    Strange Season Goals

I have gotten a pretty strange season goal...it is either the easiest one ever...or I am being set up.

I was able to snag singletary as my dc last off-season. The owner wants me to retain him as our coach. Since I have no control on a coach leaving or not (unless I fire him...which I dont plan to do)...what is the situation with this one?

What would make him want to leave...and what can do I to keep him?

I've never seen a coach leave without being fired... Almost every year one of my goals is to retain Rex Ryan, and he's never left to accept another job, which isn't very realistic, but what can you do? Unless a coach randomly decides to retire, but that's never happened to me either.

Coaches will decide to leave on their own sometimes either for a winning team, or to promote their self interests. It all depends on their personality.

Last year after losing to the Colts in the playoffs again, my Off. Line Coach just quit. He was my best coach.

Well...this season has started out pretty well. I am 5-0 (beat the dreaded Steelers and Ravens). My defense is ranked number 12 as opposed to 27th last season so I hope he is happy enough to stay. I got real lucky with my coaching changes and I think I have put together a great staff...would hate to lose any of them (except my gm...who is awful)

Coaches quit; it happens. In my full seasons, Jon Gruden quits a team everytime he doesn't win a Superbowl. What a baby! He usually coaches 4-5 teams in a 15 year career. I've noticed trainers quit at a much higher frequency than other coaches.

Another thing I noticed recently is when they do the off-season recap of coaching moves, you can see either the new team logo behind their headshot or an NFL logo if no one signed them after they left. The team logo behind their mugshot is kinda faint on the XBox360 so it took me a few dozen times to notice it. It's nice so you know which team to hold a grudge against for signing your coaches away from you.

Basicly it wants you to do well in a season so the coach won't lwant to leave, and it also don't want you to fire him.

Wonder if he....or any of the others quit...can we try to sign them again in the off season like we do with our players? I dont think I would do that...but maybe if we gave up a little control we could get them back. I was fortunate and didnt have to give up anything to get the guys I wanted.

I remember once I had a horrible preseason so I made my preseason promise to win 3 games as I expected a horrible season. The owner came back to me with a goal to win 3 of the first 4 which I thought was just dumb.

I learned a good lesson about those goals in the pre-season. I dont understand why the gm will bring in veterans for training camp who have lower potentials then the players you already have. I had Carlos Hall brought in by my gm this year. I looked and his potentail was 76...I didnt cut him right away because I was just looking at all of the players and making sure I had all of the data correct.

I forogt about him because I was concerned about trying to reveal my rookies info. Next thing I know my pre-season goals come up and I am supposed to increase Hall's play knowledge to 25%. I wasnt even going to keep the guy so I went ahead and cut him and got a 4 point drop in my approval.

From now on...the first thing I am going to do after training camp opens...I am going to go through and cut all of those veterans who dont have a snowballs chance in hell of making the team.

I've noticed that a few of the better assistants I've had will leave once they reach 99 OVR. It sucked for my Chiefs franchise, because Tim Krumrie was an absolute beast of a DL coach who helped make Glenn Dorsey DROTY even though we lost +10 games. It probably has a lot to do with their personalities.

I made it through the year and no one left...however the owner wanted me to fire the stc...but his problems were partially my fault. I drafted a rookie kicker and cut my veteran...the rookie couldnt make field goals...so I now cut him and signed a vet. I have great returners (cribbs) so I think that will help.

I think once a playerm like Krumrie, reaches his max or near it as a position coach the game kicks him into wanting to leave for a better position. If you promote him to DC, he'll be a lot more likely to stick around.

Well...Singletary stayed...but my wide receiver coach left to become qb coach somewhere else...I dont blame the wr coach for leaving...he was a 99...but I didnt want to lose my qb coach. I have the goal of keeping singletary again...

I promoted him to DC, and cut Gunther Cunningham. My defense was greatly improved in the second year. I won 4 games the first year, and I'm 17-1 about ready to play in the superbowl in year two. However, my defensive line is no where near where it was with Krumrie coaching them, but the rest of the defense is better overall.

I didn't want Gunther, and didn't want to give up any decision making for an assistant so I promoted within. It's working well, I just hope I can hang on to the coaches I have.
