Major League Baseball 2K9 full game impressions

People who have the full game are starting to post their impressions.

Barry Bonds records are no where to be found in the game. Now that’s just weird. They have the historical stat sheet and McGwire is the single season Home Run champ and Hank Aaron is the all-time Home Run champ. Ruth is the single season Slugging Percentage champ as well.

(Obviously, Bonds' refusal to allow his license to be in any game has strange results. I guess 2K didn't want Joe Young or Bill Berkeley to be a fictional career leader anymore.)

- If you have a scoreboard in centerfield showing a player and their stats… update the stats. All I saw for the Brewers players during the first game was .000 for every single player. That’s just a silly thing. You’re obviously keeping track of the in-game stats, just put them on the board.
- I had 6 errors in a 12-inning game. 5 of them were simple throws to first where Fielder never had his foot on the bag… that’s just wrong.
- The CPU was aggressive at the plate, but I think that can be adjusted… They would take pitches on the corners…but almost never swing at anything off the plate.
- I have no idea how Dan was crushing the ball like he was. I had a ton of singles in my game… a few doubles… but nothing hit anywhere near the outfield wall.

wow. are these a bunch of 9 year olds? Barry Bonds hasn't had his stats or his likeness in a game in almost a decade.

same for michael jordan, they aren't a part of the players associations.

You don't understand - Bonds is usually represented by a fictional name in the career leaderboards - this time, they decided not to even bother so you have Aaron, Ruth, and McGwire being the career leaders in various stats rather than "Joe Young" or some other fictional character.

You don't understand - Bonds is usually represented by a fictional name in the career leaderboards - this time, they decided not to even bother so you have Aaron, Ruth, and McGwire being the career leaders in various stats rather than "Joe Young" or some other fictional character.

Actually, I thought 2K hasn't had Bonds on the career leaders (Or is that The Show?...honestly can't remember) fictional or otherwise. In the game, yes...just not in the record books.

Well, the career records seldom were referenced in previous 2K baseball games.

MLB 2K9 now has recognition anytime a player breaks a record of some sort, in game and in the league news.

MLB 2K9 now has recognition anytime a player breaks a record of some sort, in game and in the league news.

Does this mean I can get Arod to break the HR record and people will boo him mercilessly like they did with Bonds? Cool feature if so.

Anyway, another issue I saw in the demo is in the full game:

In the demo, occasionally a runner would be safe on a bunt because the first baseman wasn't on first. I chalked this up to it being a bang-bang play, but the first baseman not being on first on routine plays?

I don't care how bad a 1B is - they won't casually forget to be on first five times in a 12 inning game, much less twice.

That sort of thing is easily patched though.

yeah i noticed that as well. Too many runners called safe that are out. It's bizarre. I noticed there is a button to block homeplate though. You actually have to try to block it at home.
