Anyone who doesn't like the prospect of 9-player gang tackle is crazy

I saw the 6-player gang-tackle in the video and I loved it. 4 guys trying to tackle the ball carrier with another opposing player in the back trying to push the whole pack of them forward is pure football heaven.

The fact that the system can support up to NINE players involved in something like that is pretty much football nirvana for me.

I feel the need to give props for that. I criticize EA a lot - but that's one thing I gotta give props for.

I'd love to see that sort of pileup/gridlock on a 4th and 1 play and then calling up a replay after the bodies are pulled off to see if the ball carrier crossed the 1st down marker or not.

That definitely makes for some more excitement. I wonder how Collinsworth will describe those pileups? lol

I was kinda confused when I heard 9 player gang tackles...I was thinking "Who am I tackling that I need 9 people? The Fridge?!" But then I thought about others on offense trying to push the pile included in the 9..and it is pretty exciting.

Carolina Panthers - NC State Wolfpack - Charlotte Hornets - Brisbane Roar FC - VfB Stuttgart

I hope that's interchangeable - like any combination of 8 players from either team AND the ball carrier.

          I mean we're talking about massive tug-of-wars. (or push-of-wars?)

They should use the total weight of the players involved to determine which way the tackle goes lol.

9 players is cool, but I hope that the rest of the players don't just sit and stare.

To me this is where the game will surpass 2k. They still have some work to do on the OL vs DL, but it should be further along than CD.

I don't know if I've ever seen a 9 player tackle in real life...hope it doesn't happen too often. Even at the goal line, I usually only see 3 or 4 guys making the tackle (at most). Sounds more like something for the back of the box or for a press release.

when i watched the video, the gang tackling look more like a rugby scrum, like a mo cap session more than anything. You can 20 gang tackles but when the guys approach and just grab on and start a line dance of chopping feet drills it doesn't matter. The tackles doesn't look organic and their is no anticipatory gather to hit someone its just a grab as if its an extention of suction blocking. So I could care less about gang tackling when their is no violence involved.

Willie Parkers has the ball and it looks like he has a winning lotto ticket and they are all trying to take it from him instead of deliver a hit to bring him down.

its going to be offense and defense combined...

Well it could be on the goalline 3-4 defenders trying to stop the play and 3-5 offensive players pushing the pile?

Hopefully this improves the play at the goalline.

I've seen several Eagles games just this past last year with goal-line stops and there's linebackers, ends and tackles piled up all over the line of scrimmage trying to smack down the ball carrier.

When you get in 3rd and goal or 4th and goal situations with running teams, it does happen a lot - especially with QB sneaks.

I expect to see lots of these "pileups" on QB sneaks and those up-the-gut runs, when, of course, the defense is preparing for it .

That's what I was going to say - how often do you see instances where there are 5 or more people involved in a tackle? If there are true weight shifts between the offensive/defensive players engaged then it might be cool to see, but if it's that tiny pitter-pat steps that display in the trailer then it doesn't seem that useful. Seems like it'd be far more practical to concentrate on appropriately rendering weight/momentum 2-3 man tackles than trying to get half the players on the field involved in a single tackle. And I'd say even more important to have players that aren't the ball carrier interact appropriately. That's a big reason why the game's movement looks so unnatural imo
