Re: Gamespot give MLB 2k9 a 4.5
That's just not fair. The game has problems, I agree. But it is not a 4.5.
After further reading.. it's clear the person who reviewed this title is unfamiliar with videogame baseball, or playing the sport the right way.
Who complains about having the shake off a catcher? Problems throwing out baserunners? Maybe he should have tried quick throws.Last edited by brendanrfoley; 03-06-2009, 10:47 PM. -

I'd like to thank my mother for teaching me to read as a child. Not only did the roadrunner comment regarding the dust clouds supply with my daily dose of laughter, but this review along with the community's comments have saved me $60. God bless you Mom. Cheers.Chalepa Ta Kala.....Comment

Re: Gamespot give MLB 2k9 a 4.5
That review if you read it just doesn't hold anything back man. There is some seriously funny stuff in there. I'm sorry Brendan. I know people want to like this game. I really wanted to, but I have to say I agree with this review. This game is terrible. The only thing it has going for it is the smooth online. I could see this game becoming like allpro football and having a cult following because it is so bad it's good sort of thing. But that's about it.Last edited by kGinGreen; 03-06-2009, 10:48 PM.Comment

Re: Gamespot give MLB 2k9 a 4.5
I don't understand their review. They claim that it is too easy to hit home runs on all difficulties. They say they hit 7 home runs with a-rod in 4 games, yet I have played 5 games on legend and have hit zero home runs. I just don't think they are being completely honest.Comment

while i dont agree with a lot of this stuff, the game does seem to forget stats. i stole a base with a player and it didnt credit him with it.Comment

Re: Gamespot give MLB 2k9 a 4.5
Oh common! The Show '09 is NOT a 9.5 and 2K9 is not a 4.5.
I owned 2K9 for 360 and the game is a 7 and with a patch fixing a few things the game jumps to at least an 8.5.
Anyways, have you seen the pitching in the Show? It looks horrible, as every pitcher has the same motion to home, same leg kick (delayed), generic player models. I just don't like the feel of this game and I played over 100 games in the Show '08. '09 doesn't look that much different and I won't play it until '10 when the new player models supposedly are in.
Damn 2k, please patch this thing up asap and give your supporters what they deserve.Comment

Re: Gamespot give MLB 2k9 a 4.5
Eh, whatever Gamespot. I remember them giving Triple Play 99 a 4.5 as well, back when they used 5 star scale. They even went so far as to re-write the review, because of all the outpouring of sickness from fans and critics alike. Sometimes they have no clue how to rate a sports game as if they don't really understand what sports is.Comment

Re: Gamespot give MLB 2k9 a 4.5
Um, I will say a 4.5 is pretty harsh. lol I personally think that IGN.com reviews and the scores they give them are more correct than gamespot. I have played both, but the one thing i find really funny is how The Show is kinda rubbing it in to 2K sports saying that their game is..."THE MOST REALISTIC BASEBALL GAME EVER", its like they know that 2K9 has nothing on them.
The only thing i feel that 2K9 needs to fix is yes, the CPU aggressiveness and maybe a few different squirks in the gameplay. I am quite pleased with the presentation, just i feel that the gameplay suffered because of the presentation.Comment

Re: Gamespot give MLB 2k9 a 4.5
lmao...
"Scientists have long pondered the existence of other universes where the physics are totally different than they are here. In these strange dimensions, up would be down, fast would be slow, and Major League Baseball 2K9 would be a realistic depiction of the national pastime game."
I'm sorry...but this might be the funniest intro to a review I've ever read.
As for the review itself, it's actually not that far off (I'm talking write-up, not score). Once you weed through the reviewers obvious frustration, that is...lol
I wouldn't go as far as 4.5, but if you take away the reviewer's disgust, you probably have a score of 6...lol. I've personally got this game somewhere between 6 and 7, depending on what day
.
Oh well. Whatever your opinion of the quality of the review, it was a very funny read

No surprise you would agree with it. While the reviewer definitely makes some valid points, some of them are bordering on absurd.lmao...

- Calling off catchers is time consuming??? While the catchers definitely have HORRID pitch calling, it certainly is NOT difficult to call your own game and you can even turn off the catcher signs if you don't like them.
- Hitting is easy on all levels? Try zone hitting. It's the COMPLETE OPPOSITE.
- Infield Fielding controls are difficult? I've thrown away ONE ball in 7 games. ONE! He didn't even mention the REAL problem of first basemen stepping off the base.
- He somehow managed to find something wrong with the online play, even though almost EVERYONE is saying it's great and seamless.
- He's insulting the play-by-play even though most people are saying it's better than the Show's.
- Complaining about the sound track - are you kidding? They have custom music for a reason.
- He insults everything else yet doesn't mention the REAL glaring problems of hitter aggression, big arcade-like yellow circles, and first basemen stepping off bag.
Honestly, this game has GLARING issues. Funny how the reviewer didn't mention ANY of them. The fact that you thought his review was accurate is a joke dude, no offense.Comment
