This is all the Player Roles from Madden 07 on PS2/XBOX. This was SO AMAZING! I would also like to seem them expand this list something like Hidden Gem (a player you find deep in the draft and he ends up becoming a playmaker for you) Mr. Irrelevant (for the 256 player in the Draft every year - make him disruptive or something) I don't know about you guys - but I LOVED this stuff! Now voice your opinion. :woot::woot::woot::woot::woot::woot::woot:

These were pretty awesome; precursors to the "less-than, well, you know" weapons from 08 and 09..

This was in 07 on last gen? I need to give this a try, which was the best franchise mode on last gen? 05? 07?

This type of stuff needs to stay in MMO's. I can understand the icons to identify certain players, but they shouldn't get attribute boosts in certain situations. It seems too similar to World of Warcraft and buffs to me.

I honestly can't go back and play last gen Maddens, can't stand Maddens commentary plus a lot of the stuff is so well outdated....I popped in Madden 07 and could not even finish one full game...

Those were so much better than weapons b/c 1. They actually worked. and 2. They would change based on the performance of player so if my RB fumb alot his carry rating would drop and he got the fumb prone role and he had to to meet certain criteria to get it removed. This was also the madden where they had an indepth scouting report for every player on all rosters. Man i wish these could make it into Franchise mode!

Im like this too, i cant really play Madden 09 or 08 tho either. I think for me its just that i have to play it on a SD 32' tv instead of the 55' HDTV i play the 360 on.

Id probably go back to old gen maddens if i had a PS3 with backwards compatibility.

Damn how I wish any Old madden could be compatible with the 360.

I really like these a lot... MUCH better than the "weapons"... although i think they need to make sure there are no icons IN GAME if they were to put these back in... AND i say no ratings boosts at all... i understand (and like) the value boosts though.. kind of gives guys with more physical talent a bit more value and stuff... could be neat...

I agree...Id love to see them back in, at least for Madden 2011.

I just hope its not that easy to increase ratings beyond a certain point. I really dont want to see a ton of NFL Icons.

I'm on board for this too. it add's another element of strategy. this was one of my favorite features of the past. i loved trying to fill certain positions with aging mentors even if they weren't starters to help give a boost to up-and-comers.

please bring this back!

if they allow more than 2 roles then that would be good. i hated when my starting QB was a "fan favorite" and "team captain" although he would have be an icon or player maker...

Eh? I am sorry but having Mentors (Seasoned Vets) in a team IRL - improve the younger guys. Someone who fumbles alot in a season well why SHOULDNT his stats drop? A fan fav. is Chris Cooley - when there was Trade Talks he blogged about it and said he DID NOT want to play anywhere BUT Washington - so of course if he was on the trading block problems would occur...kinda like the role says. A 1st round pick riding the pine? Of course he wants to start by year 3. All of these I feel fit into the game perfectly

I really liked those roles too. It was interesting to see them change at the end of a season too.

I did not like the "underacheiver" one though. If the 32nd pick of the draft is an 81, that is not really an underachiever. There is no reason why the 32nd pick of a draft, rated 81, should be labelled an underacheiver when the 33rd, rated possibly far lower, is not.

Yea I really want these back it actually made drafting and fa signing interesting finding that one player to compliment another. And had an actual meaning to have a Ray Lewis ,because he gave his teammates a boost.

Those are some big freakin' TVs! But I know you meant inch (")...but seriously, yes I think that the roles should make it back in the game...it was nice to have your veteran players with the Mentor role, because that is really what happens in the NFL, and it helped out with rookie performance.

Yea it wasn't gimmicky b/c it wasn't easy to get the icons anyway, b/c people lost or gain them b/c of normal progression. For example one of the Roles that gave a sig boost was Return Specialist but there was only two in the game Devin Hester and Dante Hall. And the cpu didn't expliot the roles like it often does many features.

Would love to see it, BUT (large caveat here): they have to actually have a REAL/TANGIBLE impact on the field or off the field (depending on the role).

Like the other changes in Madden this year. I want to see/feel the difference.

If a guy fumbles a lot it's because his ratings allow him to fumble that much already. By lowering his carry rating he will start to fumble more. If you have performance based progression, and performance base regression you will end up with a league in 10 years filled with 99 ovr players, and 60 ovr players.

When you have roles like this that add and subtract attributes it seems more like an MMO than a sports game to me. In real life I don't see Ray Lewis increasing the Awareness of his defense just by being on the field. I don't see Josh Cribbs or Devin Hester making their special teams block better. Are they coaching them on blocking technique?

You guys say all the time that you don't want gimmicks or stupid features. All this is is a stupid feature or gimmick akin to Mascot Mashup.

I agree that having a low carry rating and fumbilng shouldn't lower your carry. However I can see it lowering your value as described in the first part of the text about the icon. Some parts of these seem to make sense, especially the value parts, the expectations to start, and the ability to mentor younger players.
