    So....the homerun view still blows?

Every video i've seen they never show the HR go out of the park. Am I missing something?

What do you mean? Go in the stands? Or completely out of the stadium?

The camera stops following the ball when it goes overt the wall. Basically you don't see where it lands.

Pretty sure if you look you can see people standing up to catch it etc. I have seen different angles of this, but I will say it's better than last year.

That's what others have mentioned. Although it could be the real-time camera cuts to a scene of fans going after the ball, without actually showing the ball go into the stands. I'd have to go back and look at the vids.

This all ties in pretty well with my fielding camera rant:

            http://www.operationsports.com/forum...ng-camera.html

Basically, I'm attributing this to their way of getting the framerate to run smoothly in their control this year. Hopefully further optimization will get it even better for next year so that we don't have to hide all of the stadium glory when the ball is put in play while still having a smoothly running game.

And baa, if the home run is short enough, we will actually see it land into the stands for the fans to come up and catch.

One thing that I love about the real-time thing that I noticed is it will appropriately place where your runner is trotting the bases on the next camera cut, so it's not like always rounding first base even after he actually passed it or something. If that doesn't make sense, watch the Highlights video and watch the bottom right where the player is. When the graphic disappears is where the player last was, and when the camera does its cut to the player, they'll be at the right place instead of some pre-generated cut scene of them doing something.

            It's the little things!

in one video i saw the ball land into the bullpen, but instead of bouncing off the back wall, it went right through it.
So, collision detection on the HRs isnt that great in this game. Unless this was a really warly build and they fixed it.
But, I like how 2k lets you at least see the action in the crowd after the homerun. Whereas mlb the show cuts away too quick.

Oh, you're talking about collision detection? I was just talking about fans reaching for the ball.

Re: So....the homerun view still blows?

I know exactly what the TS is talking about. He wants the camera to follow the ball regardless of the type of shot, just like on real TV. It's been this way for a while and I think I know the reason:

The camera will stop moving/zooming/panning/tracking etc..when the ball passes the invisible barrier on the warning track.

In past games if you ever fiddled w/ the replay option you'd know that you're confined w/ the free cam before the wall, on the warning track and it actually prevented you from getting a good look at things. And if it was tracking the ball during free-cam and you lined up the camera on the warning track - once the ball passed your position it stopped tracking and you'd see the ball fly out of screen.

So they have the ball animated and fans past the barrier, but for some reason the camera cannot keep the ball as it's 'attention magnet' once it passes the warning track. So most of the time if you hit a ball 30 seats in, you won't see it.

I've wanted this changed for a long time in games and collision detection better for homeruns (bounces etc.) because it's the best part of the moment after initial contact w/ the ball is REALLY seeing it, hold it for a couple of seconds and then move on is the way to do it. They could even add effects like camera shake on really important ones in the playoffs (like joe carter's WS hr, it's so crazy the camera is shaking and you see hands in the foreground etc.)

IT's not a game killer, it just makes homer's less to me even more so if there are too many of them - where most you don't even see where it lands!

Yeah I saw that too it was in Colorado. But I did see another video hit a homer and it landed on one of the aisles in the stadium and the ball bounced off the steps and into the stands which was pretty cool. The collision detection was bad in last years game. I played in the Washington Nationals new stadium last year and I hit a homer to center field to that grassy area and the ball just went through the ground so I hope it's fixed this year and i'm just hoping what we are seeing in the vids is just early builds and not in the actual game.

It's so pathetic that they can't incorporate accurate collision detection from 2006 on. It should be standard by now. I noticed how the HR to the bullpen went through the back wall too and it's like.. why can't they do things 100% ?

well i will say this it has improved a little bit like I said in a video I saw a ball hit the steps in stands and bounce into the crowd. Also I watched the homerun derby video and Ryan Howard hit a bomb off the scoreboard in St. Louis and it bounced back into the crowd which was a nice sight.

Its funny, beacause nobody did the homrun camera and collision detection better than All Star Baseball.

I used to play homerun derby just to watch the ball bounce around and hit off signs.

ASB did so many little things perfectly, even though it was far from perfect.

Oh I know man I loved ALL STAR Baseball hands down that was teh best game I ever played too bad Acclaim messed up. I liked the collision detection in that game it was the best hands down and also I remember playing in Texas and I hit a homer to center field on the grass and I remember it landed rolled and stopped and you could see the ball the entire game which was cool. I also liked the future stadiums as well and they had a bunch.

I never played that game on any consoles but N64 and I don't think that's the version you're talking about, so which version are you talking about ? About collision detection, it should've been, ya know, close to 100% accurate in '07, so for '08 and '09, the developers wouldn't have to work on that aspect. 2K needs to concentrate on the basics more. I'm still anticipating the game very much. I don't own any consoles except a PSP and I have The Show '08 and MLB 2K8.. and let me tell ya.. heh.. There's no contest between the two - not even a little.
