Madden NFL 10 Hands-On Preview (Teamxbox)

Teamxbox has posted their hands-on preview of Madden NFL 10.

"In terms of executing a play, Madden NFL 10 feels similar to last year’s game. Those who have played the last few Madden games will have no troubles jumping in and running an offense or defense. The results of these plays in Madden NFL 10, however, are often different than in its predecessor. Here’s a tip—or more like fair warning—when setting up a running play: Don’t try and run that speedster back into the pile. We learned that first hand with Willie Parker: Pittsburgh’s resident “scat” back. Willie has blinding speed and razor-sharp cuts, but he’s not the most bullish back in the NFL. Madden NFL 10’s new Pro-Tak system forces users to know the player (and that player’s role) much more intimately than in games prior; no more physics-defying 160 pounders taking on an entire front three or four."

This one is contextual though. You can't simply parse out "feeling the same" from, "in terms of executing play." It doesn't make sense for him to say the entire game feels the same when in the rest of that same paragraph he describes the game as different.

That's how I read it and experienced it. Controls are the same. Results, that is how things play out, is different from previous madden games.

That tells me that play calling is similar to Madden 09.

...and then the reviewer proceeds to spend the next few paragraphs telling us how Pro-tak has completely changed the running game.

I think that was a decent review on their part. Not bad but not good neither. But a ok reveiw.

The videos make it look different to me, but these previews sure are making it sound as though the changes don't make that big of a difference. I honestly wasn't expecting a lot, but the previews are disheartening, even to me.

"Madden NFL 10 feels similar to last year’s game."

Take this one line however you want it, to me it's nothing more then a crutch for reviewers. Most of these reviews then go on to talk about the difference tackling, the pocket or injury system make. Also i gather that these people got a very limited demo build of only Madden moments at this point and probably haven't spent enough time to form a valid opinion on game play.

To me it seems like "hey we played the demo for 30-45 minutes, lets spit out some marketing jargon that has been written down for us"

It's a little too early to say the game is or isn't improved. I'll reserve that judgment to I start seeing long game play clips and actually trying the game.

I might ask what people were expecting, something along the liens of "madden plays like a whole new game" and if that is your expectation you're not going to get it from a review off of these sites or maybe at all, because it probably is very similar to every other madden. The things that I would expect to notice aren't going to be found in a limited demo build at this point in my opinion you have to read the specifics and not the generalities. But that's just me.

seriously, if these muther****ers dont play it on all pro or all madden i dont give a flying **** what they have to say about gameplay. every reviewer has praised pro tak and presentation so i think it will be fine.

thats a shame that not even the demo can tell me how the game is gonna play. i will never bring myself to play on pro.. NEVER

That's exactly what I was expecting... to some extent at least. When I start reading it's the same old Madden, that does not bode well, not in the slightest.
