ABC - Anyone But Carolina!
I suppose my biggest question regarding the Tar Heels coming into the season is: with Hakeem Nicks, Brooks Foster, and Brandon Tate all gone, will T.J. Yates have anyone to throw the ball to? Who should I keep my eyes on? -
Re: Butch's Brood - UNC Tar Heel Thread
That's the million dollar question.
The WR's were the offense last season. That's why I'm not like a lot of experts who have UNC in the top 3 in the ACC. Those guys are going to have to be replaced & the offense as a whole needs to take some huge leaps in order to maintain last season's level.
Not to mention UNC got a lot of scores off turnovers. & the most of the main playmakers on D have left as well.
Potential Yates targets: Dwight Jones, Kenton Thorton, Greg Little (if he stays @ WR), Jheranie Boyd, Todd Harrelson.
Thorton & Little have the most experience. Jones & Boyd are considered future stars.
Butch Davis on the wideouts @ spring practice: "We’re a long ways away. Thank God we don’t play for four months....."

Heels pick up their 2nd commit for 2010. Ty Linton, LB from Charlotte. Listed as 1* by scout. But he had a nice list of offers, including W.Va, Wisc, Ill, Louisville etc.

Nice addition to the class. Hopefully a couple more OL will be added, you can never have enough of them.
I'm really looking forward to this season. If the WRs can step up I think the Heels can take another step forward.Comment

It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.Comment

Re: Butch's Brood - UNC Tar Heel Thread
D was a disappointment to me. Last year, they gave up too many yards. They were great @ getting turnovers & that's what saved them. But they couldn't get a 3rd down stop to save their lives the last half of the year.
2 more schollys opened up. RB Jerrell Rhodes is headed to Hargrave & JUCO TE Prizell Brown didn't get admitted.-August 17, 1960Originally posted by VP Richard M. DT Darrius Massenburg is going to get a medical hardship, ending his career. He's from my local area, so I'm disappointed.
BTW, last week I met Kentwan Balmer @ a local Chinese buffet. Real nice guy. I told him I looked forward to him getting on the field more this year for the Niners. Told him to tell Singletary to play him more. He said look for him on ESPN this season. Its amazing looking @ a guy a 10lbs heavier than me, but 5 inches taller & all muscle. Mountain of a man.-August 17, 1960Originally posted by VP Richard M. I don't remember hearing that Steve Streater died, June 19th. When I was 10-11 yr old, I thought he had one of the coolest names. It was so tragic when he got injured.
For those that don't remember him, he played w/Lawrence Taylor on Carolina's last ACC championship team.

Not related to this year, but it looks like the Heels will open the season against LSU in Atlanta next year. Not a done deal yet, but it looks like it'll happen.
Should be interesting and a good gauge of how far the program has come.Comment

I'd heard. If the recruiting rankings have been correct, that UNC team should have top 10-15 potential. But unless I see some vast improvement in the running game & the defense this season, LSU should still be a heavy favorite.-August 17, 1960Originally posted by VP Richard M. Re: Butch's Brood - UNC Tar Heel Thread
Agreed, it'll be a heck of a challenge for UNC but if there's been a year in recent memory to take a game like that, next year is probably it. Not trying to look past this season, but there's only 10 seniors on scholarship so it should be a pretty experienced team.
But I'm still very excited about this year's team and hopefully seeing the same improvements you're hoping for. I'm hopeful that Draughn is the answer at RB we've been hoping for and that the o-line comes together. Replacing every receiver won't be easy either.
I'm optimistic about the defense, there's a lot of talent and speed out there but they've got to be more consistent shutting teams down. And please get rid of that prevent that cost a couple Ws last season.Comment
