    Encouraging news regarding APF2K10?

I just heard 2K will release 'The Bigs 2' baseball game this year. According to Pasta Padre the last release was in 2007 and this news caught him by surprise because there was no indication this was in development.

APF2K8 was also released in 2007 and there is also no indication of development. At least they said there would be no 2K9 but to my knowledge there has not been word either way regarding 2K10.

Pulling a fast one like this at the last minute makes sense. Before EA can rip off any ideas 2K is well on it's way to working on the next release. Also, according to some 2K did state in 2007 APF may be released bi-yearly.

    Sales (XBOX360 + PS3):

    The Bigs: 420,000
    APF2K8: 360,000

    Sales (Wii + PS2)

    The Bigs: 580,000
    APF2k8: 0

In October 2007 there were a total of 17 million XBOX360 + PS3 console sales. Currently there are 48 million. Further, if 2K can develop it for the Wii and PS2 I can't see sales being a whole lot worse than The Bigs.

if they made it, the Wii might get a game, but the PS2 never. this type of football game doesn't need a yearly sequel, so it is possible but i will believe it when i see it.

If there was ever a great time to release a new APF it would be this summer.

        WITH A FRANCHISE MODE!!!!

Its funny I was just thinking about something similar to this the other day. I have really been thinking that about every game now needs a 2-3 year development cycle to really improve on the current gen. Anyways I thought that if 2K is developing another football game they are going to keep it on the total DL until closer to release. Could you imagin the game that would come out if 2K has been working on this project behind the scene the entire time. Like most say if they add full customization to the game it will dominate. Yes...... people want to play a franchise add it, but give it full custom. Just give tons of options, I know I have seen alot of people say no franchise mode, but I would love this game with a franchise. When I say custom I don't just mean teams and players, but also how you set up the league. How many teams. Like in APF 2k8 it would of been sweet to change the number of G,S,B players for each team. I don't have my hopes up on this anymore, but it wouldn't suprise me if this year or next year you see another game out. I thought they had a 3 year deal w/ the players so I can't believe they would just waste that without another game. I think they just maybe going to smart route and doing a long cycle. Oh well just a dream to me right now.

The encouraging news is that TT didn't outright cancel the game in the same way they cancel College Hoops.

LOL - I don't know about that. Madden is still trying to do things 2K did back in 2005.

I wonder if EA is "getting serious" this year because they are afraid 2K10 will be released? Think about it - if EA took the same approach this year and just released another sub-par update, 2k10 could put them in the dirt if they have been working for 2 years on their game.

At least 2K is keeping EA honest. If they announce no 2K10 this year I wonder if EA will still be rocking & rolling like they are now? This is not a knock on the EA dev team, they seem to be doing their best, but they are limited to whatever support and funds they are given by corporate brass.

APF is the only football game I play really. With a little NCAA sprinkled in here and there. But as bad as I want a another 2k football game. I just don't see it happening any time soon. Which is really really really sad!! and depressing

Yet, they didn't include a Franchise Mode.... Hmm.

ONLY because they signed the legends, and figuring out a way to use them in a franchise mode would of been tough. So yea I understand why they did not include a franchise mode.

But making a new generic title with generic players with a franchise mode would be the way to go. ALOT of people love the gameplay of 2k football.

So the name likness would not matter that much. It would still sell because there gameplay mechanics are very sound and represent true football much better than the EA products

Anyways, i feel we may get some info soon.

Set the legends' ages at 23 or whatever, have a fantasy draft and then start your franchise. EASY.

VC didn't include that option because next-to-nothing in the game is geared towards the offline gamer. THAT'S the reason.

Then what do you do once people have been playing for 10 years and the legends all get old and have to retire? How would you account for positions that you weren't able to draft? Do they just generate random generics for future drafts? How do you account for player progression? It would be ridiculous to have elite players who were 23 and never go any better or worse over a 10-12 year career.

A franchise mode using the legends is far from "easy", there are a lot of things you have to account for. The Fantasy Draft idea could work if you drafted my tiers (the first two rounds you draft from all the golds, the next three the silvers, then bronzes, then generics). You would need to have the Gold players be the oldest (29-30?) so that they can retire and the silvers can be promoted to Golds. They would also need to get rid of Bronzes with 4-5 abilities, so that there is a bonus to having a player be promoted to a higher tier (additional abilities).
