    Worst gaming community ever

2k sports has a serious job on its hands, because lord knows I wouldn't want to be tasked with creating a game these rats couldn't infiltrate.

Of all my years of gaming, I have never seen such a consistently pathetic group of gamers as those playing 2k9 on live. If you don't believe me, play a ranked match, and see how every single player pulls the same bull every game. You can't advance a runner to second without getting a pickoff. Worse yet, the system to catch these guys doesn't work, so they do it all day most games with no penalty. Not to mention all the other shenanigans.

Worse yet is that the custom lobby is dead. The biggest problem with this game isn't the glitches in gameply, its the lack of any community to push past them.

Look at APF. It had very serious glitches that could be easily exploited. 2k patched some and the rest were handled by a generally honest community. You can find decent lobby games for that game still. This game just came out and already you can't find a sim game to save your life.

How have you all handled this? Is league play or AI the only way to go?

VC said they're catering the game towards the casual, pick-up-and-play gamer. Looks like they got exactly what they hoped for.

Yea I played ONE game on on-line Sunday, and it was my worst experience (even over Madden) w/ a sports video gm.

My opponent scored 13 runs on me, 12 were from HRs, and when Cole Hamels got tired he brought in Brett Myers.

Whenever I got a runner on he was pitching it to so fast I couldn't even get a one step lead.

It was just a pathetic show of baseball, and the only reason I could see playing on-line is to unlock stupid cards since I am an achievement whore.

I agree, those who try and play a fair game in a ranked match are going to face those who want to win at all cost. This is nothing new and sure isnt isolated to MLB 2k9 (Madden, cough).

The main issue with the new lobby system 2k has for its onlline community is the match up itself. I would never play someone in ALL Pro who has a feedback of under 80 (myself 93% pos.). That alone gives you a good idea of the type of opponent you are going to face. This no peek approach is rediculous and patch or no patch will not fix the problem of playing fair.

Custom matches seem to be the best way to try and get a decent game but it can take ahwile to get one. I post in my sig that I'm using custom sliders, balls and strikes and only sim players....and it seems to work ok...

I recently joined a league with some other SIM gamers and so far the experience has been onpar with my old ALL Pro groups I used to play....

I tried to post a thread on SIM players for this title but only one response has been made....Feel free to look me up online should you want a str8 up game of baseball...

Well, if it wasn't so insanely easy to pickoff runners then it wouldn't be a problem. People are going to use exploits until they are fixed. Online players do this in every game that has exploits (such as call of duty, battlefield 2, etc.)

Don't get be wrong: I'm not defending people who exploit a problem like this, but you can't really blame the players. It's 2K's fault for leaving the problem in the game. This problem is so obvious that I find it absolutely amazing that it didn't come up in their testing....they need to fix it ASAP.

You can beat a cheeser who keeps trying to pick off by pausing the game real quick when he tries to do it. It will make the game go back to the batting view.

This is the mentality I disagree with. We should expect some base level of respect for the game from the people who play it. There are glitches in every game, as many have said. But that doesn't mean we should expect, accept, and condone this base exploitation to the point where it doesn't even become a game.

I'm not talking about calling a money play in Madden, whatever, that is somewhat exploitative, but at least they are playing in the spirit of the game. That play is real, and even if unbalanced, it is football. Madden 09 had guys who pushed the limits or even outright glitched, but it wasn't this mindless and there weren't as many of them. You could get a decent game fairly regularly. This is isn't baseball. It starts with the pickoff glitch, but it also exists in the way players baserun, the way they pitch, and the way they do every aspect of game management, including how they inevitably lag the game out when it finally becomes clear they won't win.

What gets me is how worthless and pointless this game (and their lives) become when playing games this way. Who wants to sit online for hours doing the pickoff animation over and over again till you finally get the guy? I'm in my 20's, so I'm still fairly young and routinely defend when people talk about video games as a leech on today's youth. But the way the vast majority of people play this game (and others to a lesser extent) they reduce it to mindless, thoughtless, strategy-less, skill-less competition. What is it they get out of this? A few points on the ranking ladder? Or even worse for the custom games I've had where this has still happened, they don't even get that.

I acknowledge 2k should give us the best chance possible for having a sim game by closing holes, ect. but we should still expect that some, even a sizable minority, of those who buy these games actually want to replicate the sport it depicts.

I personally have given up on playing this till problems like this get fixed, and I agree that it is lame for people to exploit this, but honestly kind of hope they exploit it like crazy so that more people will complain which will hopefully make 2K want to fix it faster

I'm bothered by this just as much as you are, but the difference with me is I'm directing my frustration to where it really belongs: I'm mad at 2K for letting this crap into the game in the first place! The problem should've never made it to the final game. 2K is the one to really blame.

Yes, there may be glitches in every game, but this is not just a glitch. It's a MAJOR gameplay flaw. There's a big difference. This is the sort of thing that should never make it into a retail game if proper testing is conducted beforehand.

Yes, but the problem is that it's nowhere close to being like real baseball right now in terms of stealing and pickoff moves. 2K needs to fix it before people should be expected to take it completely seriously. Again, the root problem is with the game itself....people exploiting the problem is just a secondary problem that wouldn't even exist if the game played properly to begin with.

You should complain to 2K directly and hopefully they will fix it. Until then, there's not much that can really be done about it, unfortunately.

lets just say i know more then the average poster about whats being patched. ALl i can say is that, some of the major issues are being addressed.

The pick off at 2nd pisses me off just as much as the next person. lol

Anyways, i had some guy do nothing but talk crap the whole game. I finally said, dude you complain like a little girl gratz on the win and i quit. I dont mind playing good players, but when you cry about everything, i rather waste it play the game and enjoy it.

Any idea when we'll be able to know more about what exactly is going to be in the patch? Thanks man.

Yeah I only play online with friends of mine over XBL. For the most part we try to maintain the integrity of the game. Its a lot of fun online if you know the person, and can lay down some house rules, but when your playing against random's this game is sad!!
