How the hell do you score post patch?

    (Im talking off-line)

Seriously, I'm playing on all-star, I've had games where I completely dominated and I can't score, even scrub goalies rob me blind. Miraculous diving saves on one timers and unbeatable gloves. My powerplay used to be in the 20% range, but now I can't score, I went 0-9 my last game, shut out 3 in a row now. Seriously, the post patch goalies are killing this game for me. I haven't come close to seeing a rebound goal either. By the way, great goal variety by the computer, but the computers goal scoring techniques don't seem to work for me.

I'm definitely caught in-between levels, pro is too easy, all star is just right for gameplay....the goalies are just too damn unbeatable.

Not that scoring is impossible but I agree, even scrub goalies become Broduer on all-star. At the last roster update i started a new dynasty and when the computer wants to win, it does. There appears to be no rhyme or reason. Basically if i go on a hot streak of 3 or 4 games in a row the computer decides its time for me to lose. Doesnt matter who the team is they destroy me. My team goes 18-9-0-1 and a 10-14-0-2 team comes in a rings me up for 6 goals in 1st period. Also the computers poke checking, checking and holding is crazy. Doesnt matter where i skate in from, poke check. Try a quick dish from behind the net held, poke check or stick lift...every time. Not to mention freaking penalties are insane after the last patch...you cant even bump a guy who doesnt have the puck or else its interference...also cant jam goals in anymore, which i know was in the patch notes....but its dumb that its removed.

Re: How the hell do you score post patch?

I've been playing on All-Star and played a complete 82 game season and am now in the play-offs. During the course of my season the game has been patched twice. I've found that the games vary and I would go on runs where I could score almost too easily it seemed and then go on streaks where I couldn't buy a goal. I wonder if it has something to with the "hot" and "cold" ratings you get as you go through a season. Maybe when you're "cold" it's almost impossible to get a goal.

I had one of the most frustrating experiences in my 4th play-off game, earlier this week. The game was tied 2 - 2 and went into OT. I'm the Bruins (8th seed) playing the Rangers (1st seed). I got both of my goals in the 1st period and then gave up the goal that tied the game with a minute left in the 3rd. I was already getting frustrated I was shut out for 2 periods. I then had to play 3 OT periods before I shut the game off out of pure anger (and that I didn't have time to finish). I went through 3 complete OT periods without getting a goal. I had many PP chances, I was mixing up my shots, etc. I ended up with about 55 shots on goal, last I checked, and these were all quality shots. It was like the game had decided there's no way I should go up 3 games to 1 against the top seed or something, so it wasn't going to let me win.

I know it happens IRL, but some of the saves were just ridiculous. Then, of course, the shots that weren't saved hit the post. So, I went 5 shut-out periods and shut the damn thing off.

I guess my point is, it seems the goalies can become completely impossible to beat on All-Star, but it was happening to me pre-patch, too. Then, I'll have games where they seem easy enough to beat. As someone said, Pro is too easy (you can dominate time of possession) and All-Star is just right, except for the goalies.

Next game, Bruins/Rangers, I won 4-1. Scored 4 goals on 17 shots. It's really weird how it's like that for me.

Actually not weird...happens to me all the time. I'll go against the ducks and they'll score 6 on my net minder in the first period....I'll shut the game off, come back later and restart and I'll shut them out....games a little too inconsistent. I'm using default sliders on all-star. Not sure i'd say all-star is just right except goalies... Defenders are freaking crazy shot blockers and poke checkers. Lets not even mention if they pull the goalie. It might as well be 5 on 1. Cant move the puck, cant get out of the zone...hell even in real hockey empty netters happen all the time...i have yet to get one in all-star.

So, you'd rather have every game be the same? The cpu is tough on me too, but I love the randomness in sports games. NHL 08's "sales pitch" was something like "every game is different." Also, empty netters do not happen "all the time" in real hockey. I find the difficulty frustrating sometimes, but I don't jump to extremes when things don't go my way. (In observation. When I'm playing I curse at the tv as I kick furniture about.)

uh, every game should be different because of gameplay mechanics, not because the CPU pre-decides which games you should win or lose!

part of the problem is a lot of people seem to have this idea that "if i play well, I should win every time" and if you are a hockey fan, you should know...thats not exactly the case in real life. I've seen countless games where a team outplays the other and loses b/c they cant score and give up a few cheapies. So when people play well and lose, they feel like its some "conspiracy" or the game is "cheating".

Yup. As the saying goes, "That's why they play the games". The "better" team doesn't always win. A great goaltending performance can steal a game for a team that doesn't have as much talent in front of the goalie.

I'm just bumping the last two posts. In hockey more than any other sport (IMO), you can outplay the other team and still lose. In Dominek Hasek's prime in Buffalo, he was the team. They almost always were outplayed, but he wouldn't let anything in.

Yup. No matter how many shots you take or how many quality chances you get, you still have to get it by the goalie. Giguere in 2003 is another prime example. The Ducks averaged barely 2 goals per game in that postseason and they came within one game of winning the Stanley Cup. An unhittable pitcher in baseball may be just as valuable. I don't think the Yankees would have won 4 World Series in 5 years without Mariano Rivera closing games for them.

It's about time someone else complained about the inability to score/unbeatable goalies post patch. I've lost count but I haven't scored a goal in around 12-18 games and I've hit the post more time than I care to remember. Like I've said before, post patch the game is more fun but not being able to score takes all of that away. I guess it's time to start playing with the sliders.

Life is a sport, so play hard!

It's funny that so many people are having MORE trouble scoring post patch. I have seen my scoring increase as well as finding it more difficult to keep the CPU from scoring. It is, however, harder to get through the neutral zone (IMO) due to the AI being tightened on puck awareness.

i'm not suggesting the team with the most shots should win. theres a difference between the CPU being outplayed and winning and the CPU being outplayed and winning *by cheating*. see the difference?

I'm not even suggesting the CPU does cheat, I play online only. but it's worth noting how the CPU wins when outplayed.
