.Comment
