Hockeytown - A Detroit Red Wings Dynasty (NHL '09)

This will be my first attempt at writing about my dynasty. I know some of you are probably saying, "You're taking the Wings, won't be much of a challenge." Well, first of all, they are my favorite team, so if I am going to do this, I want to use a team that will keep me interested. Secondly, I suck at this game, so it's not like I will be winning the Cup year after year. I hope I keep you all entertained.

    Babcock Steps Down

Detroit - In a suprise move today, Detorit Red Wings head coach Mike Babcock stepped down from his position on the team. Babcock cited personal reasons as his reason for leaving.

Babcock's departure is not the most shocking storyline here though. What is more shocking, is his replacement. Detroit GM Ken Holland has tabbed virtual unknown Larry George as the new head coach.

"I could have gone with the Torterella's, or the Quinn's...but in the end, I decided some new blood was in order," said Holland.

"It is everyone's dream to be a part of their favorite team, and now I am living that dream," said George. "I look forward to helping the Red Wings win some more Cups."

Detroit - Detroit opened up their season with a hard fought 3-1 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Leafs, who are in rebuilding mode, were pretty scrappy in this contest. Tomas Holmstrom and Valtteri Filppula staked Detroit to a 2-0 lead after 40 minutes. Alexei Ponikarovsky got Toronto back into it midway through the 3rd, but Detroit goalie Chris Osgood shut the door for the rest of the game, and Pavel Datsyuk chipped in an empty netter, and it was a 3-1 final. "It feels good to get that first win under my belt," said coach Larry George. "The Leafs really battled hard out there tonight."

Ottawa - Ottawa jumped out to a 4-0 lead and cruised to a 6-1 romp of the Detroit Red Wings. Daniel Alfredsson led the way with 2 goals and 3 assists. Dany Heatley scored twice for the Sens as well, and recently signed Kirk MacDonald also chipped in with a goal. This game was totally dominated by Ottawa. New Wings coach Larry George was less than impressed with his team's effort. "Just because this team is the defending Cup Champions, doesn't mean they can take nights off. There are a bunch of guys in Grand Rapids who would love to have a chance to play over someone who isn't pulling their weight."

                        1st Period:
                        Spezza (1) (Alfredsson, Phillips) 7:40
                        Heatley (1) (Alfredsson) 10:03 PP
                        Heatley 2 (2) (Alfredsson) 14:55 PP

                        2nd Period
                        Alfredsson (6) (Phillips, Smith) 3:48
                        Holmstrom (2) (Hossa) 11:29

                        3rd Period:
                        Alfredsson 2 (7) (Fisher, Schubert) 4:43
                        MacDonald (1) (Fisher, Foligno) 19:37

Goalies - DET - Chris Osgood; OTT - Martin Gerber

                        Game Stats:
                        Shots on Goal: 27 22
                        Hits: 26 13
                        Faceoffs: 19 11

As a side note here, I tried to replace Osgood in the second period with Conklin but couldn't find where to do it. Can't you change goalies in the middle of a game now or what? I always used to see it in EDIT LINES, but it wasn't there...had to let Osgood finish the game. Anybody know where it is located?

To change your goalies, you have to go to edit lines during a stoppage. If you pause during the play goalies don't appear.
